Also, I'm no vocal coach, but that sexy ass raspiness in Shawn's voice (which he has learned to control more and make it sound more purposeful) is seriously STUNNING. In his earlier music, the raspy sound in his voice sometimes sounded "unintentional" or like he was pushing his voice too far, but honestly that is just a part of his sound. He controls it much better now, which is why you should have used more current music from him.

You can hear the original vocal before production playing back through the monitors as well as the post production and ‘auto tuned’ version. Clip 4 he says summer taaahm because he’s Canadian and it sounds better and less ‘theatrical’. Summertime is closed vowel. Summer taaahm is open voweled Clip 5 Again. Bieber has production. Shawn didn’t. Clip 6 Both were good to be fair however Bieber was straining a LOT. Clip 7 Bieber is straining a lot even lower down in his register. His jaw is clenched. You’re simply wrong. Clip 8 You’re right. He is straining a LOT but to be fair I think Bieber was on the cusp of puberty 😂 Clip 9 You’re right with both. Bieber was whiny though and very strained. However Shawn was really flat. Clip 10 Bieber had HUGE amounts of melodyne (auto tune) on that clip however Shawn seemed vocally tired and strained. Justin uses A LOT of auto tune. But I get annoyed by Shawn’s unpleasant nasal tone. Shawn can’t perform very well without his guitar too (stage presence) lol.

I agree, though I don't think Justin is better overall. They just have different singing styles. Justin's voice is better for contemporary pop music and he can do incredibly beautiful stuff with his voice, but Shawn's voice is more powerful, so he would be much better singing rock.
you could’ve pick up more recent clips of shawn. choosing to analyse his old covers of when he was still a kid going thru puberty and not experienced isn’t right. his vocals keep getting better and better day by day and he’s improved a lot technically

Also, I'm no vocal coach, but that sexy ass raspiness in Shawn's voice (which he has learned to control more and make it sound more purposeful) is seriously STUNNING. In his earlier music, the raspy sound in his voice sometimes sounded "unintentional" or like he was pushing his voice too far, but honestly that is just a part of his sound. He controls it much better now, which is why you should have used more current music from him.
please do this again with a video not made by a bieber fan. the videos of shawn are from like 2015 when he wasn’t vocally trained and still started out; he’s on a whole other level by now

thank you for mentioning the environments these were recorded in . One is in a room with the acoustics of a high school gym has he sits, and the other has a mic plugged into a rack of effects. Maybe I'm jaded after a lifetime of recording and engineering live, but to me i think they should have sent you more comparable clips. Sorry not hating here, I don't have a horse in this race.

I don't see Shawn tired in any of the videos. Justin Bieber does a lot more Concerts (Purpose Tour for almost 2 years) and even while walking and dancing Justin Bieber has better control. When it comes to Shawn Mendes he always stands or sits while sings. He barely dance but good singer

The vma performance was vocally a mess to me. They look the same age here, so that’s why they are comparing the two. Y’all are saying “these clips of Shawn are old” well so are Justin’s. Then y’all making the excuse “well he didn’t have vocal training there and Justin has” how you know Shawn hasn’t had vocal training?
