    Ok, I can understand why someone would rent out their equipment, but I want to know how am I guaranteed that I will get my gear back in the same condition I sent it out? That's my major concern for this site, and this business modle.

    • @charlescampbell5894

      From the Fretish FAQ:
      "At Fretish, we do everything in our power to protect the owner and their instrument. Before any aspiring renter can strap on your ax, they must meet our stringent eligibility criteria. Fretish does not advertise to the masses. Rather, great care is taken to identify musicians that honor and respect instruments and the people that own them. Moreover, you are provided with tools to reject rental requests should you not feel comfortable with a potential renter for any reason."
      Sounds like a load of horseshit to me.

      @mhsandifer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Read: While the shitbags that make it thru our stringent screening process are doing what they do best, we're doing all we can to not be held responsible for damage and/or theft.
      Better make sure you have separate insurance if you can get it.
      I wouldn't rent my gear to most of the people I know, much less to a stranger. But, to each his own.

    • @riffsnreviews
      @riffsnreviews 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah you have to "trust" Fretish but Fretish isn't responsible if something goes wrong. So in other words zero protection from damage, even potentially theft (well you'd have to get the police involved). Renting out equipment only really works with a security deposit imo.

    You do know it's against the advertisers standard agency and FTC to not disclose paid promotions in the video?
    "Given that embedded TH-cam videos do not display the description of a video below them, this means that burying disclosure in the description is not acceptable."
    "What we say is that it should be easily seen or viewed... It should basically be unavoidable by the viewer."
    Mary Engle, associate director for Advertising Practices at the FTC
    Those quotes where form an article concerning promotion in youtube. You can actually be reported an investigated for this. Unfortunately it is rather common among your community to fail to disclose things like how you got X gear e.i from a store or company and where you paid to review it. I might be bad to say but I hope the penny drops and someone gets made an example of so that the youtube personalities we watch who brand themselves on being "genuine" and "honest" actually act like it and show transparency. Shill a product/service if you have to money is money I guess. But at least be honest about it and tell your fans who value your consumer advise rather then pull the wool over their eyes.
    I for example can not trust your opinion now because by not clearly disclosing I don't know for sure if you did this intentionally to make your opinion seem more genuine thus getting more people to take interest in this product or if it was a honest mistake/ignorance of the current rules of advertising (and that's me being kind and not jumping to conclusions)
    I hope you address this criticism seriously in future and make efforts for more transparent disclosure.

    • @jubjub905
      @jubjub905 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ad1170 Well if you managed to come to the conclusion on your own that he is doing a lot of this and that the paid promotions aren't genuine, then you really don't need the regulation now do you?

    • @ad1170
      @ad1170 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      jubjub f jubjub f yeah, I came to the conclusion because I read a comment that pointed out that he had buried his disclosure in the description bar. Fun fact alot of poeple who watch youtube videos often times don't read the comments/description. You only have to look at the ratio of comments to views to work that one out. I already made the case clear as to why he should be adhering to the standards. If he is masking product promotions as impartial reviews/consumer advice then that isn't moral. If you honestly believe that they should be no need for influential content creators to be transparent about their dealings that I honestly don't know what to really say to you. The regulation are there and If I recall correctly youtube even have a function to mark videos as paid promotions which I am unsure if fluff has even done.
      It should also be noted I have not seem him reply to a single comment which is usual. So draw your own conclusions about whether this was a mistake by ignorance or was malicious.

    The idea seems cool
    On the top of it, it seems like a WIN / WIN situation. The renter gets what they need, and the owner gets paid.
    But what isn't being said completely ruins it's for the owner seeking to potentially offer their hard earned equipment for rent. Which makes it only sound like a WIN / RISK situation.
    A VITAL PART OF INFORMATION WAS MISSING FROM THE VIDEO.
    WHAT SAFE GUARDS ARE SET IN PLACE BY THE COMPANY, FOR THE OWNER, IN CASE OF DAMAGED OR STOLEN EQUIPMENT?
    SEEING THAT THIS VIDEO IS SPONSORED BY FRETISH, THIS POST BECOMES NOTHING MORE THAN JUST AN ADD THAT IS SEVERELY LACKING VITAL INFORMATION.

    The only way I could see this working and the only way I’d use it is if I had equipment just to rent out, something people would use but nothing I’d be sentimental about, I’d then insure it ( probably a specific policy to cover rental). I’ve considered doing this many times with P.A. equipment but never found the space to store the gear lol!

