I can hear echoes of Shostie's First Piano Concerto in some of these. There is an attempt to not be disjointed in thematic development as he is in his First Piano Concerto and allow the themes to develop logically, but then "the dog runs after its tail" which only Shostie does so eloquently. Shostie and Prokofiev were the greatest composers of the 20th century!!!

I " Never Cease To Marvel " At The Delicacy And Precision " Of Shostakovich " A Brilliant Composer It Goes Without Saying " !!! From Adrian Browne 1965
Shostakovich's first prelude wasn't written in 1933. He wrote it until 1920 because we read in Fay's book that he was playing this prelude already in 1920. Probably in 1933 he catalogued it as "no.1"
In no. 19 there is a mistake bar 19-20 l.h. I do wonder if she isn't sight-reading some if the 'easier' ones. She a great pianist and pedagogue but some of the errors are rather surprising.
i know that i'm late for about two years, but drive.google.com/file/d/1eY8mDh_grGuY7BHV6AAsKFqLCQ5yWWIx/view?usp=sharing here, the entire set of these preludes

Playing has some very dubious rhythmic liberties. Makes me kind of “seasick” listening to this interpretation. Also not sure why so many notes are not played together when they should. I assume it’s on purpose, but very odd. Sometimes left hand drowns upper melodies. Not a lot of dynamic range makes performance kind of flat.
I know what you mean, seasick is a good way to describe it, it’s like being cut adrift from the rhythmic drive suddenly. I think there’s a Russian performance technique where you sometimes offset notes to highlight different layers of counterpoint. It can works great in rachmaninoff etc where you have a lot of rubato, but it doesn’t work as well for me here. But what do I know? She’s a fabulous pianist and has made her strong choices. I would also at least partly blame the audio compression for lack of dynamic range - TH-cam is terrible for it in general, but this is particularly bad. I’m sure it’ll be vastly different on CD.
the moment it ends, you hear the claps and realize it was not a studio recording. just superb!
The sneeze in the middle made me realize that 😂
Don‘t worry! It could all very well have been edited in afterwards.
Bruh you spoile it
thank you! it is great that you synchronized the score with the music. My 13-year old is learning it - very helpful!
These preludes are much more difficult than they sound
Indeed, especially because of the polyphony.
Obviously , that's Shostakovich , is a genius , were you wanting for easy music like today's music ?

the E minor reminds me quite a bit of the Fugue from that suite by Ravel, Tombeau de Couperin or however it's spelled
Le Tombeau de Couperin
It reminds of the fugue e major from TWC book 2.
A WONDERFUL performance!
Preludes that sound like memories of a stolen childhood , a hidden secret that needs to be told. A mystery that is unspoken
No 15 was used as the theme tune to a BBC television comedy series, 'Ever Decreasing Circles'.
The ending of no. 16 is the funniest thing I ever heard
A wonderful interpretation !🙂😊
I think these preludes are a satire of Chopin's, or, more broadly, the romantic style.
Shostakovich never needed to stoop to parody
@@alexandertoth2697 of course he did, just listen to his 9th symphony. Full of gags
