  • An battery powered push ditch mower. Makes mowing your ditches easy and you don't have to stand in a ditch with broken glass, snakes and who knows what.

    I've been using this gadget for more than five years now, with no problems.

    I should make another video. I've modified the handle to swivel so that I am always walking forward. I placed the batteries in a straight line down the center of the body for a better balance when pushing in both directions.

    This is such a great set up; you've thought of everything, the storage & even electric!

    Interesting video. Makes sense to use a battery powered mower for that purpose. But, I'll be darned if I would do that with a push mower. I would do that with a riding tractor.

    This is awesome. When I weedeat my ditches I always imagine making a machine to better do the job. It’s the reason I’m here watching this video. I would’ve never come up with this though. Fantastic!

    That's cool. My sister could really use that on her farm.

    Alan I'd like to build one of these to mow around my ponds that have sloped areas around them. I trued a 21" push mower attached to my zero turn but the weigh was just a bit much and affected the steering on the zero turn. I think your electric unit is lighter and would solve my weight issue. Plus it would solve the oil lubrication issues I also might have run into. Any chance you could make another video going into a little more depth on the electric motor used and blade set up. Or if I gave you my contact info if you would be willing to email me that information. I know it would sure save me a ton of time using this set up or something similar. Right now im back to using a push mower and weed eater and wasting alot of time.

    Man I would like the plans on how to build this!! I’ve been watching many vids on DIY I have two old JD mowers ( one with deck and one without deck) that I plane to use. I want to attach it to my sub-compact 1023E JD tractor, either on 3-point are front loader. Not a engineer just an ole coonazz wit tools, so need all help I can get. Lol.

      There was no plans. I just started building and when something didn't work I would make changes. It's much better now. The handle swivels from front to back so that I am always walking forward. I picked up a 40 volt 20 inch push mower at a thrift store the other day. Since I already have another like it, I'm planning on using this mower and some aluminum angle to build a completely new one that will be very light and more powerful. At 75 years old, the one in the video is getting a little hard for me to handle. I will take pictures of every step of the project and post them when done.

    How long of a mowing time do you get out of the machine before you have to charge the batteries

    • @alanb4778
      @alanb4778  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have about 400 feet of ditches to mow. I've never ran the batteries down. If I skip mowing for a while ant the grass is high, it will start to slow down a bit toward the end. Sometimes I will put it on the charger for a while just to take a break from the Florida heat.

      @@alanb4778 thanks for getting back to me I had some other questions is there another way I could talk to you about it ....my dad has ditch that borders his 20 acres and Im wanting to try this

      @@alanb4778 I also was wondering where I could get a motor like what you used.....I don't have anything with that kind of motor and will have to buy one so I would need to know the specs I'm guessing on that motor......

    • @alanb4778

      @@bretharrawood3783 With that large amount of land, I don't think this little thing would do the trick. If I did not have a chain-link fence on one side of the ditch, I would connect the mower part to the side of a riding mower. With 20 acres, I would probably use a motor from a gas-powered weed eater instead of the electric one and as I said, connect the mower and the arms on the side of a riding mower.

      @@alanb4778 well it's about 1/4 mile of ditch on front and 1/4 down one side......I was gonna mount a bank of batteries like what you had to the back of my garden tractor and then make me a retractable and fold up boom for the mower head......thats why I was wondering about the info on the motor you used and charge time in batteries and run time on em and how long it took to charge em back
