For anyone who finds this video in 2023 or later: If you are confused about why he included a bed in needed stuff to build this farm, this farm works best at day time. Minecraft has a limit to mobs spawned at a time so at night time when there are other mobs on the ground the mobs spawn rate at the farm gets affected. So to overcome this bring that bed to the platform you built under your farm and place it there. Try to sleep every night so mobs only spawn in your farm and not in the world. Bonus info: Also make 48 carpets and make that pattern he showed in the video. Spiders are a real pain. As they can climb, they obstruct other mobs from falling in the killing chamber. I learned that the hard way.

Works amazingly! Thanks! It was quite a challenge building this in survival but you allowed me to have an enjoyable experience. I recommend having carpet so spiders don't clog it up
100%! I did this without carpet and let me tell you, spiders will 100% clog your middle as well as congregate in the corners. 15 mins in and you'll wonder why you only got 1-2 mobs falling every 3 mins. Eventually by 30 mins you'll wonder why nothing happens. USE THE CARPET!!! You will need 48 carpets total btw! Also for those that don't know how to AFK without pausing, look into the chest or bring up your inventory and then Alt-tab. HAPPY FARMING! ⚔
I think I just found my new favorite Minecraft Tutorial channel. the fact that everything is so clear, the way you build up and you show the exact number of blocks you go up or out. it's so perfect, finally someone who doesn't leave me with questions after the video.
I didn't bother slabbing the roof, I just used torches. This allows me to put in some Redstone Lamps in the roof, with redstone connections and a lever so I can turn the lights on inside to turn everything off in case I need to make some adjustments. I do similar things with zombie, skeleton, and spider spawers as well. Never turns to have an off swtich, even if you never have to use it.
I think your idea of having an off switch is really good because I built this right next to my creeper farm so I didn't have to build up again, so being able to turn one off for better rates is a really good idea.
@@tomnotbacon7707 not sure if mob spawning has changed since then. But make sure you don't have a spare torch in there, how far above the ground is the afk spot and what is the y level of the farm base?
For those looking to build this farm (which I would recommend, its quite good) heres a common issue and the issue that that brings with it. Spiders will spawn and clog up the hole. Because its 2x2 it takes them an incredibly long time to fall and die, if they ever do. The only way to fix this is to either go up every couple minutes and shoot them with a bow through the roof or place carpets every other block. The only problem with the carpets is that mobs cant squeeze under the roof anymore so theyll all get stuck in their spots in the carpets. The way to fix this is to raise the roof, but this now allows endermen to spawn. There shouldn't be a risk of them picking up blocks in ur farm unless you used rly weird materials like dirt or sand or something, however they are annoying and will teleport down to your platform so be ready for that. I just made a spot where i can safely kill them as opposed to making a roof as with a looting 3 sword i get lots of pearls which is nice. Also this farm is stackable and i highly highly recommend 2 levels. Youll see an instant difference its crazy. I might try 3 levels but ngl it seems like it'd be overkill being that by the time i sort the items dropped, theres already a ton more mobs
@@mrcharels456-yr7gf i added another layer of water just below the one already in there, and made them all one block closer to the middle so that the end of the waters stream was over the hole. (You only have to do this on 2 opposing sides). Then signs underneath. They can now drop from a greater height but the fall dmg is reset by the water and they won’t die when you get to higher layers. There is a chance that at high enough it’ll no longer slow them maybe ? but more than 3 layers is pretty unnecessary imo
Yeah, that’s what I did, I originally had 8 buckets of water but the water that I placed earlier sucked it up so I had to make a infinite water source.
I just bringed up 2 buckets, did a 3 space hole while working with more cobblestone, used a bucket on each side so the middle would fill up, and then just start grabbing water only by the middle and that's it
for people building on land I recommend building 128 blocks up rather than 100 because mobs will not be able to interfere with the spawn rate if you go up that high
Built this farm, as soon as I went to try it out, a creeper somehow exploded inside and destroyed the whole bottom section, and I was swarmed by mobs and died in my 2+ year hardcore wold
Very simple, useful and only 3minutes long! exactly what i was looking for, not like those crappy outdated 19minutes long videos that spent most their time in introducing themselves and random stuff and advertising some random product and then giving you an outdated ovverated farm to build just because theyre too lazy to show an actual farm.
This is an amazing farm. I thought it would be mediocre at best but it’s phenomenal. A few tips for builders: 1. I built this using extra slabs instead of carpets and it seems to work fine. 2. If the farm is slowing down climbing down the ladder a few blocks and then going back up can clear mobs and jumpstart the farm again. 3. I didn’t feel like making hoppers, so if you leave the farm open on all sides and place trapdoors on the bottom of each block where the mobs are you can make corners where you can collect all the drops and no mobs will be able to see you. Thanks for this tutorial!
Yeah instead of carpets i used slabs, but i didnt put them in the pattern as shown on the video, i just put them everywhere on the spawning areas so should i do it differently?
@@zrvo I was abit of an idiot so i put it on the ground, even with like 10000 candles it still spawns like 3 mobs an hour (its time i break it all down)
tip !! (edited) if you opt to build your farm around hills, ensure no nearby hills are within the 128-block high radius to prevent mobs from spawning on those surfaces. counter this by building higher than 128 blocks to be further away from those hills and scouting at night to check for any remaining mob spawns. You can also use light sources such as torches to stop mobs from spawning in those areas.
@@bapakkocheng yes you do need to go as high as the video no matter where you build, because if you’re close to any ground, it will trigger mobs to spawn around those ground areas and you will have less mobs spawning in your xp farm
@@clubsign36 I don't think torches will work as torches are non-solid blocks so mobs will just go through it. I am not sure about lanterns. But the idea of the slab being there is so small mobs can't go through and kill you
Playing on Java 1.21 Tips for anybody making this - DO NOT skip the carpet! If you do, you'll notice mobs falling a lot less because spiders will literally clog up the holes. It was a pretty big pain to go up and fix it after the fact. So just make sure you do it first. Works a great when it's set up correctly, and I'm not even very good at this game lol. For efficiency, I've added another layer on top of mine. Granted the mobs that spawn from the top layer and fall down die on impact, but if you want to loot and don't care about the xp then its a good solution. In addition if you only wanted xp and more efficiency then make multiple layers, but put them closer to the platform so the mobs spawn, but don't die to fall damage. I never built an XP farm before and this was incredibly easy. After years of playing I always leveled up by mining and breeding and mobs hunting (I was convinced XP farms meant complicated redstone and such). I now feel rather silly considering how easy this was - and fast to build! After building in my (Java) survival world, I built this in my tester creative mode flat world to figure out how to decorate it. I found making a tall, lit up tower with glow berries, lanterns, spiral staircase and windows (and extra decoration's) with the top having hanging lanterns makes it looks sick!
Tip for people with more time: You can double stack the whole top layer, but make sure the main drop is slightly off, as if it went down the main chute things would die of fall damage

