One of the greatest movie scenes of all time, you don’t have to be a golfer to appreciate it! What a beautiful golf course love the birds in the background
I was a greenkeeper at Stoke Poges (now Stoke Park) in the early 80's when the course looked quite similar to how it was in the movie. It is shot over the last three holes. The golf swing of Gert Frobe was actually a man called Ray Knock, a local artisan member and very good at golf. He won the national artisan championship a couple of times but died in the seventies.
I hear that Connery and the actor who played Goldfinger became fast friends during the shooting of the film and did a lot of golfing during the their off time.
As I said: the greatest Bond, greatest Bond Villain, greatest Bond henchman, the greatest Bond score, greatest Bond theme song, the greatest Bond girl, greatest Bond movie title, and the greatest Bond movie
Interesting point. Live and let die is a great Bond song and probably the only Bond song that really had a life of its own outside the Bond universe. But musically speaking it is not a Bond song, at least deviates too far from the typical elements of a Bond song. Goldfinger is the ultimate Bond song. It is the archetype of a Bond song. So... I have to go with Goldfinger. @@kovan1975
A year or two after this movie was made, I got to be friends with Oddjob's real-life nephew. Oddjob's wrestling name was Tosh Togo. He was actually Japanese American, not Korean.
David Woods Gert Frobe who played Goldfinger was German and spoke very little English. His lines were dubbed by British actor Michael Collins although a few times in the movie Frobe was speaking himself.
I noticed that. I have used how do you do as a greeting but I have slipped in recent years. Actually, alright mate existed back then. These days it’s “yo”.
You people should understand that this scene built the James Bond character and world....the atmosphere...the zeitgeist....more than any other scene in the early movies.
The church across the river is used in Roger Moore's For Your Eyes Only in the pre credits. It is also the graveyard where Thomas gray wrote his "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard: including the inspiration al line "The paths of glory lead but to the grave" This is used by Kubrick in his film. "Paths of Glory" Aldus Huxley's Brave New World also refers to Stoke Poges Golf course.
Lol I like how he said that golf is not yet the national game of Korea 😂 and now the Koreans dominate the LPGA. Also some of the best of both men’s tours are Korean.
Thinking about it, is the reason Goldfinger missed the putt because there was suddenly a 25-odd pound metal block on the green that warped the ground around it?
golf, a sport where subterfuge and gamesmanship, are nearly as important as ball striking and course management. It’s something that comes into play in the cash games at the local courses quite frequently.
The gold bar dropped at around 1:18 would have weighed close to thirty pounds and left a large dent in the freshly mowed/manicured green. Nor could Mr Bond have had it in his pocket during the game. In his bag? Possibly. Although the sheer weight wouldn't have been appreciated by his caddy. And I can't see the caddy handing anything to Mr Bond prior to the bar being dropped opposite Goldfinger's short putt. Dropping the gold bar considered a violation of Golf etiquette. You never want to distract your opponent.
This movie is so well made. I love how the script writers clearly play golf in the way that Goldfinger and Bond keep talking just before the swing to try and psych each other out.
I saw this Film when I was about 10. At the time, we lived less than a mile from the Golf Course. Next day, me and a few friends went over there and went up to the Club House. We couldn't understand why all the Statues outside still had their Heads, and there was no sign of any damage either . . .
0:45; 'Golf is not yet the national game of Korea, hey?', probably is now: dominate the ladies game and a few handy male players over the years as well.
I once won a bet - What was the serial number on the bar of gold wagered by James Bond in the golf match with Goldfinger?" Somehow 7190 stuck in my mind when I saw it. Still a good trivia question for Bond movie fans.

As much as I love this movie, it's completely different from the book (not that there's anything wrong with that). In the book, Bond meets Goldfinger at the Miami hotel and sits amd watches them play a game of cards until he notices a pair of binoculars peering out one of the windows in the hotel. And in the book, it's actually a man called Mr. Du Pont (a guy who Bond played cards with Back in Casino Royale in 1953) who tells him about Goldfinger and not Felix Leiter. Also, the way Goldfinger listens in on what Jill Masterson is telling him is that he actually has a giant visor around his neck (which further supports the "sun tan" lie) which he somehow uses to listen to Jill with.

Yes. Good writing good acting and all set in an English golf course

Goodamn he is welldressed and iconic!! Love that style.
I like how he apparantly change to a more casual look with a shirt and sweater for the golf, only to switch back to jacket and tie after the game.

Did I really watch these in 240p in my childhood?!
That moment when you realize Bond played 16 holes of golf with a gold bar somewhere on his person...
