    Switch 2 trailer did not need to be like the Switch 1 trailer. Consumers were already sold on the concept. Switch 2 trailer basically just confirms to the average consumer that it's the same thing as Switch 1, just bigger and better. The only real fault I can say about the trailer is that it did not emphasize the graphical and power leap of Switch 2.

      Well it also didn't do anything to prove the leakers don't have Nintendo by the throat. Coverage of secret features like the mysterious C button or how the operating system menu looks would have changed the narrative a bit. Nintendo didn't show anything the leakers hadn't already spilled, besides unofficially confirming the new Mario Kart - but we all kind of expected that was coming early in Switch 2 lifetime anyway.

    I'm not even disappointed from the leaks, it's more that they've been dragging this out for SO LONG, 8 year life cycle and just now at the 8 year mark almost, they finally JUST announce the thing. That's it. JUST announce, formally, that it exists. With microscopic clips of a new Mario Kart that show us very little that feels 'new', and don't tell us a damn thing about the features that are new, just that it's bigger, and presumably better. (yes yes, mouse controls, we ONLY know that's a thing from the leaks, basically) And now we have to wait another 2+ months?
    The system itself is I think what most of us want. The utterly slow-ass pacing of telling us anything at all is what I find disappointing.

  • @seangriffey8669
    @seangriffey8669 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

    I think the fact that they announced the direct for april has staved off most of the disappointment for me. I and I'm sure most people watching this channel are already sold on the system and were sold on it years ago. It's the games we want and us having the date for when the game will be shown is huge here.

  • @mildhoof
    @mildhoof 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

    It’s not about being “casual”, the graphics of the new Mario Kart were just not impressive in 2025. I don’t even think Mario Kart NEEDS to look amazing. But using MK as the first glimpse of gameplay makes it seem like that’s the best they’ve got, and from the hardware leaks we know the Switch 2 can do much much more. April’s showcase will hopefully be great, but it’s pure cope to think this week’s reveal is winning over potential customers. Especially when their biggest competition is actually the Switch 1, and they need to do a lot more to communicate that this is not just the Switch XL, and to convince them that the Switch 2 is a must-buy.

      @ The Switch 2 hype has been literally crazy for months now, of course this was going to get a lot of views. That doesn’t guarantee the console will be as successful as I hope it is. Not sure why you’re being so defensive when all I’m saying is this was a squandered marketing opportunity. I’ve already seen lots of chatter from people online (who aren’t up to date on the hardware leaks) saying how “underpowered” the Switch 2 is, the Mario Kart footage literally set up that narrative. 1-2 seconds of a visually impressive game, whether 1st or 3rd party, would have negated that narrative. Either that, or they should have saved all gameplay footage for April for a huge blowout at once, where there wouldn’t be pressure for Mario Kart to have impressive graphics.

All I really wanted to see were games, we already knew what the console was and what it looked like. That reveal showed me nothing at all I didn't know and had a 10 second, non-fullscreen clip of Mario Kart X. For someone like me who cares just about seeing games, yes it was disappointing. No it’s about what we came to expect, a system that is a more powerful version of what we already have with technology that puts it in the same playing field as a ps4 pro. The reveal in itself was not disappointing whatsoever, what was more disappointing is the lack of a release date.

I’m sure they will have that life style trailer close to the April Direct to show off these aspects. Like imagine someone coming home from work and goes to their desk / PC area. I'm still confident that other stages in Mario Kart 9 will look graphically impressive. I think that desert stage they chose for the trailer is barren by design because it's a desert, but I reckon there'll be some Wild Woods style stages in the game that have much richer, denser more lushous foliage that show off what the system can do :)
    At the same time, I think Nintendo massively messed up by choosing this footage for the trailer, and not a more impressive stage, because a lot of people are going to spend the next 2.5 months writing off Switch 2, and maybe some of them will literally buy a Steam Deck because of this mess up by Nintendo.

    Mario Kart has about 45% sell through on Switch 1. Its a monster seller but not ubiquitous. Not all players use handheld exclusively either - this is also not ubiquitous. Combined, the reveal hit maybe 70% of fans. The remainder saw merely a bigger Switch (Switch OLED did that already) and a game that either didn't interest them, or didn't look very different from the Switch 1 version.
    Are a majority of fans happy? Yes. But there's a sizable minority that didn't see any reason to upgrade with the reveal and worse, might not see anything for another two and half months. Show us something more tuned for the docked players (like new Pro Controller or on-screen caption about 4K in TV mode). Show us a game series not already on Switch 1 or a new entry in a series that is very obviously not so similar to the Switch 1 version. Or just simply show more games to appeal to a wider range of player interests. It was over two minutes long. There was plenty of time squeeze in more into this reveal to broaden the interest. A minute and a half of cosmetics and twenty seconds of Mario Kart (no game in the Switch 1 reveal got 20 straight seconds) was too focused on just two segments of the Switch 1 fanbase. Leaks or not, it was disappointing to see Nintendo not be more mindful of a wider audience.

