I love your thought processes, C.A. I've always been a tinkerer when it comes to fishing tackle. Out of all that tinkering come some of the best lures ever created.

CA, Nicky here. Love the idea of the shrink wrap.
For the last number of years I have been trying to dial in the perfect tarpon plug. I have experimented with single hooks, circle hooks, trebles, you name it. Singles, doubles, triple hooks, I have tried it all. It is interesting as (in my experience) the circle hook has the worst hook up ratio when plug fishing for tarpon. Bait fishing is obviously a different story. Also, the single hook in the front or the back of the plug whether it be a circle or a jay does not work as well as the double treble hooks, which seems very counterintuitive. You talked about dealing with less hooks when the fish in boat side, which is great, but id like to pick your brain on hook up ratio because (in my experience) two saltwater trebles are way more effective than singles or circle hooks. Love to hear your thought. Thanks

Hey Captain just watch ur Custom Tarpon Plug modification . With the 27 size and the altered hook point .How about a tiny split shot , just squeezed onto the opening of the eye on the rear eyelet , and srink tube over it to make it stream line ?.Once installed you could test in sink or pool if available. Thus removing a loose swinging object from snagging or impairing a arm or sleeve .While handling a upset big girl ! " Not sure " if this will work . But a hook simultaneous in fish and hand is definitely NO FUN LOL

Nick you definitely need them to eat it, and I do miss a few. But the treble hook versions seem to allow tarpon to throw the plug quite a bit. I generally only land 1-5 of the treble version then I’ve got to try and release the fish with that mousetrap in his maw. If you use the 7/0 circle especially if it’s a Trokar... you’ll do alright. I just love flying tarpon, landing them is just a bonus for me. Tell your Pops I said hello and I’m a big fan of your Millhouse Podcast!

@@jamesgrissom3750 If you're looking for reliable results on sink rates, be careful when testing sink rates in a freshwater pool vs. in saltwater environments as the two have different specific gravities. A lure will sink more quickly in fresh than in saltwater, and varying differences of saline will give you different results in sink rates.

@@Lees920 ² Absulity big difference I failed to consider that. Thank you .I was thinking of how to swap the rear hook wt, with a non nonsnagable item that weighed the same as the rear hook. As A Mr, C A was demonstrating in his video.

Cool mod, didn't see that coming. Will try it on various lures. A redhead Mirrodine XL survived a 15, a 16 and a 21 pound peacock before the rear hook hanger pulled out. One question, have you ever had the line tie pull out? I've modded Mirrodines with longer screw eyes superglued in.

Can I substitute the tail hook for balance for a small split shot, so I don't get confused with the sensation of have hooked, and the fish is actually pulling on the balance hook?

So you are just doing slow steady retrieve? No walk the dog or any Jenkins at all? Going to fish mullet run for first time this year and really want to get a tarpon and big snook so trying to cram as much information as possible in next few weeks. Thanks in advance!

Captain C.A. I am asking a dumb question- does tarpon need to be on top of the water visible? Are you sight fishing?. I would like try from my boat but have never attempted to fish for tarpon in coastal Sc. maybe another video would cover this.
    Thanks, Larry

Do those baits have hollow cavities like Super Strike lures? If so, drill a hole in the belly and load them with #8 bird shot or mineral oil and seal the hole with epoxy. Makes a rattle and enhances the cast ability.
