I feel like repeatedly punking people like this is a great way to change the discourse online. Getting to the bottom of what is true has been increasingly a problem and a lot of it is caused by peoples lack of willingness to do even cursory research and checks on what they repeat to their audiences. Just appealing to these people isn't sufficient, i think they need stronger motivation, and avoiding this level of embarrassment is a great one. it's not even always done maliciously, people just can't be arsed to do the leg work, but either way I feel like this would be effective.
