  • From 1st July 1996, Robbie Vincent announces the end of 'Newstalk 1152' and the start of 'LBC 1152'. The changeover includes a montage of news events since 1973 as covered by LBC
In 1993 the original LBC Radio lost it's license and got into financial trouble. The winners of the licence took over the company and relaunched the stations as 'London News' and 'London Newstalk'
In 1996 after a change in shareholding in the company the MW station was relaunched again, this time as 'LBC 1152'

FM/AM went through some ridiculous & totally unnecessary name changes from 1989 up to 1996, it should have been left as LBC 97.3 & LBC 1152.

Some appalling world events between '73 and '96 but who would have thought that after this we would have 9/11, 7/7, Boris and Jacob followed by Liz and Jacob running the country, and a global pandemic?

So it IS London Broadcasting Company!
Leading Britain's Conversation always thought that sounded like some made up nonsense.

It *was* the London Broadcasting Company originally until 1993 when they lost their license and got bought by another company.
They brought 'LBC" back as a brand in 1996.
'Leading Britain's Conversation' is their slogan, before it went national it was 'London's Brightest Conversation'

@@LuthansaTerminal I didn't know that but I'm glad they got the LBC brand back. They are awful slogans, I mean just feels a bit forced. And I'm not convinced that LBC is really a radio station for Britain; it's a London station. Whatever about DAB or the Global app, the only place you can receive LBC through the air is in London and it will always be a London station.

How did L.B.C. get thier broadcasting rights back. How did [the then] The I.B.A. allow this? New Forest radio fan.

They didn't. The company that won the license bought LBC but ditched the name when the new license started. In 1996 they decided to relaunch with the name LBC, which of course they still owned

@@LuthansaTerminal Many thanks. What year did L.B.C. go national. I thought it was 2003 on Sky Digitial and 2014 on the internet and app. Many thanks.
