If no need to remove the engine why the you work on is removed
Do you know there is no space to use the tool when the engine on the car

Easy job with engine out but without removing engine it's a nightmare especially on 654 engines

Same issue and mechanic is suggesting me its pressure pump is leaking and not sure if need to remove whole engine to replace it

The V6 Diesel Mercedes have problems with High pressure fuel pump. You don‘t need to replace it. Take it out and you will see from the inside some bolts that get loose with time and mileage. You just have to tight these bolts and reinstall the high pressure pump again.
