Scott has said that he tried to disguise his voice, but anyone who'd ever heard Pentatonix before knew in a couple of seconds who that was singing!
I think the reveal with Creep surprised a lot of the audience who had never seen Pentatonix before - since they had heard Kirstin in Total Eclipse of the Heart, they assumed that the high voice was her - but then Mitch opened his mouth and slapped the entire audience!
The Masked Singer was recent...for their beginnings you have to go way back to 2011 and the 3rd season of the Sing-off. Would recommend you watch those in order to see the growth, tho they started at a pretty high level! They have levelled up several times since...they are alien unicorns!
Between 2022 to 2023 to the Masked Singer and then what they did this past Christmas, I see and hear a whole other level of PTX. Scott with that rasp/grit, Matt the Bass fully meshing with the group, Mitch being an even better version of Mitch, Kirstin is singing at an even higher level than before and Kevin is absolutely knocking it out of the park with his musical genius. I can tell they have worked hard, they have matured into their 30s, individually they have improved and come into their own but as a group they are absolutely spectacular. 🔥 Thanks for the reaction! Agreed. Especially with Scott. Since he started working on his solo album he seems to have found a whole new level of color in his voice and I am here for it.
Yeah…the first words out of his mouth and we all knew instantly that that was Scott. The Pentaholics knew from get go.

On that great "Mitch slap" at the end of the unmasked performance of "Creep", it looked like the judges were shocked when Mitch had that part... I think they thought it was the female singer doing those high parts when they sang it masked. As with the first number, though, we Pentaholics knew exactly who was singing... Scott on his first notes, and Mitch doing what Mitch does so well. If I listen to this without watching the video, I'm definitely picking out each member's voice both on their lead vocals and when they're doing background harmonies. Been listening to them so long now that there's just no mistaking them.
I love hearing both of their performances of Creep because the second one is PTX unleashed. They don't have to try to mask their voices any longer and it is "so very special" just like the song claims.

Matt, the bass, is that other voice. Another amazing live is their 2016 Popspring performance. Ya when Scott puts that grit in his voice it is so special.
They began on a competition show for a capella singing groups called "The Sing Off" when some of them were just out of high school. It is well worth watching those episodes.
Remember, PTX doesn't do covers... They do upgrades! And that is Matt.
Matt is soulful bass
I watched this air live, and I was sooooo upset when they got kicked off in the semi-finals! But I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they did not cut off their song at the end when the credits stopped.
Something has changed in the last year or two. They're almost like "Pentatonix 2.0" now. Scott has always has some rasp in his repertoire, but he's really stepped it up. Matt has truly come into his own. Kirstin, Mitch, and KO are all performing at next-level as well. This series, along with Kiss From A Rose, and Oh Holy Night really highlight the changes. I'm loving the progress.
It was just about two years ago that Scott said they were going to take it up a level. I didn't see how that could be done, but I think they managed it.
Enjoyed the reaction, fun fact PTX is the only "group or singer" on The Masked Singer that's been allowed to perform the full song at the end, they usually cut them off halfway through. They did awesome on this.
They released this version of "Creep" as a single last summer and sang it on the European and US legs of their world tour last year, using a pre-recorded backing track. There are several fan-recorded live concert videos of it.
They just never cease to amaze me.

You should check out their tour dates tour starts one week from now. I believe I’m going to go see them in Reno on the ace of June for the fourth time.
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳They’re my favorite group!! They should have won this. If you haven’t listened to O Holy Night, you need to- it is next next next level (like this was). Everything they do is amazing (even from the very beginning of their group), so anything you choose will be 🔥👏🏻🤯. If you haven’t listened to any originals yet, Love Again, an early original, is still up in the top part of my list of favorites. Evolution of Michael Jackson is excellent. 90’s Dance Medley is a bop. Mad World will make you cry. Come Along will cheer you back up.
Honestly, they were just on the show as marketing for the concert series that was happening or about to happen while the show aired. They had no intention of winning (even if they deserved hit). But I'm glad I have new faves from them because of it.
They never disappoint. Their live videos are unlikely to get blocked unlike the studio versions

I thought it was cute that Mitch's proud papa, Mike, let the cat out of the bag the day before their first performance (he took the post down pretty quickly, though), so I already knew PTX would be perf. The first two notes out of Scott's mouth totally confirmed te California Rolls' identity.
Didn't PTX tell the show ahead of time they had tour dates & couldn't stay the whole time, that they would withdraw at a certain point regardless of standing? They didn't care about winning, just went on it to get exposure in a different audience since it's not a cappella & they wanted to show how much more they could do if all 5 were singing & not needing to create the music the whole time. That's why everyone seems so impressed yet they didn't go to the end. In this instance the challenge plus exposure of showing their skill & creativity on covers was worth way more than whatever the 1st place prize was. That's what someone that delved into all the bts commented, & it does make sense. They always seem to be working on trying new things to keep themselves from getting metaphorically boxed in, just like actors don't want to be typecast, because it can lead to boredom or stagnant careers.

How did they not get 1st place
you might want to make sure your voice is louder than the music or video playing because i can't hear what your saying in your comments OR you can type in what your saying so its clear. just a suggestion as obviously you dont have to do any of that. just remember you understand what your saying because you said it. i understood all the wows but thats it.

so, they finished in 3rd place, because that show is a sad excuse for a musical competition show. I never watch it, and only saw #PTX on it because I saw people posting about them being on the show.
