Love my 430. I haven’t done the manual swap, but I’ve driven both a stock manual and a manual swap. Personally, I really think the F1 transmission is underrated. Yes, it’s a little sluggish from 1st to 2nd, but that’s about it. And it’s only “sluggish” if you’re thinking of it like a normal automatic. But the reality is it’s not really shifting any slower than 95% of people would. And in higher gears, it’s just as fast if not faster. The little kicks you get are great too, much more exciting than a dual clutch. Now that the manual swaps are getting easier and more affordable (it’s about $10k and you can DIY), there should be no reason to value the stock manuals so much higher than the F1 autos. Seriously, the swaps feel exactly the same, because technically it is. I considered the swap, but I think I’ll keep the F1 system until it craps out one day. Also, you can make these cars sound epic… go to my channel and listen to any of my newer videos… New exhaust sounds awesome.
The idea of F1 manuals being sluggish is so over done. Maybe the 355 with an F1 is sluggish, but even if the 360 it shifts faster than a human.. and is very mechanical feeling. The F430 is more crisp, but still mechanical. The new stuff while widely fast is kind of video-game-ish to me.

Doug, I know this is nitpicking, but it's not really a "swap", it's a conversion. You use the same transmission, you just remove the parts that do the auto-shifting and substitute them with shift rods or cables depending on what kit you use.
Dang it Doug.... now people will try to get into this market too lol. The F430 is the bargain of the century, and 6 speed conversions are commonly available. You can do the conversion and keep the original parts to revert back to the paddles if you want to. I bought a F430 spyder in Canada for just over half the price of a 458 spyder. Although the 458 has a higher redline, the F430 has more charm to it and the perfect amount of power to have fun every time you take it out.
I think this is such an underrated color combination for a Ferrari, especially a convertible one. The Metallic grey with the red interior and red calipers is such a beautiful combination.
lol I remember my dad rented the coupe version of this car for me to take to prom back in 2007. Same color! While everyone was arriving in Hummer Limos I was the most popular guy there. Good memories.
Fantastic example of one. Normally I like a rambunctious exhaust, even straight pipe on some things, but for me part of the theatre of an F430 is the way the exhaust sounds from factory. If I was the buyer, I would account for an exhaust swap. Not that this one is bad, it's just a preference I suppose.
I’m my opinion this is the first modern Ferrari. The 360 tried to be modern but aged a lot quicker than the 430. I love these cars personally and had the privilege to follow a 430 on the highway in Denver! Looks even better in person!
@@StaredownGames it would take some nice wheels and some good paint on top of the LS to make it better than a 430 for me. But I see where you’re going. I’d love to see it haha
That's the thing. Now that it's mid-engine, the Corvette is better than a Ferrari in almost every way. They simply aren't built to be traffic cars. I won't disagree on the sound though. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason people bought Maseratis.
3:56 apparently a major failure point in the transmission is the potentiometer that is used in the automated manual transmission, it's a costly part that is constantly on backorder by Ferrari, I saw one youtuber who had this problem and converted his f430 to manual for this very reason.
This was the only modern Ferrari I was interested in. There was a lovely classic red over beige one with a manual transmission for AU$200k about 10 years ago, I very nearly spent my house-purchasing budget on it! Now they cost more and there are no manuals, so meh.
One important design element is that the f430 is the last convertible Ferrari with an engine view. From what I can quickly recall the 360 spider is the only other model with an engine view, those before don’t and those after is all folding hard top
The fuel door and all the other buttons can probably be operated with the car in the accessory position. So you better hope the battery isnt dead. You can still run the accessories when out of fuel
I just don't like the light Grey around the shifter(shifter boot) with a all Red interior; It really don't look factory ! But otherwise 10/10, I'll take this manual conversion over the F1 trans...
@@vapor4den the trans doesn't get swapped, the electro-shiftomatic-junk gets removed and shift cables / clutch pedal gets added. Would probably be easy to take that piece to an auto upholstery guy and have some red leather put over it... I do agree that would look better than that silver box, especially the leather with the shift gate on top, it would really stand out.
