I'm not a Freemason but I do confer 2 degrees in the Orange Order I degree in the Royal Arch Purple Chapter and 11 degrees in the Royal Black Institution which are Protestant Fraternal Orders based mainly over here in Northern Ireland but with Lodges, Chapters and Preceptories in other parts of the world including USA and Canada. Because of this I have a keen interest in worldwide Fraternal Orders including USA home grown ones that only have lodges in the USA eg Elks,Moose. I have visited the Masonic grand lodge hall in London,England and Dublin Eire and they were very impressive. Really enjoyed the video,very informative.

Our primary requirement for membership, is a belief in a supreme being, responsible for the creation of the universe. We do not mind what religion a man is as it is irrelevant. What is the "Great Architect"? The Great Architect is not an actual deity. It is a name that anyone may use to represent their deity. Muslims say "Great Architect" and they mean Allah. Christians say it and they mean God. Jews will say it and they mean Yahweh etc. It's a generic name for any deity in order to exclude nobody from our meetings. @Matthew G we all do rituals. For example, the average guy gets outta bed, takes a pee, has a shower, has breakfast, dresses, goes to work, comes home, watches TV, has dinner and goes to bed. That's a ritual. A ritual is just a series of events which are repeated. In Freemasonry, we use these rituals to convey certain moral lessons and by making them ritualistic, it ensures that the same messages are conveyed in the same way to all men. It's not weird at all. Granted, some of the things we do LOOK weird.. but when taken in context and explained, they are not. For example, when a man is going through his Degrees, he will bare his lower leg. This is an ancient tradition. In ancient times, men who had been convicted of a crime were placed in manacles... they would cut and scar the flesh. In order to join Freemasonry, a man must have had no prior criminal convictions...so if a man bares his lower leg and there are no scars... he is free from convictions! Now of course, that no longer applies, but it is a tradition and we are big on tradition. There is also another reason for baring the knee. When a man takes his obligation, he kneels on his knee while ha has his hand on his chosen holy book. The knee is then in physical contact with the Lodge room and therefore the Lodge as a whole. The “rituals” or degrees are basically just plays that are put on and the candidates for the degrees are included in the play but they don’t know what is happening so they are learning as the play unfolds and afterwards they sit in a lecture for more lessons. What is taught? Well it all has to do with mans moral development and how we interact with others (as in Gods commandments; love HIM first and foremost, and treat others as you would like to be treated; Fraternity, Charity and Hope). The main thing about Freemasonry is that the teachings are mostly in allegories as Jesus taught his disciplines and followers. We use the tools of stone masons symbolically to work on ourselves and go from rough stone (a regular man) to a polished and square stone (a better man) that can be used to build a better society or world. You would be surprised at how inspiring the degrees can be when taken with the right reasons. The real secrets aren’t really the degrees or anything like that, the real secrets are the things that come out of you as you learn about yourself and how you relate to the world and especially your brethren. Freemasonry isn’t a religion, it’s a way of life that includes moral guidance through your own belief in God and the teachings of the Bible or other religious books. Freemasonry accepts people of all religions that believe in a single deity. An atheist can’t be a Freemason because they don’t believe in God, which is a prerequisite. What you hear about Freemasonry that has to do with goats or devil worshipping or other nonsense is false and just plain ignorance of people who don’t want to know or expect Freemasonry to open to everyone. The “secrets” that you learn as you progress are kept secret so that we can keep that aura of mystery. As you progress through the degrees and the “secrets” are revealed you usually want to work towards learning more, but you soon learn that the learning never ends and that’s the beauty of the journey. The masons don't say this outright but it is a psuedo-science after sacred geometry which is fascinating in itself, and a philosophy based on Kaballah which the Jews brought back from Babylon. I'm not a Freemason but I do confer 2 degrees in the Orange Order I degree in the Royal Arch Purple Chapter and 11 degrees in the Royal Black Institution which are Protestant Fraternal Orders based mainly over here in Northern Ireland but with Lodges, Chapters and Preceptories in other parts of the world including USA and Canada. Because of this I have a keen interest in worldwide Fraternal Orders including USA home grown ones that only have lodges in the USA eg Elks,Moose. I have visited the Masonic grand lodge hall in London,England and Dublin Eire and they were very impressive. Really enjoyed the video,very informative.

