This song has been running in a loop in my head for a week straight and im ok with that. Its music like this that tells me real country music isn't dead.
I’ve been a fan since I heard Wildfire the first time on SiriusXM and the the subsequent Tides of a Teardrop album. My favorite song of theirs ebbs and flows with time- but I always come back to my favorite drinking song - Waltz About Whiskey.
Once the gettin’ was good Now the gettin’s got gone I’ll go on down town Just to tie one on I’m low and cased in silence Goin’ down by the hour And I’m as blue as the night is long So won’t someone dance with me To a waltz about whiskey And turn the sad songs to lullabies I don’t need much o’ nothin’ Just all of your lovin’ A waltz about whiskey on ice One quarter should do Number 832 A little tune from the jukebox should make it alright Now the booze sets in I’m gettin high again With a waltz about whiskey on ice So won’t someone dance with me To a waltz about whiskey And turn the sad songs to lullabies I don’t need much o’ nothin’ Except all of your lovin’ A waltz about whiskey on ice Well I remember the night she sat down beside me She cried love was a ring that won’t ever end I was handed a lie And now the only thing I know of a ring Is the circle my glass leaves behind So won’t someone dance with me To a waltz about whiskey And turn the sad songs to lullabies I don’t need much o’ nothin’ Except all of your lovin’ A waltz about whiskey on ice :)
I’m sober for years and happily in love, but this song tempts me to want to long for some or over a drink . Jokes , but can definitely remember the feelings!
I been alve a long time now, and I've seen and heard some of the greats in the art of music world. You kids got it. You got it. You have the special thing. It's all golden. Holy wah
While it is simply impossible to have just one favorite MO or Whatchouse song, I'd have to put this one near the top! Through single-minded effort and multiple plays on the jukebox at my local watering hole, I got this to go from a 2-credit play to a 1 credit play! Can't wait to see Watchouse at the New Grass festival in North Adams in August! See every one there!
Saw them in Dublin and they were brilliant As a two-piece, they blew the audience away with the playing and the blend of voices I too got their three albums and am enjoying watching them on here - great band and very cool people Great song
I remember the night she sat down beside me she said love was a ring that won't end I was handed a lie Now the only thing I know of a ring is the circle my glass leaves behind As good a bridge as any song I've heard
Man... i love your music. I found you on TH-cam and been listening ever since. So much in fact that me n my wife went to see you i L.A. with Kate Rhudy. So awesome. Can't8 wait to see you again. Been learning to play your songs. You're my heros.
Just saw them Live a couple of nights ago, in a cozy little performance space. In addition to being madly skilled at their work, they're both really nice people, and I enjoyed meeting them and talking music afterward.
Just discovered this song a few days ago while listening to John Prine Mix in Spotify. This is my type of music. Thank you, watchhouse! Best regards from the Philippines.
Reply to mt Paul Elliott: 3yrs later.saw them not to long ago in a small club and yes they too blew everyone away.they stoped singing at one point but the crowd didn't.they were just as everyone wanted, GREAT!
I Can't wait until I get to see you live. I would recommend visiting the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Maybe play in their annual music festival called Hiawatha in Marquette. They have a thriving music community too and your music would heard by accepting ears. Keep up the great work Andrew and Emily.
Can you imagine what Jerry Jeff Walker and his group of musicians could do with this song? If you can't, listen to his version of Dylan's "One Too Many Mornings"... Their arrangement of this song would be classic...
Once the getting was good, but now the getting's got gone I'm going downtown just to tie one on I'm oak aged and sour, I'm going down by the hour Now I'm as blue as night is long So won't someone dance with meto a waltz about whiskey And turn these sad songs to lullabies I don't need much of nothin', except for all your lovin' And the waltz about whiskey on ice One quarter should do, number A32 A little truth from the jukebox should make it alright And as the booze sets in, I'm getting high again To the waltz about whiskey on ice So won't' someone dance with me to a waltz about whiskey And turn these sad songs to lullabies I don't need much of nothin', except for all your lovin' And the waltz about whiskey on ice I remember the night she sat down beside me She cried love was a ring that won't end, well I was handed a lie Now the only thing I know of a ring is the circle my glass leaves behind So won't someone dance with me to a waltz about whiskey And turn these sad songs to lullabies I don't need much of nothin', except for all your lovin' And a waltz about whiskey on ice
Andrew, is Emily your lover, wife or sister??? I need to know. I don't need the guilt for my feelings! When I hear her my heart races, but when I hear your harmony, I know you two belong together. Why? Should I move on, in agony? This is my blues!
This was my dad‘s favorite song he just died and I wish he could just listen to it one more time
Discovered this song about a year ago. Several hundred? Thousand? Listens later and it remains my number one song in 47 years of listening. Thank you.
This song is criminally underrated!
"Now the only thing, I know of a ring is the circle my glass leaves behind."
Wow...brilliant; heartbreaking. Denver needs a visit.
My favorite music...Watchhouse! Thanks for that!
Amazing Songwriters
You're my favourites
This song has been running in a loop in my head for a week straight and im ok with that. Its music like this that tells me real country music isn't dead.
If I had ever written only one song, I wouldn't mind if it had been this one.
This is true country music. It’s also my 4 yo daughter’s favorite song at the moment, and mine for that matter.
I’ve been a fan since I heard Wildfire the first time on SiriusXM and the the subsequent Tides of a Teardrop album. My favorite song of theirs ebbs and flows with time- but I always come back to my favorite drinking song - Waltz About Whiskey.
I just heard this song a few weeks ago and man it is just on my playlist daily. Hope I don't wear it out. What a great sound.

Once the gettin’ was good
Now the gettin’s got gone
I’ll go on down town
Just to tie one on
I’m low and cased in silence
Goin’ down by the hour
And I’m as blue as the night is long
So won’t someone dance with me
To a waltz about whiskey
And turn the sad songs to lullabies
I don’t need much o’ nothin’
Just all of your lovin’
A waltz about whiskey on ice
One quarter should do
Number 832
A little tune from the jukebox should make it alright
Now the booze sets in
I’m gettin high again
With a waltz about whiskey on ice
So won’t someone dance with me
To a waltz about whiskey
And turn the sad songs to lullabies
I don’t need much o’ nothin’
Except all of your lovin’
A waltz about whiskey on ice
Well I remember the night she sat down beside me
She cried love was a ring that won’t ever end
I was handed a lie
And now the only thing I know of a ring
Is the circle my glass leaves behind
So won’t someone dance with me
To a waltz about whiskey
And turn the sad songs to lullabies
I don’t need much o’ nothin’
Except all of your lovin’
A waltz about whiskey on ice
:)
It is “oak aged and sour” not “low cased in silence”.
I think something's wrong with your ears.
One quarter should do, number A-32, a little truth from the jukebox should make it all right...
'scuse me while I kiss this guy...

His voice and this song reminds me of something Steve Earle would do.

"Bridgers"
A helpful hint: Lose the ice. You won't have to deal with rings anymore.
My Grandmother and the whiskey waltz

When I hear one of Andrew's songs, I always think it's a cover of some great old standard. But no, it's all his.
Got a good hillbilly sound to it.