This is probably going to be my first Ferrari when the time comes, most likely a red hardtop with a tan interior as that's the colorway I grew up with. The rear 3/4 angle is so dreamy🥰
The transmission is actually original on this car. The F1 transmission comes in both the manual and automatic 430s, all you have to do is change the shift mechanism and the ECU and a couple other things. But the transmission itself remains,
It’s actually good that it’s not letting you open the glove box, when it’s not running - when you leave it roof down, no one can get something from it just passing by.
I remember when I first saw an F430 at a racetrack. That sound as it accelerated into the track's straightaway will be burned into my brain forever. Genuinely sounded like a spaceship accelerating to warp speed - at least, what I'd want one to sound like. I got the opportunity to ride in a Huracan that day. Incredible car to be sure - I kinda prefer it to the F430 - but it didn't sound even close to as good.
Doug is the type of guy to make a second review of the Ferrari F430 Spider and delete the first one from 5-6 years ago. Making me spend all night looking for it. But it’s gone now. Why, why do you do this to me Doug?!
Also the electronic glove box release(and the others) are that way for security. If you parked with the top down no one can open your glove box, storage, or fuel door
Pls make a vid about who to buy what hybrid/EV 🙏 Like isn't a plug in hybrid more efficient on long trips too wn they say it can travel like 700 miles?
The F430 is drive by wire. The 355 was the last V8 Ferrari with a mechanical connection to the throttle peddle. James May had a silver f430. I'm really not a fan of the f430 design. It's way too cluttered. The 360 and 355 looks better. The front of the 430 is designed to hark back to the "shark nose" F1 Ferrari's of the 60's. It's called a 430 because the engine is 4.3 liters. I am a huge fan of manual transmissions. Hoovie had his Ferrari 599 converted by "Normal guy supercars" to a manual. I really hope that demand for manual transmission cars grows in the coming years. I know manual transmission Murcielago's now command a premium over the flappy paddle ones. Thank you.
Pretty much any manual from that era (and even newer ones, see Porsche GT3s) commands a premium over auto because they don’t suck like single clutch autos, automated manuals, and early DCTs, and they arent convoluted machines that tend to incur extremely expensive repair bills like almost every auto in an exotic car
Could be all those buttons that require the power to be on in the car are like that, so the compartments are not accessible to anyone when the car is parked with the roof down. Lesser cabrios like fx. a Miata lets you lock the glove box and the compartment between the seats with the car key - and the remote opener for the boot and the fuel door are in the compartment between the seats, so you can in effect also lock those.
Seeing that these models are getting manual swaps. Makes them a lot more desirable for me. I do like modern cars with DCT or a good automatic. But there'll always be something special about a true manual, 3 pedal, shift it yourself car.
God, I’ve been thinking of selling my gated 430, but this video and the Ferrari movie put that on ice. Can’t wait for spring to get it out again and roll those miles on.
How is the clutch for the conversions? Do they still need to be replaced every 15k miles? Is there any good aftermarket clutches these cars can take to increase milage between replacements?
A man imported a Lada Riva from Serbia to Chicago and is selling it. I just read in our daily newspaper. This is an extraordinary curiosity. Maybe an interesting car for cars and bids. It is currently with Serbian plates and is in factory condition. It has only 45,000 km. Greetings from Serbia
Imho, the 360 Modena has always been the prettier and classier looking car. It's also aging much better than the F430, which has always looked like a cluttered mish-mash of different/stuck on design elements.
Ufff the sound of the ferraris engines ... sorry for Tesla fans but I dont care how fast in straight line goes the Plaid etc, this handle beautifull and the engine is a masterpiece and looks amazing.
Love that you name the manual 430 as your third favorite Ferrari behind the F50 and F40, but then you have the Scud at the end with a higher (the highest) Doug score. The Scud is the better car.
The stamped f430 symbol on the wing mirror is like the f40 stamp only being on one side of the f40 spoiler - it’s a nod to the fact that enzo ferrari apparently didn’t want to see the symbol going backwards and not forwards

That sounds amazing.