What do Masons believe? Well the short answer to that is that Masonry isn't a belief system, like a religion, so we don't have a collective "belief". What binds us, is a desire for moral self-improvement and to help others. Our primary requirement for membership, is a belief in a supreme being, responsible for the creation of the universe. We do not mind what religion a man is as it is irrelevant.
What is the "Great Architect"? The Great Architect is not an actual deity. It is a name that anyone may use to represent their deity. Muslims say "Great Architect" and they mean Allah. Christians say it and they mean God. Jews will say it and they mean Yahweh etc. It's a generic name for any deity in order to exclude nobody from our meetings.

@Matthew G we all do rituals. For example, the average guy gets outta bed, takes a pee, has a shower, has breakfast, dresses, goes to work, comes home, watches TV, has dinner and goes to bed. That's a ritual. A ritual is just a series of events which are repeated. In Freemasonry, we use these rituals to convey certain moral lessons and by making them ritualistic, it ensures that the same messages are conveyed in the same way to all men. It's not weird at all. Granted, some of the things we do LOOK weird.. but when taken in context and explained, they are not.
For example, when a man is going through his Degrees, he will bare his lower leg. This is an ancient tradition. In ancient times, men who had been convicted of a crime were placed in manacles... they would cut and scar the flesh. In order to join Freemasonry, a man must have had no prior criminal convictions...so if a man bares his lower leg and there are no scars... he is free from convictions! Now of course, that no longer applies, but it is a tradition and we are big on tradition.
There is also another reason for baring the knee. When a man takes his obligation, he kneels on his knee while ha has his hand on his chosen holy book. The knee is then in physical contact with the Lodge room and therefore the Lodge as a whole. It underpins a man's loyalty to the Lodge.

The “rituals” or degrees are basically just plays that are put on and the candidates for the degrees are included in the play but they don’t know what is happening so they are learning as the play unfolds and afterwards they sit in a lecture for more lessons. What is taught? Well it all has to do with mans moral development and how we interact with others (as in Gods commandments; love HIM first and foremost, and treat others as you would like to be treated; Fraternity, Charity and Hope). The main thing about Freemasonry is that the teachings are mostly in allegories as Jesus taught his disciplines and followers. We use the tools of stone masons symbolically to work on ourselves and go from rough stone (a regular man) to a polished and square stone (a better man) that can be used to build a better society or world. You would be surprised at how inspiring the degrees can be when taken with the right reasons. The real secrets aren’t really the degrees or anything like that, the real secrets are the things that come out of you as you learn about yourself and how you relate to the world and especially your brethren. Freemasonry isn’t a religion, it’s a way of life that includes moral guidance through your own belief in God and the teachings of the Bible or other religious books. Freemasonry accepts people of all religions that believe in a single deity. An atheist can’t be a Freemason because they don’t believe in God, which is a prerequisite. What you hear about Freemasonry that has to do with goats or devil worshipping or other nonsense is false and just plain ignorance of people who don’t want to know or expect Freemasonry to open to everyone. The “secrets” that you learn as you progress are kept secret so that we can keep that aura of mystery. As you progress through the degrees and the “secrets” are revealed you usually want to work towards learning more, but you soon learn that the learning never ends and that’s the beauty of the journey. Hope that this helped you understand a little better what Freemasonry is about.

No. Masons take oaths not to reveal the secrets of masonry. Read page 34 and 35 of Duncan's Rituals of Freemasonry. It describes the brutal obligation of the Entered Apprentice (1st degree). Jesus in the Bible said to "swear not at all" (read Matthew 5:34).
Freemasonry is a "perpetuation of the philosophical mysteries and initiations of the ancients" (pg. 1 of The Lost Keys of Freemasonry by 33deg freemason Manly P Hall) all of whom worshiped the sun/osiris/mithra/the light/lucifer. The mason's "most worshipful master resides in the east" where the sun rises.
