There’s a few things that give Beggiatoa away. The first is the simple serpentine shape of their bodies, and the second are those little dots inside of them. They look like bubbles, but they’re actually sulfur granules.

get better soon hank! welcome to naration matt, has jams germs ever considered doing naration of 1 of the videos??
🙋🏼♀️ sir! I have a question ⁉️ what are the cutest most deadly bacteria in the microcosmos? 💕 Like with cool names.
Hi Matt, its nice to see you filling in for Hank while he's focusing on Chemo and recovery.
Hopefully he pops in now and again when he's feeling up to it. But until then we're lucky to have you!
I didn't know he was going through chemo! Hank is so awesome, I hope for the best for his recovery. ❤
Different but nice in it's own way. Thank you for taking the job and keeping the microcosmos channel on. One of my favorite channels.
it’s a totally different vibe to hank & even debroki, but i appreciate that tbh. i like that he’s not trying to be hank - it feels much more authentic
a bit of energy though. needs some habituating
Hank's voice on this channel has been helping me find sleep through incredibly tough times over the past few years, and I sincerely hope he will be getting better. Thanks a lot Matt for stepping in, and thank you to all of the people making Journey to the Microcosmos the wonderful content that it has always been. I love this channel and I love you guys.
I settled down to have my nerves calmed by Hank's gentle, soothing _Microcosmos_ voice and... Learned about *chemolithotrophy!* Thanks Matt!
I wanted to say that these videos are getting my through a very tough time in my life and helping me focus on my grades. This channel has reignited my passion in microscopy, and filled my days with samples from a local pond and childlike wonder at what I find under my crappy 50$ microscope. I haven't had more fun in years.
Here's to a long, long future!
I have to say, Hank was always one of my favourite personas. I absolutely loved the guy on sci-show and followed him on different projects and he''s positive vibe was something that you could always count on.
He was the one who introduce me to my new hobby - microscopy.
Get well my friend.
Matt, happy to hear you being here and thank you so much for stepping in while Hank gets better. However long he needs he should get to recover. I still love these videos no matter what! 💛
This was a really sweet way to handle Hanks absence ☺️
Hank should take as long as he needs. Im just glad the show goes on. I welcome new voices on our journey.
Wishing Hank all the best in his recovery. Thanks Matt for stepping up. Great video
Matt, you're really good at this and I'm happy to hear you and know that these great videos will continue! I do miss Hank, and I hope he recovers quickly and completely. I also hope you continue to help create these videos because I really enjoy them!
Thank you for keeping these going. Hope Hank is doing ok ❤
Did a great job Matt!
Wishing Hank the best of luck.
Hi Matt. Good to hear you. All our best wishes for Hank
I saw the title and thought “oh I’m so curious!” When studying sulfur bacteria is a big part of my job. And I already knew 🤣. Filamentous bacteria fan!
Excellent, and sending hugs to Hank! Hoping you have a speedy recovery!
I’m happy microcosmos I continuing while Hank gets better. Thanks Matt! Hank is favorite but you did a fine job. I look forward to new voices for new experiences in my micro journey 💜
It's Matt!! Love to hear the voice behind the (edit) curtain. Amazing to hear how we discovered how organisms use sulfur.
New to the public people! Awesome. Bring on the microganisms ❤ and new narration
Pleased to hear your voice again Matt! I used to watch some dftba warehouse videos that you hosted and i still think of you saying "NerdfArt" every time p4a comes around, very pleased to find you here while Hank's away, great job on this video ❤
I love to take the twists and turns of serpentine paths. The perspectives I see!
Thanks Matt
thanks matt for letting us still learn while Hank recovers. lots of love!
Awesome job hosting Matt!
Hank'll beat it. The video he'll make when he does is gonna be too good not to happen.
Thank you for taking over, Matt. Great show, as always. Best wishes to Hank Green
Your voice was a bit difficult for me to seperate from the background sound tonight. The sound seemed a bit muddy. That has never happened before, and I hope you can correct it, as I hate to miss the monologue. I needed to turn the volume up pretty to understand all the words.
Matt edited so much videos with Hank's voice he can now talk similar to his way of talking haha
I hope you continue to do some of these after Hank returns, Matt - you're really good at it. Thanks!
Yay new voice friends! Y'all could have guest hosts who each narrate a sample from their location.
Thank you Matt! It was just wonderful!!!
Very interesting video! Thanks Matt (et al) for stepping in to help while Hank goes through chemo and gets better!!
I listen to this channel to relax. The music and visuals are great! Can you please slow down the pace of the narration? It's part of what makes this channel so relaxing.
Wonderful job, Matt. Massive thanks to the whole team for keeping things going in a tough time!
Hi Mike!! Glad to hear your voice!😊
Thank you for the journey equally as captivating!!!!!
