There is a very talented watercolour painter from Japan called Shibasaki in TH-cam who I highly recommend if you're interested in watercolour painting. His art is almost magic

Hello from Russia. In such funny times as today, it is especially interesting to learn about the life of people in Finland. And at the same time, I want to attract interest in the history of this country, since I collect coins of the Principality of Finland, when the country was part of the Russian Empire until 1917. I will be glad to hear your opinions under my new video on this topic, and I would like to find like-minded people on the topic from Finland, to see the antique shops of this country. I will be glad!

So nice of her to teach you with watercolours and give some colours and brushes. I wish someone would teach me too to use colours. I like to draw with pencils and charcoal, but sometimes it would be nice to use some colour.

Daiki going in with the big guns and starting with watercolor which is like the hardest media to start out with. I cry at all the kids who lose their interest in art in basic education here, because they are forced to do watercolor with nonpigmented colors. I also loved seeing the rep for snow white, the owner is such a great guy even if he doesn't always have everything in stock! If you find yourself frustrated and need tips to improve your drawing (the most important aspect of painting as well), I'll give you a test lesson on bargue drawing you can easily keep up at home. I need test students before I take on a teaching position I've been offered and it would be nice to test my english teaching skills as we get a lot of international students.

    Hi Daiki!
I was surprised that you were open for trying watercolor painting, but it made me super happy to see that you had interest for trying it and even making a video about it.
As an artist myself it was also interesting to watch because I don’t work with watercolors, but with alchohol based paint and markers. It was also very kind of the artist to give you a palet of watercolors and maybe we get to see another video where you make a painting with them? And ofcourse, as always, it was a great video!
Oh and what did you think of painting with watercolors?

Thank you! Alcohol based paint sounds interesting :) It was very hard but interesting and calming at the same time.

What is paper really? Ancient Egyptians made paper out of reed, Cai Lun used rice in China... And today there is a mixture of pulp, cotton and metals in 'paper money' So any type of fiber goes.

The short answer would be "processed plant based fibers as sheets you can write on"

Actually watercolor was my hobby for a couple of years! I haven't painted anything in a year though, mostly due to lack of time. I agree that paper is the most important tool! Cotton-only ones might be expensive though, especially for beginners but the non-cotton ones can also be very good - just make sure you buy something that is 300 g, never-ever anything less :) It's good to have several brushes of different sizes and shapes too but there are brushes out there that will allow you to do both wide and super thin strokes if you learn to use them properly (the caligraphy and caligraphy-like ones).
Overall, it's a really interesting art medium, on one hand you gotta pre-plan and pre-think everything beforehand. On the other, you cannot really control it and you gotta go with the flow at some point, or it will look overworked ;) Also, you gotta learn to let go the idea of painting every single detail because it's just impossible. It was very frustrating for me because before watercolor, I was mostly into realistic portraits :) Good luck, hope you will continue with it. Just don't get discouraged if your first 20-30 paintings suck, it's normal, because you have to learn how paper, water and paint interact in this medium :) It's an art of observation more than anything else.

PS.: TIP: If you accidentally put paint in area that you wanted to be white, don't worry that much about it :) Because after drying it will be much, much lighter. You can also move part of the pigment away with a clean damp brush, or to the area you want to be darker. In most of the cases, it does the job ;)

This vlog was different than your usual content... I mean atleast this is what I felt... But yeah as an graduate student in Budapest Hungary, I also feel we need to have a hobby so that we can have some quality of time apart from our daily life routine.... Overall I thank you for giving us such a beautiful content.
