  • My 7 week ride through Europe after shipping my 1974 Police Eldorado from Australia to Europe via Holland, Inc Germany, Czech republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Lichtenstein. Ultimately arriving in Mandello for the 95th Anniversary of Moto Guzzi with 47 other bikes from Australia. This is a long video be warned, but it has a lovely Moto Guzzi soundtrack as I ride through each country. The trip of a lifetime (for me).

    Excellent! Crossed the US on my 1975 V7 Sport clone in 2000, shipped there from Sweden, and then home again. Sold it in 2015. Now when the kids have almost grown up I got the riding-itch again. Picking up a nice California II on friday!

    Guzzi's are such special bikes, I'm not surprised you're so invested in them. The engine sound throughout your video is all the soundtrack you need.

      Thanks Terry, I watch this now and it takes me straight back remembering every corner and every amazing experience. I also think of the Health journey that we both had in the 12 months leading up to going and how that was the catalyst to making the trip. Certainly no regrets and if anything this trip takes on more significance in these current times. I see this as my little home video of our trip but it seems others are interested as well. Catch up soon. BM

    Hi Brian and thank you for such an entertaining video. How long in total did the trip take? Your light touch commentary-wise was appreciated as it enabled me to sit back and enjoy the ride through both new and previously visited places. As a recent returnee to Guzzi ownership, Mandello is now on my agenda and certainly the museum looks well worth a tour. Did you record the total distances you covered and did you or your fellow travellers encounter any other problems besides the headers, tyre and clutch cable. Even if you did, it’s a tribute to Guzzi engineering that you successfully completed it on bikes of that age.
    One small pan, I’ve covered all of 200 miles this past week on my Breva and been royally soaked on both occasions. You,on the other hand, come all the way from Australia ride vast distances and seemed to stay bone dry.Life is so unfair!!!!!!

    • @smeghead61
      @smeghead61  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tony, we were very lucky with the weather, one day of riding in rain in 7 weeks away. We had prepared the bikes fairly well, had all been asked to check drive shaft shiming and any issues with timing chains etc. Any one with old bikes were encouraged to install the newer style of timing chain tensioners if this had never been done. That said we had no one have their bike fail and need a tow. One guy had someone try to steal his stelvio and damaged the dash and key, so he had to spend some $ and get it fixed, (happened in England) . All the old Carby bikes ran well, mine certainly seemed to like whatever was in the fuel over there. Many of us felt we could smell the ethanol in the fuel in some areas and any I got on my tank was very harsh on the old paint! Some people with later bikes had a few backfiring issues indicating our fuel in Aus must be slightly different? Again maybe ethanol? No major mechanical issues. I did about 7500 k's, one guy did close to 12,000 in the 7 weeks. Glad you enjoyed the Video. Cheers Brian

      Hi Ross. We did all the shipping and organising of containers and insurance. We had to have some third party insurance for the time we were riding in Europe and from memory that was around $200-$300? Aussie The shipping costs including buying some crates to carry the bikes was Around $900- from memory. Bike insurance was something individuals organised with their Aust insurance companies or some possibly chose no insurance. Shipping insurances were included in the shipping costs.

      We were planing to ship our bike back for this year and the 100Th, we have cancelled because of Covid. No insurance companies will cover us for travelling at this time, Quarantining possibly on return adds $3000 to our trip etc etc etc