I don't want to contribute to the comments just roasting your voice, because it's lovely. I really appreciate you stepping in. You did a great job.
But. Is it possible for any of the other narrators to try talking more slowly? It's easier to understand these concepts and the episodes are much more relaxing at the pace Hank uses for this series, which is way, way slower than any other science narrator's. Like any on earth. I think the incredibly slow speed Hank usually adopts here makes any normal, otherwise relaxing voice seem like a really big change, and I think that's part of why the comment section is like this.
I really hope Hank is okay, and I really appreciate you stepping in to narrate. Thank you.
This is nice I'm glad to see someone filling in while Hank is sick
Great job capturing the mood!
Thanks for the awesome content and great videos!!
Nice to meet you, Matt, I look forward to more videos hosted by you
Thanks for the great video Matt
Great video, and a fine first episode on the mic ^^
This is the perfect time for me to add that whenever I read your name in the credits, I imagine a Gyarados with a hat
It’s nice hearing from you!! I hope Hank is doing better soon
Matt's voice is great :)
I love your voice!!! Please keep doing more videos 🥰🥰 and please get better Hank!
well presented
I actually like the change in voice
Wow, I have to stop binging these, but i love this channel. Thanks for stepping up to the mike (and scriptwriting?) to help Hank rest and look aftsr himself.
Informative and as beautiful as ever. I hope Hank can kick back and enjoy the ahow from the other side of the screen with us, as the audience, taking inspiration from all the unlikely nooks and crannies of life.
No Hank, ;_;
Thanks for your work Mat
Thanks for the beautiful images of these important microorganisms. Would you please share the type of optical microscope that you used? Also, would you share the camera details that you used to take the video? Thanks again for the great images.
amazing!
Beginning: YOU'RE NOT HANK!
7 mins in: This is nice.
Fascinating
very well done!!! informative, great vid, and even good music in the background, (which usually is awful). also you really have a wonderful voice :) 🧪🌷🌱
one thing, i would like to know the chemical formula for reaction of the sulfur and the O2.
Hey dude great job! I'm gonna need you to join in on an episode of Tangents so we can get to know you better.
Thank you, patrons!
I have these guys living in my eyeballs... Hello eye squiggles!!!
I must buy one of your microscopes. Would like to know more about microorganism taxonomy.
We don't all form mats at the bottoms of fish tanks because we need air to breathe 8) Other than that, I think that we'd all be hanging out in piles at the bottoms of fish tanks.
Hank, we're proud of you for taking care of yourself.
Oh hi Matthew Gaydos voice.
Get well soon Hank.
Not used to the voice but i like the person
Big shoes to fill, Matt!
good work on vid, hope Hank gets ‘well’, thanks for narrating
Imagine if the fill in narrator was Bobcat Goldthwaite or the late Gilbert Gottfried. We are so used to a soothing voice it would definitely be a change.
Another one I missed? Well, I'm here, now. And yeah, I much prefer Hank's dulcet tones, but he's kind of occupied, currently. Though he is as I write this done with the worst of his treatment, and is on his way to being well, again. 😊
Wow, impressive! But does it mean that Beggiatoa CAN use sulphur for energy, or that it HAS TO use sulphur? Since it apparently survived in non-sulphured spring water. Is it just that it can't have an advantage over other microscopic creatures outside of the sulphur? I need to know more
My mom used to get angry with me when I wouldn't eat my beggiattoas.
I cant believe a prokaryote is capable of such complex movement. are the sulfur granules a relic from before the great oxidation event.
Wow.
How did they discover what that the granules were made of sulfur?
The Beggiatoa are so long. Their movements are so weird to me.
I like Hank, but thos is the first time I've liked a microcosmos video.
I like the whispery qualities of the earlier videos. Helped me relax while I was looking at the pretty pictures.
GET WELL SOON HANK 😢😭
Beggiatoa are best with some tomato sauce and lots of cheese.
Hank got fired?
Hank is ill.
No, he has cancer and I guess is going through chemo treatment now.
hi matt. heres nitpicking for the voice team. if a german or slavic looking name has a W in it is almost certainly pronounced like a V. winograd = weber = krakow = wiener, etc. etc. love u all
I miss hank already, matt is still cool tho.
Deadpool does Science.
Cool. Hi and Howdy Matt. BTW tell Hank that he has healing vibes incoming from some of his tree hugging fans.
I hate auto correct! 😢
I want the world's new AI voice to be the voice of Hank Green 😊.
Can we test using AI voice reproduction, so the relaxing voice of Hank lives while he recovers?
You got to talk a little bit slower and more smoothly to get the same vibe
First
Nice to have you here🔬🦠
I needed these calm sounds. Always nice to listen to someone talking about this tiny world🦠
