    I live in North Central Florida outside of Jacksonville. We get temperatures down in the mid to low twenties in the winter not for very extended periods it's usually only one night at a time and then it warms back up but we'll get about a total of a week or so of sub freezing temperatures I planted a Lila avocado inground 2 years ago, and it has taken off its going crazy seems to love it I never covered it never did anything in the winter and it didn't have a single issue didn't get any leaves wilted or frozen or anything didn't stunt its growth it bloomed great in the spring February March and now I've got more avocados on it then I know what to do with it's about 6 ft tall right now in about 4 years old total so if you live in that area it's a great avocado to go with as well seems to love the sandy soil in our area as well

    This was an awesome video, very informational. I wish I could grow avocados in my area. I loved the ending of the video, where you showed all of those front yards with avocado and various other fruit trees planted. Question: At 20:17 you drive by a property with a giant fence that has what looks like 3 or 4 extra feet of netting or something at the top of a typical chainlink fence. There were also signs posted. I'm curious to know what that was. Seems like someone went through an awful lot of trouble to put up that fence. No other properties had such major fencing structures around them. Was that an avocado orchard or something? Really curious about that part of the video for some reason.

      Hello
      Spencer Pendleton! Thank you SO VERY MUCH for the compliment! At 20:17 is another home owner that fenced and installed security cameras to protect his/ her avocados from theft! :-) Gerardo & I rang the doorbell at that home in hopes of getting a private tour!!! Maybe next time! Charles :-)

    Over here in Florida. I would say Lila is the best for cold hardness. But we also can't grow the varieties you guys can because it's sooo humid here. But the avocado also opens male and female at the same time here as well. So no need for cross pollination.

    I have seen people grow avo trees in pots and get fruit. I get it though it’s much better for the tree to be in ground but if the pots big enough and well taken care of then I’m sure it would be ok and give fruit.

    I heard Kona Sharwil avocado or some growers just call it Sharwil is the best but no one mentioned it. It’s a type B avocado so u will need a type A avocado to produce a good amount of fruits. Some good and highly rated type A avocado are Jan Boyce, Carmen, Nabal, Pinkerton and of course Hass and etc. What do u think?

  • @asianthor
    @asianthor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    At the beginning of the video where the music drowns out Charles Malki where he's at the site where the first Hass avocado tree stood in the USA there is a plaque that pays tribute to Antigua, Guatemala where the Hass avocado seed originated at. Everyone thinks that the Hass avocado originated in Mexico, but instead, it originated in Antigua, Guatemala where there too is a plaque in Antigua, Guatemala honoring the birthplace of the Hass avocado seed.
    Rudolf Hass went down to Antigua, Guatemala in 1929 and tasted the small Antigua avocado and loved it. He then took the Guatemalan avocado seeds back to California and spliced it with the larger Fuerte avocado variety that was not too well received in the USA due to its bland taste and came up with the Hass avocado that we all know today. By splicing the two avocado seeds he was able to come up with the great tasting Antigua avocado and the size of the Fuerte avocado for mass commercilization.

    I have a 4yr old avocado tree in a pot I carry inside over winter here in Denver, Colorado. It’s just finished dropping its old leaves and is putting out a fresh set over summer. The trick is they absolutely cannot take wet soil. Keep it always on the drier side.

      Get the ones that your local fruit tree nurseries sell, it should work. But you need deep soil (at least 1 meter) and excellent drainage. Avocado trees love water, but don't tolerate standing water. Under waterlogged condition their roots will rot. In case of poor drainage, if you have steep slope on your land you can try to grow avocado trees on it or build a huge mound

    • @kimhicks4781
      @kimhicks4781 ปีที่แล้ว

      The State of Florida in the USA is hot and humid and it rains a lot. You would probably do better with one of their avocados. I believe most of their growers will ship. Some of their avocados are big. Over a pound. One grower has a Maria Black that I want to get. It is a small tree. Slow growing that you can grow in a pot that is suppose to taste excellent. I am in a dry climate so do not know if it will do well but want to try it. Alot of growers in Florida sell and ship fruit for about thirty dollars for ten pounds. I would suggest you buy some fruit before buying to make sure you are going to like a particular variety. They sell during the whole season of different varieties. Just Google Florida avocados.

  • @seneciohaworthii970
    @seneciohaworthii970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So are these California/Mexican avocado varieties? I’ve never heard of any of them. I’m in Florida so I’m guessing none of them would do well in my climate. I think we grow Florida/ Caribbean and central American varieties here.