    This is a neat idea that i would love to see become a viable thing that worked well. it would be super useful for one-time studio recordings, or one time live gig to rent quality gear. or even just to try out a piece of gear at home before buying it. there are so many amps that Guitar center doesn't have for! i think it would be like Uber or Lyft... if... the drivers let the passengers drive their cars! • @rolandlemus203
    @rolandlemus203 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    absolutely not. If you have a ton of equipment, and wouldn't miss it, but even then, no, forget it lol, just can't wrap my head around this, one, how many people actually out there that fit this criteria? There are that many transient musicians on vacation that have to go and borrow guitars? A vacation is usually a time to get away from the norm...I would just hit up a Guitar store and play the new stuff and then leave, I don't want to pay rent to jam on a guitar for a couple of days. Just bring my own to the vacation. Interesting to see if there is really a market for this....

    This seems like a viable thing if you have too much money, buy a bunch of instruments to make this into your own business of instrument/gear rental, and market it as ferociously as possible using Fretish as the vehicle. I can't see how an individual owner with one or two things to rent will want to trust their gear to (likely) strangers, and make any money from that on a regular basis. Interesting idea, Fretish, but will be curious to see how the reality of it pans out. Other commenters have cited the top concerns of damage/theft/wear and tear.

    The only way I see this making sense is if they keep track of the overall value of the item you rented out and have the people renting the items attach their bank account which would have to have enough money In it to cover the overall value, so Fretish can auto withdraw the amount due no questions if the item gets lost, damaged, stolen, or pawned off. They don't let you rent a car if you don't have insurance, there needs to be something similar in place here.

    As cool as this sounds, I feel like people are gonna steal instruments rather than borrow it. Maybe I'm being pessimistic idk.

    Definitely geography dependent. I'm in Tampa, Florida, and the nearest guitar rentals available to me are 900 miles away. Hopefully this will catch on, and things will be much more available.

      In Fluff's defense, he does say in the video that the service is just starting and that he's hoping if the word gets out, that it will spread more places.

    Ok, I can see how this is a cool concept, and that renting for the day has a zillion benefits. I just have a problem with a shitload of grubby paws grubbing up my precious axes! I'd be good with renting other people's stuff though!

    Idea is good, will have to read through the T&Cs of fretish. As many guys here pointed out, we do not know what kind of security does Fretish provide. And I bet that it is non-existent, knowing these "marketplace" sites, that try to make money and have no responsibility over the service provided on their platform. I am from central Europe, and I do not really think that this is a good idea around here. If my gear was stolen/never returned, it would take years to get it back through legal actions. I would have to take a deposit of at least half of the street price, and I bet people who would like to rent the gear would not be eager to give me like 500€ as a return-deposit + the night fee

    I'm not liking the fact that the ad disclaimer is in the description and not in the video. Were cool with ads fluff, we just want to know it's an ad.

    Ok and what if someone like me rent's out a $1,500 guitar and say that it falls with out me touching it and the headstock break's and I go and tell the owner of the guitar that's it do I have to pay the owner back and what about insurance for me I would be to scarred to even take it out of the box I would more rather go to my local guitar store and buy one there and if I wanted to get something special in all I have to do is ask and give him some money and I can get it

    This is like asking for someone to damage or steal your gear... granted you won't put up your main guitar or rig on there I would hope, but if it's not a guitar or rig that's something another person can't afford then they won't bother.

    So just from personally reading your comments, it already seems like people are hesitant of lending out their instruments using the service. And rightly so, a lot of us have super nice equipment that we do not want to see get damaged in any form.
    Here is an excerpt straight from the site's "How it Works" page:
    " *HOW DO I KNOW MY INSTRUMENT WILL BE SAFE?*
    At Fretish, we do everything in our power to protect the owner and their instrument. Before any aspiring renter can strap on your ax, they must meet our stringent eligibility criteria. Fretish does not advertise to the masses. Rather, great care is taken to identify musicians that honor and respect instruments and the people that own them. Moreover, you are provided the tools to reject rental requests should you not feel comfortable with a potential renter for any reason."
    Use the third Fretish link in the video description for more info.
    None of my instruments are ready for rental yet, but I already have an account set up in case I get my instruments cleaned up and presented well, so I can rent out some neat stuff in the Colorado area. I'll mainly have basses, but I'll slowly start to have a collection of instruments, hopefully in the coming months.

    I wouldn't rent my instruments, but I'd totally rent my amp. And I can see how that could work in that application. Let's say your band has a gig in another town, you could rent amps if the venue doesn't have, and you don't have to travel with your own.
    Still, don't f*cking touch my basses.

    I'd have to stay with my guitars. I hanging out with the renter for the day. I might be able to handle that. They'd be renting me and my guitar. You might be able to tell by character, if there are responsible enough, but you open yourself up to the one's that aren't responsible, then you have to try to deny these people service. That's some self inflicting frustrations
