Thank you! I will always cover new products fully when they release, more to show features than 'review' them. That's why I call them 'Overview & Features' and not reviews. I intend to have a good mixture of new products, comparisons like this one with the odd special video, perhaps talking to manufacturers or interviewing someone relevant. As long as nice people like you are watching I'll keep going and we'll find out what works. - John
Proper job, sir. I just ordered the B&W 706S3 due to New years sale. $1695 U.S. in store only. Going to try Wireworld speaker cables with them. Using the new Musical Fidelity A1 reissue Class A integrated. Thanks again.
Nice selection. I tested the Sonus and B&W's plus a couple of others no here. I ended up with the Triangle Comete 40ths. My room is quite small and I listen to mainly classical music and they had the most natural tone of the instruments and sound great at moderate volume. The KEFs and some of the others needed decent volume before they woke up.
Unfortunately not so you can't listen first, we do ship all over the UK from the website though if that helps. You can return if you don't like your purchase within 30 days (at your cost). - John
I've not had the pleasure of the Classic 3. I recently heard Audio Physic for the first time, we had a pair of Audio Physic Spark for the afternoon driven by some nice Cyrus gear. I must say they are tremendous! - John
So John, I ask this question to you personally. How do you think the Beolab 8s compare to any of the speakers on this list? I fully understand that I’m asking you to compare apples to oranges, but I love the design of B&O, but cannot find any genuine reviews of the 8s out there and I’m too far from a B&O dealership.
Honestly, if I was starting an audio system for myself judging on audio quality alone I would choose the Cyrus setup or something like a Naim Unity Atom and any of these speakers over Beolab 8. Particularly the B&W, Sonus Faber or the DALI. In fact my partner and I chose Cyrus and B&W 705 to use as our main system at home and she works for B&O! Our B&O kit now lives in the bedroom/office/kitchen. - John.
@@Peter-Tyson John, I can’t thank you enough for your honesty in this matter. I may consider some B&Ws and a nice amp instead of the Beolab 8s. And if/when I do decide, I’ll be sure to get what I can from Peter Tyson (so John, if your bosses are reading, you can demonstrate the value this channel brings in helping consumers decide and also generation of sales!) Many thanks
Great video from a brilliant company to deal with. I've spent nearly all my working life in retail and I know it can be a pain. Over the years I have bought and tried hifi from PT without any problems whatsoever. My last purchase was a pair of Kef R5’s. I’ve only just latched on to John’s videos and I think they make a refreshing change from the influencers that are all over TH-cam. It seems to me he gives an honest option of the products they sell, nothing is over egged or a must have and encourages you to have a listen for yourself. He freely admits that he is not personally a big fan of Kefs Uniq driver, yet they still sell loads. Personally, I'm not a fan of diesel cars, much prefer petrol, nothing wrong with either. Just personal choice.
@@Peter-Tyson No worries, totally deserved. Have you done any videos on the Q acoustics Concept 50 and the type of sound compared to the Kef R5s. My experience with speakers is very limited. I find the Kefs are a tad dry, or is that just me?
No it's not just you, I find KEF a little analytical and dry too. Lots of people love them though, it's all subjective. I've not actually heard the Concept 50 so can't comment. The other Q Acoustics I have heard have been consistently enjoyable though. - John.
B&W and Monitor Audio have very different sound signatures. In my experience the B&W are much more analytical and lively at the top end. Monitor Audio are a little warmer but more forceful at the bottom end. It all comes down to personal preference, I would have a listen first if you can. What amplifier / source are you using? - John
I’m currently using a Hegel H190, some times the 704’s can become a little fatiguing with certain types of music and more bass would be nice ,but I’m limited on space in my listening room so I’m not sure if the golds would over load my room with too much bass?
The bass is just as much dictated by your room shape and size, where the speakers are placed in relation to side walls, the wall behind them and how close to corners they are. To add to the fun, how close you sit to the speakers, to the back wall and to corners has just as much effect. Try it out, move around the room, even moving your head a few inches can drastically change the sound. Speaker placement is just as important as the speakers, if your hifi has a less desirable bass for instance just moving them or you slightly can help, some rooms sound amazing with very little effort, some sound terrible no matter what you do, it's all part of the chase for great sound. Too large a speaker in a small room can overload and sound boomy and tiresome, stand mount speakers can offer faster, more articulate bass at the cost of some depth. A small speaker in a large room can run out of steam quickly and sound weak. Try playing with placement if you can, if it's the overall sound of the speaker you're still not enjoying look at replacing with something different. If the B&W don't overload your room then I doubt the Monitor Audio will either. If the bass is too heavy, move the speakers away from the wall or use the port bungs to tone things down. Play around, try different things and have fun with it. At the end of the day the hifi should be there to let you enjoy your music and make you forget that's it's just sound pressure waves coming from a speaker. Sorry for the long answer, I hope that helped and didn't just make things worse for you! - John
thanks for taking the time to answer my question in great detail, it’s a shame I don’t have access to hear all the different speakers that your able to. The monitor audio gold 200’s 5G are currently on sale at a very tempting price but demoing these are almost impossible due to them being an end of line model, another speaker I’m curious about is the KEF R3 Meta 😅
Personally I would choose your 704 over the KEF. Lots of people love the KEF UniQ driver sound, I do not, although, of all the KEF speakers I've listened to the R3 are probably my favourite. The Gold 200 5G are a good speaker, and a good deal at the moment. petertyson.co.uk/monitor-audio-gold-5g-200-floor-standing-speakers If you want something really easy to listen to for hours that make voices and instruments sound natural then I highly recommend these..... petertyson.co.uk/sonus-faber-lumina-3-floorstanding-speakers

No gripe on any of these. But I just want to add I have enjoyed Monitor Audio speakers for years now. To me, the brand are easily in this league. thank you
I really like Monitor Audio, they feature in my other 2 comparison videos. I would have included the Gold 100 but they are £999, I included the Silver 200 instead last time. - John
