The side kick is called that because it's merely controlling the side chain compression. There's no audio output, but the transient information of the audio signal is being put into the limiter which is determining when the compressor is active. If you watch the limiter when the song is playing during parts where the side kick is active you can see the compression activate when the kick happens and duck the sound.

I suppose it wasn't. Bass Antics was published on youtube the 15th of August, 2012. Meanwhile, Impulse Gain was published on youtube the 28th. Still, if it were to be true; that Impulse Gain came first, Bass Antics would've been an Impulse Gain 2.0

Tahj Phoenix Impulse Gain was based on the Bass Antics project. Same mixing, same plugins, same patches, mostly. There are some differences and new things, but it's almost exactly the same project :)

you can silence the kick in the mixer ...
press on the mixer channel the kick is connected to and then disable it's channel send to the master channel.. (every channel in order to give volume is connected to the master channel , if you don't want a certain channel to give out volume you should disconnect it from the master channel)

The drums, as you see them in the playthrough, were rendered down into loops for the purposes of this pack. There are definitely kicks by themselves and I think one snare hit. The drum loops themselves are dry so that the mixer setup I used is still live. As well as the individual inserts where the samples were before bounced into a loop.

I usually build the bass sounds first and arrange the drop first. Every single thing that isn't bass, or the drop, is completely secondary :p

You have inspired me - I have FL Studio and I've been using Native Instruments plugins but you've really showed me that you can do tons with FL Studio plugins. The "End of the World" deal is going on right now, and I definitely want to get harmor and sytrus, but I'm thinking of getting maximus (so I can actually have some kind of mastering going on) and morphine as well, are these all wise choices or would suggest otherwise with that money?
