If i am legally allowed to broadcast on a frequency at a particular power level, I do NOT want some pirate station to interfere with my legal bandwidth. The airwaves must be regulated to control radiation patterns and protect a persons right to broadcast. If this was not accomplished, the broadcast spectrum would be anarchy and no-one would be assured of a clean listening experience. I support FCC regulation of the public broadcast spectrum. I ran a small station years ago....2 watts through homebrew folded dipole...got about 8kms clear with quite a few listeners....Im comin back on the air soon with 100 watts of power and gonna do just like you are with local young people trying to get their music out. a hella lot better than these young people goin out gettin in trouble.
this video breaks my heart the most, it was uploaded just days after i found your videos! your station plays such wonderful music and makes me want to find a way myself to get that music out to people to listen to, it's a waste if good music is out there but not getting to anybody!
Dang, It would be nice to convince somebody to give people more opportunity for using their own radio frequency. I think its way creative to know how to use radios like that.
p1r4t3z all it takes is someone that knows your station is unlicensed to file a complaint to the FCC. I agree, a portion of the spectrum should be allocated to microbroadcast stations. Commercial stations can file complaints as well if someone quotes your station has having better programming than their station. They look at it as you're taking away their revenue. Getting a license is tough, applicants have to be a religious organization and available FM channels are scarce in some areas.
Its interesting that I was able to operate a Part15 station on 93.9FM for 4 years without getting any letters in the mail. I took my station off the air and went online only a few years ago, but I now have the same issue with the harmonics in the area. 94.3 has a spike on 93.9FM now, so that station is now unusable.
Cant believe licensed stations actually have harmonics and spurs this also happened to me there's a local station 500 metres away producing harmonics at 88 MHz, 96.3 MHz and 108 MHz. Luckily 98.5 MHz is not affected. They shouldve used a proper filter.
When I was younger, I built a FM transmitter also. Had a lot of fun too until I turn the transmitter over to a friend who got busted within an hour of operation. Glad it wasn't me>>>
Hey p1r4t3z, I think they found you through their "new" network of semi-automated listening stations; allegedly the system can pinpoint the transmitter better than the triangulation vehicles the used to have. The trick is, because there are so few FCC agents, it may take weeks or months until a blue goon can come out to the alleged site, so having a mobile studio could finally be an asset.

hey man in here in kentucky and thinking about doing what you are ive always wanted to do a pirate radio station and was wondering about your set up you only transmit a few miles right??? well i think by law you can transmit up to 2 miles by law with a small transmitter so tell me will a small cb antenna work as my antenna im sure it will.... i would like to know your input on this thanks man

We tried that in massachustetts.. It took only 3 months when "compettion" snitch ratted everyone out.. LUCKLY they just shutdown without taking the equipment..

This is an old footage. However, what you tell is good but Laws are exiting and should be of course respected. For a small radio: how much does it cost to get the license? At the end you have some sponsor, or you can have some found by some donor, and with the income, you can pay out some fee for a small power for local emission.

sorry to see you got that letter, i run a small pirate radio station running around 2-5 watts (my choice) every now and then with no set time frame, many people in south florida have received that same letter don't let them take that transmitter, it looks like its 10 watts or more! by the way another radio station probably complained.
I have tried to apply at FFC.gov and the website quotes I am in an area where there are no open channels that are not co-channel or 5 channels bumper zone with other local stations. There just isn't many FM channels in the USA. 200 channels and too many 10Kw staions make it hard to get a decent antenna site without being in a zone where your too close to other LPFM, comercial or educational stations. AM broadcast band has many open freqs for local class C broadcast. 1230, 1240, 1340, 1400 KHz

Yes, it's a cost thing, among other things. First, the FCC doesn't issue licenses to individual people, only groups/organizations such as LLCs, school districts, and whatnot. Why? I don't know. Second, you have to have an attorney to draw up the paperwork necessary to apply for a license, and a lot of people don't have the money for an attorney retainer. Third, you have to go through all kinds of rigamarole having to do with the frequency survey for the frequency you want to broadcast on, and for that, you have to hire an engineering firm to perform the said survey. The frequency you want may not be open. Then, they'll want to see your business model (how are you going to generate the revenue necessary to keep the station on the air once it's up and running), etc., etc., etc. There is a mountain of obstacles from concept to sign-on.
Im a fan of alternative music of all kinds, and getting it heard. I listen to everything from music from the 60s up onto indie underground music made today. My taste also covers a huge amount of genres. I think the mainstream SUCKS. Im also heavily into electronics with RADIO being my main interest. You are a role model and a hero to me man. You need to make more videos, so we can all learn from you. Such a shame that the station had to go off. Take care!
