  • The Great Self Within: Anthropos and Pleroma in Gnostic Myth and Psychological Reality
In the mythic traditions of the human species, we find widespread reports of a Great Self that dwells within the human soul. Gnosticism gives us one of the most interesting examples of this spiritual phenomenon. Robert Moore addresses the psychological deep structures underlying Gnostic myths of the Anthropos (the supreme divinity) and the Pleroma. Parallels with Jung's understanding of the collective unconscious and the archetypal Self are examined and discussed in terms of their clinical and spiritual significance.

39:15 "attempt to domesticate the divine" - I would add they try to *conceptualize* the divine, which is saying the same thing in a different way. I believe that conceptualizing the divine is what was originally meant by idolatry.

This guy really helps me in the most efficient way. I love his economy of words. We need more balanced communication about complex concepts.
Does anyone know if he’s still alive?
And is he related to Thomas Moore by chance (author of Care of the Soul)?

No, he died in 2016. And nope actually Thomas Moore and Robert Moore are not related, both great Jungian authors though

@@RobertLouisMoore thank you for the reply. I looked it up and saw the controversy around his death. Very sad regardless of how it all transpired. I hope his family and his wife’s family were able to find solace in some way, my condolences.

@@yogamac yes, i agree. It is very sad.
I will add my condolences to the family. I have never met any of them..
I stumbled upon his work only many years after Robert and Margaret passed away.
I spoke with my childhood priest Ron Rolheiser about Robert Moore. Because i discovered that apparently they were friends. Father Ron seemed very turned off by the idea of talking to me about Robert, though. He sort of shied away from it. He said Robert "really went downhill toward the end there" referring to dementia, etc.
Shortly after i began posting these lectures on youtube, a couple years ago(?) Eivind F Skjellum at the Reclaim your inner throne youtube channel interviewed Dr. Moore’s niece Marina, and the narrative began to change quite a bit. Thanks to Marina and Eivind!! th-cam.com/video/3V3bTkByAM8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AoOv2BNU-OJ47QMp
All I've ever really said I know for certain is that, whatever happened, it does not invalidate his work. I think everything he was speaking and writing about is true. I still think so

Robert is a bit polarising with his politics and views on society, I would have expected him to be more open to seeing both sides, after all that is the very essence of individuation

Can anyome point me to written or TH-cam resources where Moore talks more about the themes during the QnA, e.g., species level identity?

What comes to mind is the Facing the dragon book, as well as the lectures to the Mankind project, the Minnesota mens movement, and Oblate school of theology.
Most importantly i think every single mythic story that is referenced throughout the five books coauthored by Moore and Gillette are in fact originally meant to be seen from this perspective.
