Hi Remi, Always a pleasure to make the contact with you my friend. Happy New Year and look forward to working your station again in 2020. 73' Mike 26CT1074.
As Tim says (hello Tim!) that was a really good video. I'm very fond of PMR446 so it's nice to hear the band full of signals. I have worked France using a 500mW handheld (my personal favourite - the Midland G7) so it can be done if you're in the right place at the right time :-) No video exists from my end so you'll have to take my word for it haha! 73 from Ed 26-CT-842.
It's a wonderful and quirky band during good conditions, I love it. The midland g7 is a cracking handset indeed. Out of interest - you wouldn't happen to be the guy who was on during the southern and South-East PMR net one evening earlier this year and was down on the beach in West Sussex who spoke to a guy across the channel on the standard PMR set?
Mike1074 DX Yes that was me, and I was using the Midland G7. I know it can be modded to put out 2-3 Watts but I’ve kept it as it is. Don’t wanna break it!! I do own several handhelds and (in my opinion, anyway) it’s the best one that I’ve ever used. I dunno if lightning will ever strike twice but I was certainly in the right place and at the right time! 73 and happy new year.
That is bloody impressive indeed! Have you heard anything around 143 MHz, I know it's unofficially allocated to hanglider pilots but I've heard of a few experimenting much like 27MHz or 446. It might be worth a listen just to see if it's active at all especially when the lift is strong.
I always listen to pmr channels but its not a big thing here in ireland . Be great if someone would set up a pmr day. As everyone is on lock down here might be a good time to try break some rekords .
Keep an eye on the Hepburn tropo index on dxinfocenter website. It's a great website to show when conditions will or should be decent for long distance. Unfortunately PMR is mostly less than line of sight range. But you'd never know with the right conditions :)
Hi Mike,
Thank you for this video. It was a pleasure to have a QSO with you.
Happy New Year 2020.

Hi Jake, no I must say I've not even listened around there but will definitely start doing so, see what's being heard!
