You're a saviour for making these videos. It's sad to see these beautiful old stadiums go and turning into housing estates but unfortunately it's happening with a lot of football stadiums nowadays. You're documenting of these places is very interesting. Keep up the great work!

@@FootyAdventures I was in York yesterday. I went to Bootham Crescent to see Grimsby years ago. I also went to Hull City's old ground Boothferry Park several times including once in 1980 when we went by special train before the bridge was built and they had a train station directly outside the ground. There is literally no trace of Boothferry Park left. Looks like Bootham Crescent is going the same way which for a City built on history seems completely wrong.

You know I bet this is happening with cities as well because fewer and fewer people want to have children and considering what’s been going on with the climate I don’t blame them how about a few more years of neglect on those buildings and when they crumble we can put native trees in their place That goes for every abandoned building on the planet

I was only at bootham crescent only once and sadly it was the fixture between York city and my club Lincoln City in 1990 I went that day to the ground with my brother when sadly David longhurst collapsed and died on the pitch.we didn't know what was going on but soon found out,and the match was abandoned. RIP david sadly missed ❤❤

Thanks for the video. I grew up in York and was taking to my first match in 1987. Some great memories at Bootham Crescent. Me and my mates used to stand behind the goal and sometimes try and seek in the popular stand (seated stand along the side) at half time! There was a tunnel underneath the back which is being retained I believe as part of the new housing development. Moved away from York since but managed to get a ticket for the recent play off final at the LNER. Cracking atmosphere that day in front of c7500. It a bit of a lego stadium but the fans really get behind the team. Hopefully the catalyst for City to get back in the FL where they belong.

I believe the plans to memorialise Bootham Crescent are to retain a small section of the Popular Stand, mark at least some of the centre circle in a communal area and erect a flag pole as a nod to what used to be known as the 5 minute flag. Also the streets on the new development will be given YCFC-related names.

I'm really grateful for this video! I've commentated on York's home matches since January 2019 but I've only been able to do the occasional game since moving down south in the autumn of last year.
Whenever I'm back in the vicinity of York, I always take a look at Bootham Crescent and feel nostalgic as I recall the happy memories I had there of doing a job I love everything about. I was there last month just hours before our Promotion Final game and it looks very different now compared to a month ago. Watching the video, I was moved to tears when I saw what was the pitch.
But yes to clarify what you mentioned in the video, the site will be converted into housing but street/building names will be named after club legends. Various parts of the ground will also be remembered one way or another like the centre circle and one of the stands I believe.
Keep up the great work, mate. It's great to see a TH-camr with the same passions as myself and you present each video really well!

Not much into football anymore but I’ve been loving many of these videos since I started watching, and I always like the crossovers of sorts when Rugby League is featured with a stadium share or some historic memorabilia in other locations. And I wonder if one day you’d ever consider going to places with football teams sharing a city/town with other famous clubs in other sports, like Headingley (Leeds) and Odsall (Bradford) and so on.

Attended the last league game at Bootham Crescent. 4-0 loss to Bristol Rovers.
As a gashead really pleased York have got their new stadium and hope Bristol Rovers can follow in the not too distant future as aware the minstermen were waiting a while for theirs which we can really identify with.
Shame to see a proper football stadium shut down but it was the worst football stadium I’ve visited - at least at league level. Thought I was going to get tetanus from the terracing rails if I touched them. Toilets were a gutter in a shed - very old school.
The match itself was very memorable as it was the game before what is now our less memorable automatic promotion from League 2 😂. Quality goals from Billy Bodin on the day. Rumours rippled through the terraces that Accrington were drawing, when they weren’t at all. lining us up for a crazy 92nd minute winner on the final day of the season when Accrington failed to beat Stevenage.

Rugby LEAGUE, please. It's a joint ground. York Rugby League spent miserable years as Ryedale-York, playing way out on the edge of the c.ity after their old Clarence Street ground more or less crumbled. They are in much better hands now, and York City Council finally pulled its finger out in support of both clubs. They are now a highly competitive club in the Championship (the second tier of rugby league) at the new ground. That's the men's team. York are top of the Women's Super League as I write, one of three teams (with Leeds and St. Helens) raising the women's game to new heights., as will be seen in November's world cup. This new ground is buzzing, especially with their star-studded women's side.

When the stadium was built, it was the edge of the city.

Another great old historic stadium gone, to be replaced by a non descript plastic seated construct. The only consolation for the youngsters I suppose, is what they never had they'll never miss.

It's a constant war in York between the clueless and inept Council and rapacious property developers. The "York Eye" site behind the station has been mostly derelict for years, I think the British Sugar Corporation site is still derelict too.

Only a few months ago you could get into the ground through the red turnstiles and now the turnstiles have been bolted as people caught on to people sneaking in

What qualifies as "quite warm" over there? It's been about 37-40c here in Texas, I'd probably also be wearing a quarter zip like the man you ran into!

Visited Bootham Crescent twice, once with Sunderland in the late 80's when there was very nearly a crush in the away end and once with Gateshead around 2010 ish. Great old ground. Also been to the new stadium and its plush and functional and a long way out of town. Football and clubs move on. Its not the end its just the start of something new.
