    Don't apologize! Some of us appreciate the in depth review. I've been looking at this, the Hosim 2845, the WLToys 144001, and the Traxxas 1/16 E-Revo. With the more budget friendly RC cars being as good as they are, it's getting really hard to justify spending more on the Traxxas MERV. Thank you for your time and work that was involved publishing this video!

      Hiya Mike and thank you so much for your kind words. Yes you are right concerning the quality in the budget brands. I've not been drawn towards the Traxxas brand since seeing someone who spent 2 times more than the ZD Racing BX-8E I was driving at the time and theirs was so slow, like a little toy. Not sure what it was but like most things, you don't pay more for higher speed, you pay for the brand name. I couldn't afford them when starting this channel so bought 2 x 144001. One for my son and one for myself. One of them is still running after hitting it against a 1000 walls and curbs. The second was the star that flew out of the 5th floor Hotel window. You can in most cases buy three 144001, have one standard, one brushless and one for spare parts and it's roughly the same prices as the brand names. 😉
      Thanks again for the kind words and I wish you a lovely evening. 😊👍

    Good morning John. The sound is normal. The “grinding” noise is the ring and pinion clicking together as the magnets in the motor pass from magnet to magnet. You can “cushion” the sound with grease. If the motor is adjustable you can decrease the lash, that will decrease the time the pinion has to build momentum, thereby decrease the noise.
    I’m not sure what battery you got but a LiPo with a higher C rating will get you wheelies.
    Oil filled shocks will help a lot. The type of plastic makes the difference. The more flex the less breakage.
    The size of the motor isn’t the problem, it’s the KV rating. Put the 2845 3930KV motor in using in the WLtoys 144001 in it and it will fly. 😃
    I just ordered two of these and three different KV motors so if you want to follow along I’ll be doing a lot of comparisons between stock and the other motors.
    Have a fabulous day! Cheers!

      Good morning buddy. Thank you for all that valuable information. It for sure was a little quieter and as I tear it apart I will get to know it. It was a fun little car like you said it would be! :-) Ill have a look at the motor in detail. I think an upgrade in battery will be the key for sure. I will be watching your channel with interest as I have a alot to learn about the motors, esc etc and you have it all! Have a great day! Stay safe! 😉😎

      John Robinson thanks for the kind words and your support. I thought you would like it. It’s really a great entry car. You really should get a set of those paddle tires I used at the sand dunes. They are amazing in sand and snow.
      BTW: I ordered a brushless and brushed version to show the difference then I’ll mod the brushed version to see if it’s faster than the stock brushless. I plan to track the prices. If the stock brushless isn’t fast enough it may be cheaper overall to buy the brushed version and upgrade it.
      I won’t know until I try. We learn as we go. 😃

    Thanks John. Just stripped mine and managed to get the diff open. No loctite on them just quite stiff. There is a reasonable amout of grease in there but I packed it out and greased everything else. Remo shocks and now it pulls so much better. Such a noticeable differance. Managed to smash my custom shell and the one that came with it. Also got my Tamiya Brat back on the road today which I have put a sport can in. Thanks for the video.
    By the way the car pulls wheelies now, hence braking the bodies. Also wd40 on the tyres for 5 mins. I am looking at other tyres for it but there isnt many videos of people doing this.

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hiya and all that sounds good with the grease etc. Not good about the shells. Wheelies though are always fun. What do you use wd-40 on the wheels for may I ask? 🤔

    • @cybertontos
      @cybertontos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JohnRobinsonRC the tyres are quite firm I find. Soaking with wd40 softens them up loads. Try it. 24 hours is the max, some people soak thrm in a bag overnight, however if you do it too long the tyres can start to swell so I just sprayed them and massaged them and then left them for 5 or 10 mins then dryed them off. Quite a big difference in grip o tarmac and especially laminate type floors.

    • @cybertontos
      @cybertontos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The revo shocks make a big differance on all surfaces although they do seem quite high mainanence as the shaft is alloy and does get bent on most outings although I do give it some hell at the skate park.
      Have you tried this on 3s. There are a few videos of people doing this. Im worried about longevity so have not attempted it.

    Nice video John! Looks like a nice car. You’re right, the 144 seems more hobby grade. But this looks like it’s close. Maybe with some aluminum upgrade parts and a higher KV motor it will change your mind? Have a great weekend!!

