No, they don't actually talk to themselves in their character voice and commentate on what they are doing, so that you - the listener - can understand whats going on.
You can be cynical about it but doesn’t mean it’s any less or more believable for everyone else. If you’re the type to believe these people would fabricate this then that’s just a reflection of your perception. It’s not a fault in someone else that they don’t feel that way.
