@@da_blade5040 i love when foolish people try to tell other foolish people what a song is about, and i love it even more when the foolish people argue over who is right and try to prove each other wrong. How is it possible in 2022 that not every single human who has half a functioning brain doesn´t realize every song has 75 different meanings to about100 different people.? People, I hate to break it to you, you´re not smarter than the guy who thinks this song has a different meaning than you think it does, you didn´t solve any riddle and you don´t understand songs better than everyone else. Art is here for interpretation, how one interprets it typically has to do with ones past experiences and sometimes just a situation one went through while hearing this song when he was younger. There is some schmuck out there who believes this song has to do with signs on a beach and he will argue that point until the day he dies because when he was 15 years old with his buddies the beach patrol chased them off the beach at 11 pm pointing at the signs that said no beach access after 5 pm....btw they were preppies, short hair and dressed well. In short, every song mean something different to everyone else.

Lex, I complemented you the other day for absolutely nailing the lyrical content of one song.
Today, good Lord, you couldn’t have been more off base.
This song was originally done by a band called Five Man Electric Band, in the late ‘60’s. It was a monster counter culture/ protest song.
Tesla covered it in 1990, on an album called Five Man Acoustic Jam. And the point was basically that over 20 years later, nothing really had changed. But the song was NO JOKE. This was a serious protest anthem. Tesla spiced it up a bit with a little aggressive language, but it is probably what the original guys wanted to say anyhow, but ‘signs’ would’ve prohibited that.

    • @toddstevens13

Les driving on the historical Route 66 in California was horrified by the sad amount of Billboard Signs blocking out the scenery. Also on the trip, he, who had late 60's hair, was told he could not enter a couple of places, due to his "looks". When he returned home to Canada, he wrote down his adventures.

This was recorded at a bar in Philadelphia while they were on tour in the early 90's (with Motley Crue I think). They took a couple of their free days on the tour and booked gigs at some local bars to do a full acoustic set. Of the 5 shows they did like this, this is the only one that got recorded and then released as a live album called "Five Man Acoustical Jam" in a tribute to the original writers of this song the Five Man Electrical Band. This is by far my favorite live album ever with all the covers and even how their own big hits change when they perform the acoustic. The best one from this show for my money is the version of "Love Song" they perform. I know you have already reacted to the music video/studio version of that song, but the acoustic is a lot better in my ever so humble opinion.

On point. They came along at the tail end of ‘Hair Metal’ (of which I’m also a huge fan) and they got pigeonholed into that genre when they were really so much more than that. I’d say that the band Great White had a similar situation. Arrived on scene around the same time, were lumped in as a wannabe hair band, but were actually an OUTSTANDING Bluesy Rock Band. Please, please, PLEASE react to Tesla's tribute to Steve Clarke.
Frank Hannon of Tesla and Steve Clarke of Dep Leppard created a bond while touring together.
When Steve noticed how much Frank loved the sound of the Gibson SG guitar, Steve gave him one.
Frank said no one ever gave him a guitar before.
After Steve died (way too early) Tesla wrote SONG AND EMOTION as a tribute to Steve.
And they composed the guitar style as Steve would have played it.

Back when I was 15-21 yrs old and going to a lot of concerts in the Knoxville Tn area in the 80's , Tesla and Cinderella were the opening acts on soooo many shows , and often put the Headliner act to shame .
Little Suzi and Modern Day Cowboy are my favorite Tesla songs .

Not a silly song in the least. And recorded live at the Trocadero in Philly. I was lucky enough to have been there that night. One of the greatest acoustic sets ever recorded.

Yes, the changed up the lyrics a bit from the original by the Five Man Electrical Band ( out of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). The original was "BLOCKIN' OUT THE SCENERY" (not F***ing Up" And then when he makes his own "LITTLE sign" (again NOT "f***ing sign") NO way would the radio play it back then with how Tesla did it here! Lol!

In 1990 Tesla were on tour with Mötley Crüe, for whom they were opening US dates in promotion of the album Dr. Feelgood. On June 2, a day off occurred, during which the band decided to put on an acoustic show in which each member would choose a different cover to perform. Singer Jeff Keith decided on Signs, a song by the Five Man Electrical Band he grew up listening to in Oklahoma. However, his bandmates did not know the piece, so Keith gave a copy to each of them so they could learn it. [6]
The performance was so successful that Tesla decided to repeat it again for a couple of charity dates, including one at the Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia, on July 2, that the band decided to record almost by chance, for personal use and consumption only. A few months later a local radio began to broadcast the recording of Signs performed by the group that evening, which quickly became in demand by listeners, triggering a real word of mouth among fans who pressured the record company to publish the entire concert.
The album was released in November under the title Five Man Acoustical Jam, in homage to the name of the Five Man Electrical Band that had composed that Signs capable of allowing the immediate distribution of the album in stores. [6] The single became Tesla's biggest chart success and pushed the album to #12 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. [7]

It was written in response to the massive increase in advertising commercial property. With the highway building explosion of the 1960’s. Which leads into another similar protest song “Superhighways “ by Ballin’Jack.Another great listen .

Do you want to accept what other people demand you to do ? Or do you want to challenge your freedom? This song is more serious than you think. It’s about being who you are no matter what other people try to make you be. Street signs & road signs have NOTHING to do with this one. ♥️