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good morning jjtsht, hope you are well? Yes you could upgrade some parts to metal and upgrade the motor but then if you do the same to the 144001 to make it a fair fight. Then the 144001 is still better value for money. I assume a lot of people are like me when looking for a budget entry level rc car. What's the best bang for your buck and I still lean towards the 144001. You get a lot of car for your money. But let's see what the head to head shows up as without doubt the Q903's diff and drive shafts are better quality. 😊 Have an awesome day today! 😁👍

    Yeah, I'm back again comparing these two cars. I've also come across the Hosim 9156 that looks like the big brother to the Hosim/Xinlehong Q903. Kind of like the Rustler 4x4 to the E-Revo. If there was someone I wish had a review of the Hosim 9156, it's you, John. I think HBX has a variant of it also, but I can't recall the 5 digit model number. It only comes as a brushed model, but pop a 3650 3500kv, 3900kv, or 4300kv brushless in it with a 60A ESC and I think it may be a Rustler 4x4 VXL killer at less than $200 USD. I should just pull the trigger on the WLToys 144001, do the brushless upgrade, and be done with it, but I like the look of the Hosim/Xinlehong Q903, Hosim 9156, E-Revo, and Rustler 4x4 so much better.

      Just another follow up. The Hosim version of the Q903 with the 2845 brushless motor just went on a Lightning deal on Amazon US for under $120 USD (normally $139.99) and an additional $10 coupon. I'll have it by Friday for less that $120, including tax. At that price, I couldn't say no.

Saying that I have come across several forum threads and videos and in my opinion I would buy the Q901 just because its appears to be better quality in all areas. I think you will be happier with the speed as well because it should be a little faster. Have a great day! Kind regards, John. 😊

      Hiya nok. Depending on how hard you drive your car it can last from 7-16 minutes. Maybe even longer. If you want longer driving time then either get another battery like what you have said or a battery with a higher mAh figure. The problem is that the Q901 does not have a lot of room for a larger battery. So I would just buy a second or third original battery. Have a lovely evening. Kind regards, John. 😊👍

      @JohnRobinsonRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya and thanks for the comment and you are right to be concerned, however not worried. Follow a few simple steps like these.
      1. Charge away from everything else. For example, do not charge on top of loads of news papers. Charge on a floor with nothing else around.
      2. Do not charge if the battery is damaged or the charger is damaged. Not worth the risk.
      3. If you can, buy a safety bag to store you batteries. They are worth the few pounds they cost.
      4. When you aren't going to use for a while then make sure you discharge them to about 30%. Or buy a charger that has a "storage" setting.
      5. And lastly. If you are still worried. Charge the battery in a metal box or bucket (without water 😂) as a little extra safety.
      Have a lovely evening. Kind regards, John. 😊

      Hiya. Yes you can increase run time by purchasing a battery with larger mAh. NOT volts or cells. So stay at 2s 7.4v but increase to 2000 or even 3000mAh battery as long at it fits. Any higher and you are carrying a lot more weight around that will then reduce running time. So sometimes it's better having 2 smaller batteries to have a longer running time. Have a lovely evening. Good morning. To be honest out of the cars you mention I only own the Q903. I never recommend a product I have not tried myself so it's hard for me to answer your question. What I can say is that the Q903 is an awesome little truck with great speed and quality. It even went in the sea and after a lot of wd-40 it survived!

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. There are no hex's on the Q901, Q902 or Q903. This means as long as you buy wheels and hex's with the same size, for example 12mm hex and wheels, then you can fit what you wish. Don't go smaller than 8mm though as the pins will not fit. 😉👌ibb.co/z5GmS9C

Yes the 144001 it a great car but as I just wrote on another comment, the Q903 for sure has better and higher quality diffs and drive shafts so I recon the head to head may show up a few surprises! 😁 I'm going to have to get to the head to head video ASAP I think. 😂 😂 Have an awesome day today! Hiya Erika and welcome! Yes you can get parts for it on both Ebay and Aliexpress.com . Make sure you check Ebay first as you may be lucky and have a local suppliers but be warned, many sellers say they have the items in your country or in Europe for example and they are not, they are shipped from China anyway. So if you can wait then use Aliexpress and pay for their fasted shipping. Good luck and if you need any more help, please just ask. Have a great day. Kind regards, John.

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning Allen. I am assuming that you aren't talking about using the supplied charger? I recently tested the Imax b6 mini charger and so far have used it on all my 2s to 4s batteries and it's brilliant! It's hard for me to recommend anything else as I haven't tested anything else. 🤔😉 If you are interested I have put the link below. What I would say is, please use a lipo charging bag as they help prevent a fire and also make sure when you are using them to store them correctly. Once again in the storage bag. One last thing. Make sure you buy an original charger which I can confirm I did receive from this link. 😉 👍 Have a great day! Kind regards, John. 😊 www.banggood.com/custlink/GmGRVyZ4ju