      But yes I agree, they should have dropped this ‘reveal’ last year before starting mass manufacturing to get ahead of potential leaks, and just announce it’s coming in 2025. And no Mario Kart footage, until a showcase that also features good looking games at the same time.

    @mrshmuga9 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

    Yes, but not because it won’t be good, just that it was barebones and we basically have to wait until it launches before hearing about/seeing games or anything substantial. It was basically just “it exists, go away”. Also, I was hoping the joycons themselves had a grip lie, the Wii U game pad, but maybe they’re avoiding that so sideways joycons aren’t as awkward with a lump on the side. The joycons just aren’t very ergonomic, despite 90% of people not using them sideways. And it’s unfortunate that their new plastic texture looks better, but it’ll be completely pointless as I put on a grip because holding onto a flat surface just isn’t comfortable. I do really love the magnets though, and mouse control sounds exciting and isn’t getting the attention it deserves. Sure it’s not demonstrated, and was leaked, but we all know it’s there so there’s no excuse.
    Yeah, I’m not crazy how Mario Kart doesn’t look visually different (you could have a unique art style without hurting performance), but I think that’s going to be unique to Mario Kart, and not representative that their other games won’t look better. They’re probably keeping the poly count on the lower end for Mario Kart to focus on other areas (confirmed or theorizing) like: 24 players, 4 player local online, 4 player local running at 60fps, 4K resolution (at least in single player), and some other things. I doubt it does 120fps at 1080 (single-player) but that would be neat as well. Essentially, making performance smooth all around without having to explain the exceptions like “well you can have 2 players in 60fps but not 4” or only 2 players online and not 4.

    But the console itself is more or less exactly what I could’ve wanted. It’s a bigger and better Switch, and it looks sleek and nice and I’m sure will have a great line up of games. And like, I really don’t care if Mario Kart doesn’t look vastly better than 8 Deluxe, since it looks really good even still.
    And on the subject of leaks, while Kamiya is extreme in his response… yeah, I’m pretty much feeling that way about leaks now. Like, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good leak video when it leads to speculation. But man, it kinda sucks when people treat SOME leakers like infallible prophets and never stop and have even a little hesitance to believe everything they read online. Since that just stops any of the fun of leaks and speculation.

That IS the new gimmick, except it has the potential to actually be useful unlike 3D or the IR camera.

      @mrshmuga9 Yeah I can’t wait to see what they do with the mouse. But even then I’ve seen people complain about it. I saw a thread of a person asking what the point of a mouse is if there is no keyboard. After multiple people tried to explain to them you’d use the other joycon as the keyboard and the possible uses such as DS games on NSO, then they said what the point was if it has a touchscreen, again people explained that the touchscreen doesn’t work in docked, and they just kept doubling down and were complaining about how it’s useless it is just a waste of money for them to implement. Obviously you shouldn’t be a blind optimist all the time, but how someone get’s enjoyment from acting dumb like that just to complain I’ll never know.

      @@Steady_as_she_goes It’s probably a child or a troll. I don’t even know if I’d actually use the mouse control personally (outside maybe Pikmin), and yet I still acknowledge it could be huge. In the same way that split joycons has made controllers more comfortable (you can rest your arms in different positions), I think adding the LED will do the same for mouse control on a couch. My main concern would be how it works or how well. Because you’re not going to have a large flat surface like a mouse pad. You’ll have an arm rest or your leg which are thinner. That, and with a mouse you can lift it to “reset” its position but how will the mouse con know that? The ZL/ZR buttons will be too awkward to press constantly, and the L/R will be used for the button click. Actually, the ZL/ZR might be the “right click” so it wouldn’t even be available. They’re not gonna give that all away in the initial trailer but it’s something to ponder about.

    I think It's pretty much what Nintendo fans expected. A bigger stronger switch lol and we know the bread and butter is when that software starts getting announced. I haven't moved off being a day one buyer, but still disappointed. Not a fence-sitter.
      I play 99% docked. I didn't need 60% of the reveal video time devoted solely to cosmetics.
      I'm not a modern Mario Kart series fan (bring back Double Dash mode, and we'll talk.) I didn't need another 15% dedicated to this one game at the expense of other games that would have got me excited about a day one purchase.
      Didn't show me 4K through docked mode or other performance boosts, particularly for any existing Switch 1 games which would have added value.
      Nintendo already said backwards compatibility in November. Didn't need a leak to tell me the last ten seconds.
      Too far to travel to experience a Hand-on Play Test (assuming I could win a ticket in the lottery to do so.)
      May not see any games to get me excited about day one purchase until April.
      System likely not launching until summer, a few months later than I've been anticipating since the fall.
      No third-party game shown, meaning the NDA's for third-party game announcements may still be in effect until that April blowout. (We'll probably find out when Microsoft does or doesn't announce Switch 2 games this coming week.)
      Plenty to be disappointed about without being a fence-sitter.

