In the first turn, I think it's a better idea to play a march+1 in Sea of Dorne, to dissuade Baratheon from trying anything. It's true that you can just use the Red Viper and destroy his ships, but that means that you have used the Red Viper. Always Consolidate Power* in Sea of Dorne on the first turn, maybe also on the second, depending on the mustering situation. There should always be a ship in the Sea of Dorne, and preferably more (unless you happen to control Shipbreaker bay, see below). Baratheon will often try to take Storms End, and Tyrell might want to take the Boneway from the Reach. Speaking of the Tyrells, they will very take every opportunity to take Starfall off of your hands. Having sizeable support from Yronwood should dissuade them. I agree that the best way to get to 7 castles is to take someone else's home base whether that's Dragonstone or Highgarden. Tyrell can be taken most easily if it's the early game and they have not been able to muster yet. Baratheon can be taken most easily if the Web of Lies card has been played during the Westeros phase. This is because he won't be able to support his ships from the narrow sea, Dragonstone port, or Blackwater Bay, and no support means that Salladhor Saan cannot make your ships useless. This means, either wait until Salladhor Saan is discarded or for the Web of Lies if you want to attack Shipbreaker bay. Martell's cards are very nice. Nymeria Sand's ability serves a double function as Sword and Fortification icon, and might as well have those icon's printed on it. Areo Hotah is a bit awkward, with his power of 3 and Fortification. A sword would have been better. Taking about swords, Martells are not in great need of them. Darkstar, Obara, Oberyn, and Nymeria* all have swords. Doran Looks very powerful, but I find him very situational, he's the most useful if you are second in an influence track, and you then attack the player who's first and take away their dominance token. Arianne Martell is a good counter to Loras Tyrell (essentially negating his ability), and she is good for not allowing your opponents to get into your areas. I tend to save Darkstar/Obara for the 7th card, which is discarded because it is the one that is most easily replaced. In terms of starting location, Dorne is very cramped. This makes it difficult to spread out your units. There is only one Stronghold in your starting area, which makes mustering a bit less satisfying. Dorne has way more barrels than crowns, and as a result, supply won't be a problem, but good locations for consolidating power (like Stark's Castle Black and Karhold) can't really be found. Prince's pass and the Boneway could work, but only if Tyrell is not playing Raid from the Dornish Marches. Instead, you can consolidate power in Salt Shore and port of Sunspear.
You have a really good point regarding taking Tyrell. If there's no bidding or mustering you can easily out muster them using your consolidate power! I typically try to be friends so I have a spot to consolidate power and hope Baratheon gets taken down a notch!
Good review, pretty much all said nice, would like to add there is no point in friending tyrell, if you muster turn 1 which you should and you dont draw mustering card, you can run him over in turn 2 at sea and establish control and pressure for some time for sure, also it will be hard to get rid of you and if no clash or mustering again you can take his inner sea too, at that point he is well screwed
@@born7878 Ya... I like to hope that poor Tyrell gets a clash & mustering otherwise they end up like my last Tyrell game. Round like 6 without a bidding. It was, so boring!
If you have Starfall and turn two mustering comes up, you missed your biggest opportunity ever by not mustering a ship into WSS. This hinders Tyrell and is easy to support from ESS

Should have 5/6 done and finishing Greyjoy sometime this week. Then I'll circle back to cover house cards. Have 2 playthroughs also just need to edit them :D

Hi, i used to play this game in highschool 2015-2018. I recently wanted to play it again and found your channel. I find it interesting that the strategyes I have seen in your vids so far are exactely the same as we came up with back in the days. It is a fun game with many aspects to it and captures the feel of GoT so well! Who is your faviorite faction? Mine was either Tyrell or Martel, with Greyjoy and Stark on close 3. and I hated Lannister and Baratheon, lol.
i have found in my experience against Ai that its actually very easy to invade the tyrells early and fast. I think they get a little bit cucked being able to only march 2 armies for the first few turns, so I like to push my navy on to the west and hit highgarden using a land bridge
@@BeyondtheBoard I play with a friend atm 2 with 4 AI, I am waiting on other friends to get the game. If you want to play together let me know which discord do you use for playing!

I was looking just for this. Martell's lore and strategy are very insteresting.
Whenever I play Martell, I feel like a turtle. No one wants to touch me because of the cards but coming out of the southeast isn't easy either!
Terrific Video. Thanks. I can't wait to see the video on the Martel house cards!

Yes but most likely they will have it by round 1
Great video. I hope you make a House Arryn and Targaryen video. I know it's not on the online version, yet. But would love to hear your feed back.
I got the board game for my family for Christmas - just in time to watch your videos!
Greetings from Bulgaria :)
Uh oh, hope your family doesn't end up like the ones in the show!

Let me know what you guys think of the video, would you do anything differently? Next up is Tyrell so stay tuned!
ever try to take Winterfell as House Martell?
hey i pretty like you videos hope you come back to yt
Hi i just started played the game on my phone and your videos really helped me out to start as newbie. Wish we could play together sometime bro!
How did you play on the phone?!?
Hey Beyond,
How to I play like your doing here? Is the game on Steam?
Best bet is steam roll Tyrell. If not go Dragonstone
You can play this on phone of laptop? How long do the games take? 3 to 5 hours like the boardgame?
I'm not sure about your phone but laptop yes. Its functionally identical to the board game so the same play length.
isn't turn 2 mustering bad for you? tyrell gets5 units whereas you get 3
Is there any way to play this game past 10 turns?
Do you play multiplayer with friends or random people online?
Both, with game of thrones it's more random people or discord folks.
