Betty was an old at comedy, her timing is spot on. And though Lauren wasn't known for her comic talents, she handles every line with sharp finesse. And what can you say about Marilyn? She was a natural comedienne. This is a wonderful scene from a wonderful movie with three of the most wonderful glamor girls ever.

I ll tell you why. Its her white hair. Everything about her look was very well crafted. They build her to be a big star. White hair has impact . If she were a brunette, not so special.
@@flower1990-B I disagree, it’s an energy and charisma aspect. Betty also has white hair it’s actually whiter than Marilyns and she’s stunning too in this scene and yet we’re all looking at Marilyn. I love Marilyn's fashion in this film! Especially her in glasses, I actually have a framed photo of her standing in front of the 4 way mirror around 1:57, I just wish this movie was more wildly available to stream instead of to buy or rent. It's one of my favorite Marilyn films!
Lauren Bacall was a beautiful woman, but she was one of those women who appeared a lot older than they were. She's 29 years old here, and at first, I thought she was in her 40's.
The voice also ages Bacall. There are some actresses that just look the same for over 20 years. Tina Fey is a another example. In her 20s she looked much older but now she looks amazing. Look at her in both incarnations of Mean Girls. She looks the exact same.
Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe are the perfect leggy duets of them all. Even if Marilyn Monroe sang Betty Grable's songs as if Betty Grable sang Marilyn Monroe songs, these two leggy blonde bombshell sex symbols are the perfect combo. Even Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, Christina Aguilera, and Ariana Grande are terrific joining together.
@lilangelic Her voice and her hardened face. Don't get me wrong, she was still a very beautiful woman but her aging was rapid. Compared to many of her contemporaries she did not age well, must have been all the chain smoking.

"We haven't ordered anything yet under $5 a portion." That would be $56.34 in 2023 dollars. It's sad that the younger generations don't seem to have any interest in watching old movies or lack the attention span to make it through one without checking their phone. I often hear certain college kids refer to these old films as "problematic" and best forgotten about. What a waste. I used to enjoy watching old movies with my grandparents as a child and still love watching them today. 📽🍿❤
What you said is so true. I have seen a countless number of movies from the Golden Age and modern films can't even hold a candle to them... what's truly 'problematic' is that the values have shifted so much that the younger generation can't understand the context of any of these films. A prime example would be the scene from Neptune's Daughter with the song Baby It's Cold Outside, they don't understand 1) the film's plot, and 2) the context of 1950's traditional values (which we completely lack - sadly)... and they completely miss the point. And miss out on the golden era of Hollywood and the best films that were ever made.
One thing is for sure about monroe: she REPEATEDLY told people that she was a fake; that MM was an act she put on, like a skin but that nobody cared about norma jean: all they wanted was the fake voice, fake walk, pseudo-fragile 'marilyn'. If you want a glimpse of the real woman, watch her in All About Eve: her real rough demeanor, her crass voice, before she went to finishing school and usurped Barbara Bates' personality as Phoebe, in that movie. monroe was a fake and a phony and, to her credit, she told that repeatedly to people but nobody would listen----especially her fans. Thankfully, we have that flick on record, as well as her maid telling it like it is (she was impossible, unkind, never bathed, 8Ted children and animals alike) and her directors (she was unprofessional, unsmart, unlearned and a drag to work with!) Thank goodness we only had to suffer her existence on this planet for some 36 years! Less movies that way, wishing she'd offed herself at 26, though.