How you feel about that is up to you. Personally, it's not that long to me. I can wait. But that's me. As far as the system itself, we knew what it was going to be. And you can't jump to conclusion about being a stronger Switch. The video does not say this is the case. The leaks say this is the case. Even day one buyers want to know this actually is a stronger Switch, and Nintendo didn't explicitly say that in their video. We've seen a newer, bigger Switch before in the OLED model, and its not any more powerful. Can't tell me its not possible some people who watched the video thought it was merely a larger OLED model, because I talked to someone who thought that's exactly what it was. Nintendo doesn't need to convince me to buy it. They need to convince people like that - and didn't do it. I can certainly be disappointed that Nintendo failed to present its new model as sufficiently distinct from an OLED XL.

Because what else can you say? I 100% believe Nintendo never had any intention of showing this right now and did as a response to the leaks. Sure, would I have loved it if they revealed it similar to how they did it for the Switch 1? Of course I would. But I think we are in a different time and doing it like that would've been confusing for casual fans. So simply giving out a straight forward hardware reveal was the right call.

    Nintendo gave what their consumer base wants; a new and improved Switch! I can see why some people aren't that super excited with the trailer due to the leaks but I couldn't have asked for a better reveal. People who are depressed really need to get over the snowflake emotionalism LOL. The trailer is exactly what the Switch successor should be! The fact that it is still a Switch and that Nintendo didnt depart from the portable/dock feature but improved along with the physical and digital backward compatibility almost ensures success for this console. It's either Nintendo departs from what made the original Switch successful and you get excited and overwhelmed about the new gimmick but the console fails like the Wii U. Or Nintendo sticks with what made the original Switch successful and improve on it every 5-6 years with the Switch 3, Switch 4, Switch 5 etc and you get underwhelmed and cry like a dog due to the leaks or lack of gimmickry but the console sells even more than the original Switch. The new name 'Nintendo Switch 2', the new screen and joycons and the backwards compatibility is exactly what Nintendo need to ensure success! And marketing for future consoles couldn't be much more easier and effective with 'Switch 3, Switch 4, Switch 5 ect etc! This is exactly what people were hoping for. The numerical way worked for Sony and it'll surely work for Nintendo as well. Nintendo do not want another WIi U failure which these critics obviously want. They want Nintendo to fail! Of course Nintendo will play it safe! Why destroy a proven formula? If it ain't broke DON'T FIX IT!! Nintendo can just focus on the joycons for new gimmickry if possible every 5-6 years to satisfy the entitled few as long as those joycons attaches to the screen. And it isn't the hardware that sells the console. It's the games! And these will just get better and better in every new versions of the Switch! Don't pay much attention to the haters! Just enjoy their incoherent criticisms! Well done Nintendo! And the Switch is just the dream console if you're a physical collector who don't have much space in your home and is always on the go. It's portable/dock feature and size is too hard to resist! Especially now that Nintendo has officially decided to stick with the hybrid feature and will just improve on it is motivation enough to save money and pre-order it! Imagine having a Switch more powerful than a PS5 by the time Switch 3 or 4 comes out! All that visual and technical brilliance in the palm of your hands! Nintendo's got my bank account! Bring it on! 😂👍👏

    Just my impressions, and I'm not techie........🫠
    S2 will be awesome! Huge screen. LCD screens have developed much since 2017. All the improvements made for a much improved experience. Stability, durability, ease etc. Nintendo have addressed EVERYTHING. The Joycon connections, the analogue stick, the buttons. New microchips (Custom-made) with cutting-edge DLSS and more. Puts it up there with PS4 Pro, or even PS5 in some way because the screen resolution is on a handheld.
    Maybe Nintendo will produce more colorful S2's at release, or in future. But it's not important if they don't. It looks real slick and a bit more mature for sure😎. Younger people might prefer more colorful S2's, so it would be nice if it had some customisation available for its appearance, or release of more colorful versions as said.
    Joycons can be used as a MOUSE.🎉 That will at the very least keep cats happy..... Mmmkay!
    The improved Dock with it's cooling (I think) and whatever else.
    Then there's the Games. We ain't seen 'anything' yet! Just a quick peek at a Mariokart game, but not even to it's full capacity yet.🏁🍾
    Snazzy new cartridge and memory card tech. Much faster, and more memory (if I remember right lol!).🤯
    S2 has the POWER, and the latest UPSCALING tech/AI software. Games should run smoothly, look sharp no matter how fast and detailed the graphics run.
    I'm curious about the batteries & battery life, charging speed, level of Ray tracing and whatever else. I'm sure Nintendo have done the best they can. And yes, they could release a 'S2 Pro' in a few years time (perhaps 2028 or 2029?), for the more 'demanding' gamer. The S2 (and potential 'S2 Pro') will be holding its own while the new Xbox, other consoles, handhelds arrive over the years.🥇
    I imagine games on/coming to Switch, that they play Upscaled and even smoother (higher frame rate) on S2.
    Windwaker 🙏🏻
    April 2nd is just around the corner. We'll know much more then!✌🏻
