*** Highlights of Kiyomizudera Temple +++
    It was founded in 778.
The founder was Gyoei, the founder was Enshin, the original vow was Tamuramaro, and the founder of the revival was Onishi Ryokei.
The principal image is the Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva.
Kannon changes his form into 33 different bodies and extends a helping hand to all living beings in response to their needs.
The Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva expresses great mercy with his 11 expressions and 42 hands, and saves people from hardship.
The famous Kiyomizu stage is made of 139 keyaki pillars and was built using a method that does not use any nails.
During the Edo period, many people would jump off the stage, but this was stopped when a ban on jumping was issued in 1872.
Within the temple grounds there is also a monument to the ancestors of actor Kondo Masaomi, as well as a teahouse.
