Henri would have said that, yes, Jesus is the archetype of Belovedness. But then he would point out that Jesus gives everything that he knows and is, to us. He would quote Scripture: "As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. . . . I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. . . ." John 15:9 Jesus doesn't force his belovedness on us. It's a choice: accept or reject this promise, that we are made in God's image.
How can anyone say this man did not know God? So easy to get caught up in dogma and "theological correctness." Get our of your head. There are some people--you read their objections and need to be right.....one can only imagine them falling to absolute jelly and peeing their pants when they meet Jesus and realize how unexpectedly loving and nonjudgmental he is.

@Lucasgerrit Its ok. Lots of people have a hard time accepting that they are loved by God. God loves you... you are beloved.

@davidpetry I know that I am beloved because I am in Christ; but I am not The Beloved and Henri Nouwen misses the mark there.