Why not just make the roof out of slabs instead of full blocks with slabs on top? You'd save 324 full blocks! Slabs don't let the light in, and a slab above, as opposed to a full block above, has no effect on spawning mechanics.

Basically as shown. Are you sure there is no light inside the structure (maybe spare torch from when you were building it) @GManJan
I think your idea of having an off switch is really good because I built this right next to my creeper farm so I didn't have to build up again, so being able to turn one off for better rates is a really good idea.
Smart!
Does this farm work in 1.12.2? I built this in my 1.12.2 survival world. I was afking for 3 mins but no mob spawned. Im so confused
@@tomnotbacon7707 not sure if mob spawning has changed since then. But make sure you don't have a spare torch in there, how far above the ground is the afk spot and what is the y level of the farm base?
farm is a beauty! I gained three levels from afking for around 45 seconds to a min! You earned a sub!
How did you do layers
@@mrcharels456-yr7gf i added another layer of water just below the one already in there, and made them all one block closer to the middle so that the end of the waters stream was over the hole. (You only have to do this on 2 opposing sides). Then signs underneath. They can now drop from a greater height but the fall dmg is reset by the water and they won’t die when you get to higher layers. There is a chance that at high enough it’ll no longer slow them maybe ? but more than 3 layers is pretty unnecessary imo
@@tekiii1 could you place slabs as the roof to prevent endermen from spawning, while also allowing the mobs to roam and prevent spiders?
what if you make the 'elevator 3x3 instead of 2x2?
What about using slabs on the roof so its 2.5 blocks high? That should allow mobs to walk over the carpet without spawning endermen
Would recommend making an infinite water source as it would take 8 water sources in each trench.
thats what i thought :)
Yeah, that’s what I did, I originally had 8 buckets of water but the water that I placed earlier sucked it up so I had to make a infinite water source.
Just 2 per trench
I just bringed up 2 buckets, did a 3 space hole while working with more cobblestone, used a bucket on each side so the middle would fill up, and then just start grabbing water only by the middle and that's it
Good thing my base is besides the sea
for people building on land I recommend building 128 blocks up rather than 100 because mobs will not be able to interfere with the spawn rate if you go up that high
Wdym if you build higher would it not be the same
@@leone0920 yes theoretically it would be the same , aslong it is above 128 it should be the same

A few tips for builders:
You can replace the carpets with slabs?!?!
@@aabrakadabraa_ I did and it prevents spiders all the same. Not sure if it affects the spawn rates but it seems to work perfectly well

@@killerqueen868those arent slabs though, they're full blocks
tip !! (edited)
if you opt to build your farm around hills, ensure no nearby hills are within the 128-block high radius to prevent mobs from spawning on those surfaces. counter this by building higher than 128 blocks to be further away from those hills and scouting at night to check for any remaining mob spawns. You can also use light sources such as torches to stop mobs from spawning in those areas.
do you need to go as high as the video above if you build it on top of the hill? please hep because im on my hardcore and no where near the ocean
@@bapakkocheng yes you do need to go as high as the video no matter where you build, because if you’re close to any ground, it will trigger mobs to spawn around those ground areas and you will have less mobs spawning in your xp farm