Ah yes, during the Hummer H2 craze when the H2 stretch limos were super popular!
@@volvo09 yea!! Everyone was popping with those to make "an entrance" yet no one expected mines
@@aftermathsample305damn Ferrari to prom, for me it was a fiat punto…
How did your father make sure that his teenager kid gets to drive a rental Ferrari ? Here nobody under 21 will even get a Ferrari rental.
an amazing car designed by Frank Stephenson's Team, love the mix of modern and analog vibe of this car ;)
You keep saying transmission swap, but the transmission doesn’t get swapped.
Thank you. Adding a pedal and shifter/linkage/etc and updating the electronics/tune isn’t swapping a transmission.
Doug’s the type of guy that says he loves a manual trans in 2024
Doesn't that OFF button turn on or off the compressor, so that you can deactivate the power-sapping compressor belt?
I’m my opinion this is the first modern Ferrari. The 360 tried to be modern but aged a lot quicker than the 430. I love these cars personally and had the privilege to follow a 430 on the highway in Denver! Looks even better in person!
360 is junk but slap a LS in it and I'd take it over the F430 any day. It's my favorite Ferrari.
@@StaredownGames it would take some nice wheels and some good paint on top of the LS to make it better than a 430 for me. But I see where you’re going. I’d love to see it haha
@@StaredownGamesthat’s dumb just buy a Corvette if you want an LS, the Ferrari engine is a musical instrument with the right exhaust
@@pl3a5enophotozactually the Enzo is the first modern Ferrari it came out in 2002 and still looks modern
That's the thing. Now that it's mid-engine, the Corvette is better than a Ferrari in almost every way. They simply aren't built to be traffic cars. I won't disagree on the sound though. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason people bought Maseratis.
I had one in f1 and I regret not getting the manual when I bought it every day
3:56 apparently a major failure point in the transmission is the potentiometer that is used in the automated manual transmission, it's a costly part that is constantly on backorder by Ferrari, I saw one youtuber who had this problem and converted his f430 to manual for this very reason.
Nice to see the use of a 'Doug Chair ' for pratical, indoor car reviews.
Maybe that ac off button turns off cold air fan is different from ac
Where is the cybertruck review?? Seems like everyone and their mom has driven and reviewed it.
This was the only modern Ferrari I was interested in. There was a lovely classic red over beige one with a manual transmission for AU$200k about 10 years ago, I very nearly spent my house-purchasing budget on it! Now they cost more and there are no manuals, so meh.
My dream Ferrari. No matter how old it will be. I still want one.
Wouldn't the off button be for turning on and off the ac compressor? My scion has this button as well. Nothing out of the ordinary 11:50
I love these cars, they still seem kind of old school but look so great. Really aging well.
Yess finally a video filmed outside back to the normal doug😊
11:45 does the off turn A/C off? meaning that when it's on it runs the a/c compressor etc but when it's off it doesn't
One important design element is that the f430 is the last convertible Ferrari with an engine view. From what I can quickly recall the 360 spider is the only other model with an engine view, those before don’t and those after is all folding hard top
Excellent review. Thank you Doug
Paint the wall white - to enhance visibility
The fuel door and all the other buttons can probably be operated with the car in the accessory position. So you better hope the battery isnt dead. You can still run the accessories when out of fuel
F430 Spider MT

612 Scaglietti MT with Sunroof
DONE!
A beautiful classic 🤩
The Ferrari F430 is the most beautiful car of all Ferrari's in my own opinion. Great video Doug!
I just don't like the light Grey around the shifter(shifter boot) with a all Red interior; It really don't look factory ! But otherwise 10/10, I'll take this manual conversion over the F1 trans...
Its an aftermarket manual after all
@@oxfordbambooshootify I don't think It's a problem to put Red or Black lether around the shifter when you swap a trans lol
The "Off" button is actually to turn off the AC compressor....
He owned a 360 for a year and doesn’t know this? He’s make’s statements like this all the time. So clueless.
