Most people don’t understand the passion and hard work that’s involved in restoring vintage audio gear. My collection keeps growing because no one wants to pay the price for hours of work before the sun even rises, the cost of quality replacement components and the items’ value in the first place. I hope that most people are just ignorant to the facts of a restored radio, because most offers are insulting

When I was growing up, Dad did woodworking as a hobby and he was very good at what he did. People were all the time asking him to build things; but, when he quoted them a price, they near about fainted and decided they didn't want him to do the work. These people thought that since he did it as a hobby, then he should do it for less than what something from "Particleboard Discount Furniture World" would cost and he used to say, "I guess these people think that my tools and lumber are all free." It finally got to the point that when someone would ask him to build something, he'd tell them that he didn't have time to fool with it.

I've got a 1962 Motorola 4 speed 3 channel tube record player that someone had given me and all i had to do to it was clean and relube the turntable mechanism and replaced the original Sonotone 9T cartridge with a Sonotone 16T cardtridge and it works perfectly yet with it's original filter can cap and it's original mylar caps in it.

You sold it. Excellent. I think that, at the same time, more people care about quality; and also fewer people do. Those two variables rise and fall in ways unknown to most I suspect, (not to say that you don't know). Some times the ignorance-to-value ratio (if you will) is extremely depressing but then you see something like people getting into complex analog kit projects. Or things like nice buttons and indicators, and I mean REALLY nice ones. I don't know what it all means for the future but I do know that some videos about this can get people hungry for something better then what they've got. One shouldn't be embarrassed if they bought a croxley and then wanted something better once they realize what they could have.
I'd have one of these record players you sell but I was financially finished off recently. I'll be back.

Wifes name and pic. Mark here. There are those of us that will pay for Quality. I'd rather buy American redone , rebuilt, remanufactured. Don't get down on what a few say. I considered your record player, looks nice sounds nice, redone so its reliable, then happily saw it sold. Way to go and please keep it up. Even in regards to expensive RVs people want to get the cheap tools or parts. Quality!!

I applaude your stand in your price of your record player and you are right you get what you pay for I took electronics as a vocational course in High School back in the late 50s and through life was an automobile mechanic but since I retired Ive taken up computer repair and building and know very well what yor knowledge is worth so you stand your ground on your price and when I put a computer up for resale I put my price on it and like you there it is if you want it buy it if you dont then dont try to haggle me on my price I know what my time and knowledge is worth

Hold out on your price, Motorola made high quality products and some smart person will buy it. You always get what you pay for. ( Cheap is expensive.)

If I had a larger collection of 78's I would gladly pay your price on that record player. It sure sounds good. However, most of the old 78's that my wife inherited were damaged by a relative who packed them away with the same amount of care that most ebay sellers do when they ship things, so we have a large collection of unplayable records :-( Oh well........

Yes, those 78's are very fragile. I've had some snap on me, despite me trying to be careful with them.

Shouldn't these radios work fine down to at least 65 volts? A 60 cell 90v carbon zinc battery would put down to 60 volts before dying (about .99v per cell). One assumes the radios were built to utilize all of the electric potential in the batteries.

I'm guessing this was recorded months ago. Running my air conditioner and celebrating July 4th are far from my mind right now. I'm more interested in building a bonfire, or at least a fire in the fireplace.

I had an RCA Orthophonic 4 speed pretty high quality record player that I restored and put a lot of time into and tried to sell it for $60 but ended up selling it in an auction for $20.

The LM317T have both built in overcurrent and over temperature protection built into them.

Hey RTPN, will you please post a video showing the schematic that you used for this battery eliminator?

If you can't get what you want out of it, part it out. You'll probably get more out of it that way.

LM1117 is a better option for a 1.5 volt regulator since they make them in a 1.5 volt version (LM1117-1.5) which makes it easier.

Weller irons AND guns are garbage, couldn't agree more. The best bet is to go to ham swap meets and stock up on cheap, antique irons. Second best bet...Hakko.

You can't sell stuff if you don't sell it. You are selling stuff as "not working, for parts only.." Who wants to pay 115 plus 25 shipping for "not working, parts only?"
It needs to be "great condition. Refurbished back to factory specs Motor disassembled and lubricated. Faulty electronics components replaced with high quality modern components" Really UPSELL that AC motor. The weight. The build quality. The tube amplifier. The new cartridge. You need fluff!
    At the very bottom:
*due to the age of this item, it is being sold as is with no warranty whatsoever. Make sure to check my feedback. For other examples of my work, feel free to check the yt channel radiotvphononut

Problem with that, if you list it as "used" on ebay you are liable for it being working and any damage the buyer doesn't like and you're left sitting on the cost. If you list it as "parts only" you aren't.
