    Thanks Elin, your clear explanation of the lock-out mechanism takes the mystery out of the shift assembly! Simple design to prevent transmission damage, but now I know how it works.

      LOL. It took me 3 or 4 takes and at the end a lot of editing to make it sound clear LOL. And I am still not happy, it could have been explained simpler and clearer. Next time :)

    Hi Elin, jumping speedo is usually a worn or damaged speedo cable outer catching the inner cable.

    early start mister, as well at least for me. Perfect reason for a coffee with Elin and Nik.

    Remove the inner speedo cable, clean & grease (use light grease) up to 3/4” from the speedo end. That should stop the speedo from bouncing !

    You can re-use anything made of copper by annealing.
    Heat it up to red hot & quench it in water, then clean off the scale !🔧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    I think the wood is absorbing much of the shock, that's why using the hammer handle worked. When I removed mine, I made a big drift using a 3/4" pipe nipple, with a brass cap on one end and a regular pipe cap on the hammering end.

    Having done this job on a TR-4 overdrive transmission myself back in the 1970's it gave me the opportunity to see the very clever, but relatively simple design of the system. Great video again Elin.. Happy New Year to you and yours ( & David). 😄

    Hopefully you have got most of the leaks sorted from that gearbox. Strange design of joint to the overdrive, I expect a lot of them must be leaky!!
    Good luck from Spain!!

    man my 1955 TR3 engine block was way cleaner as far as rust and I found the TR3 painted on the side from the factory and I will be able to preserve it. I just got a ultra sonic cleaner and man run evapo-rust in that and 30 minuets and done and no black to remove.

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  ปีที่แล้ว

      You got a big one then. I have an ultra sonic cleaner that barely fits a carb LOL. Actually David has it now

    Hey Elin, Not sure if it is something you're aware of or if it matters but at 1:04:20 when you are tightening the bolt the solenoid looking thingy on the side comes up off its stop. Maybe that's related to the overdrive issue?

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that is OK, when the solenoid is not energized the plunger has a lot of play. I will replace the solenoid soon anyway.

  • @RichardHeadGaming

    Bouncing Speedo needles normally means the cable needs lubed or replaced.

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I got the same advise from someone else. I will try to take out the cable and lubricate it!

    Another very interesting video. I have to ask, what are the switches for? Are there lights to tell you which gear you are in? My GT6 has one switch for the back up lights. I would like to have all the tools that you have, the spot welder, the lathe, etc,etc. One tool that we do have in common is the oil feeder. I have the exact one in red too. Mine is about fifty years old and still works perfectly.

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  ปีที่แล้ว

      The switches are to tell the overdrive it is safe to engage. One is closed only in second and the other one in third and fourth so when they are connected in parallel with eachother and in series with the solenoid, the overdrive would engage only in second third and fourth.
      My oil feeder is as old as tours and it works much better than the 2 or 3 others that are a few years old

    I'm not versed in overdrives at all, so question. Could you put some rtv on that friction fit seal?

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, without taking it apart it won't have much effect, but I might try that if nothing else works.

    That speedometer drive housing looked to have overheated ?

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that was some kind of a sealant that someone used there, trying to prevent it from leaking.

    Elin at 21:00, what is the large hole on the bottom of the bell housing for?

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have no idea. It is only on early transmissions. I guess for visual clutch inspection? Just a guess.