Doug’s excitement driving the car makes me excited 😂
"its always sunny in California" meanwhile theres torrential rain outside right now lol
Make video on Lamborghini 400gt
I remember when I first saw an F430 at a racetrack. That sound as it accelerated into the track's straightaway will be burned into my brain forever. Genuinely sounded like a spaceship accelerating to warp speed - at least, what I'd want one to sound like. I got the opportunity to ride in a Huracan that day. Incredible car to be sure - I kinda prefer it to the F430 - but it didn't sound even close to as good.
Miata has the best top. 2 seconds and flip that thing down. Pull it up in another 2 seconds. A marvel of engineering.
Frank Stephenson is that dude
The designer, yes.
Doug is the type of guy to make a second review of the Ferrari F430 Spider and delete the first one from 5-6 years ago. Making me spend all night looking for it. But it’s gone now. Why, why do you do this to me Doug?!
Doug, you’re the Top G, we love you and your reviews!
Also the electronic glove box release(and the others) are that way for security. If you parked with the top down no one can open your glove box, storage, or fuel door
Doug , you need more lighting when reviewing your cars in the garage...
Pls make a vid about who to buy what hybrid/EV 🙏
Like isn't a plug in hybrid more efficient on long trips too wn they say it can travel like 700 miles?
On the day hamilton goes to ferrari!
lol 😂 I was looking for the Lewis Hamilton comments
Man, I 'm dying for more garage talks. He's just an online used car salesman lately. I miss the intellectual car musings.
Thank you.
im not a fan of either
FYI Dan (normal guy super car) is no longer affiliated with EAG, they went their separate ways
So is this still a car review channel, or a "Here's What's on Cars and Bids" this week channel?
The perfect car(if i had the money)
No ev will ever replace that sound.
Seeing that these models are getting manual swaps. Makes them a lot more desirable for me.
I do like modern cars with DCT or a good automatic. But there'll always be something special about a true manual, 3 pedal, shift it yourself car.
This was a good sales video
God, I’ve been thinking of selling my gated 430, but this video and the Ferrari movie put that on ice. Can’t wait for spring to get it out again and roll those miles on.
My dream! Manual gearbox rocks!
I think off button is to turn of the air con compressor, its there when driver is about the thrash car he can trun off compressor to protect maybe
How is the clutch for the conversions? Do they still need to be replaced every 15k miles? Is there any good aftermarket clutches these cars can take to increase milage between replacements?
Doug is the type of guy to speed up a video 145%
Just so the clip ended at the exact moment he finished his sentence lol
This has to be a modern day classic. It’s one of my dream cars. And it’s wild still looks so modern.
The ignition is like that for safety on track not the lack of a proximity key
A man imported a Lada Riva from Serbia to Chicago and is selling it. I just read in our daily newspaper. This is an extraordinary curiosity. Maybe an interesting car for cars and bids. It is currently with Serbian plates and is in factory condition. It has only 45,000 km.
Greetings from Serbia
Doug releasing this video is the biggest Ferrari news today
Imho, the 360 Modena has always been the prettier and classier looking car. It's also aging much better than the F430, which has always looked like a cluttered mish-mash of different/stuck on design elements.
Ufff the sound of the ferraris engines ... sorry for Tesla fans but I dont care how fast in straight line goes the Plaid etc, this handle beautifull and the engine is a masterpiece and looks amazing.
Doug's covered by dream garage now..
manual 599 and manual F430.
I will achieve this goal.
Love that you name the manual 430 as your third favorite Ferrari behind the F50 and F40, but then you have the Scud at the end with a higher (the highest) Doug score. The Scud is the better car.
The off button isn’t for the AC compressor?
LITERALLY the only Ferrari I’ve ever wanted. The manual swap makes it even more appealing to me 😍
The stamped f430 symbol on the wing mirror is like the f40 stamp only being on one side of the f40 spoiler - it’s a nod to the fact that enzo ferrari apparently didn’t want to see the symbol going backwards and not forwards
Somebody bring Doug a great condition foxbody to review
Yes!
