I just saw a rerun of this episode on tv and they had cut out a scene. There is a part where the lifeguard thought it was a cobra and he was trying to charm the snake and he was using a snorkel to play music and he was playing snake charming music on his phone! 😂

Snakes come under government protection here in Australia. These guys would face dismissal and legal charges if they killed one.
Sea snakes are very placid and only aggressive during mating. Otherwise any bites are from their removal from fishing nets. They have very tiny fixed fangs. Great rescue.
The hook nosed sea snake has been known to be aggressive but yeah most sea snakes just don’t bite defensively
Oddly enough The Hoff looked bigger and more menacing on the beach than in the rehab tank.

@@better_together-w4m There aren't any. All species of sea snakes are venomous. They are in the family Elapidae, and they're related to cobras, kraits, and mambas. (Jan Griffiths).

Doug is incorrect. The turtle headed sea snake is the only known non venomous elapid.

After being a firefighter for 36 years in Cambridge Ma. I still appreciate a good rescue. Keep up the great work. Hearing you guys talk reminds me of the friends I have in Australia and puts a great big smile on my face thanks.

Got chased over rocks at Kavieng by a banded sea snake. I was more afraid that day than getting red bellied black out of neighbors house at night.

Sea snakes are not aggressive, have very short fangs and their venom output is small.
The venom itself is apparently very potent, though.

The fangs on sea snakes are very small, so small that there is little risk to humans as generally the fangs cannot reach out far enough to penetrate the skin and effectively inject the venom, so the bag would be fine (generally). That said, yeah screw that, I ain’t coming close to that thing….
@@thomasm3170 This, plus the fact that it was exhausted and that most Sea Snakes are generally placid, only really becoming aggressive during mating or if under extreme amount of stress, with energy to spare (fishing nets is the biggest cause of bites when trying to release them). Usually can hold them, so long as you show no sign of being a threat, they'll relax and be fine (though do want to keep swimming)
You should have called the reptile park to see if they wanted to milk him before releasing it. That's how the antivenom is made
Id say the aquarium did that whilst he was in their cage
I’m not sure there is an anti venom for that snake.

They can bite people. Any snake can bite, even my gentle and timid ball pythons. They may not be inclined to bite, but they need to be handled as any other venomous snake. (Jan Griffiths).

I found one of these in the wild a few years ago. I stayed very far away and left the area immediately. I was so afraid.

Sea snakes are in the same family as cobras---Elapidae. Their venom is a neurotoxin, just like cobra venom. (Jan Griffiths).

No, all that's to be learnt from this is the snake needed help and he/she would have rightfully defended her/himself if in danger. And thank God he/she was safe and released, which is what most aquariums and zoos would never do.

Huh? It's just a normal goatee? I've seen that style propably on a 1000 different men. Used to go to metal and medieval festivals where most of the guys are proud of their beards.

snakes are so cool. I spent only 2 months working with wild snakes and they are by far the most predictable and least painful bite of any animal. At most it feels like getting a shot
Looooove love love very this show.. so glad the sea snake could be saved. On another note....sorry but the vet at the end of the show.....I've only seen one episode with her in it, & she looks so much better in the episode then the end of the show clip. She's such a gorgeous woman & whoever did her hair/make up in the end clip made her look like Bondi Barbie.....im not a Barbie fan.

I find it funny to hear the guy say a town called “Newcastle” in Australia ? When we in the UK also have a town called NewCastle, I wonder if there is connection in its history, perhaps a ship years ago sailed from the UK with the same name ? I will have to look it up.
We also have a Newcastle in South Africa. Probably British roots.
We also have a state called new south Wales and Victoria
@@randomdude4669 South Wales, probably got its name from 🏴 wales (UK) and Victoria (probably an obvious one) named after our Queen Victoria as we we do even today share the same monarch. An echo of our past Empire. The USA 🇺🇸 has even more towns and cities with names from the UK which is quite funny as I’ve seen posts of Americans saying the UK don’t have influence in the USA.
