Responses to common comments: My normal intro will be back, don't worry. Yes, I was tired. Work does that to you. I didn't take up the baseboards because I have an entire house to do, and I don't mind adding quarter round. Audio issue was my shirt rubbing on the lav mic. We've got it fixed now, no worries.
Did you save any leftover flooring? That stuff can be clicked (and glued) together to make prefinished tabletops, cabinet sides, shelves, & more. (you'll have to coat any exposed edges).
Great Video. You presented a time challenge and tackled it in the most efficient manor. I'm amazed at some of the comments like asking to go deeper into detail about installing outlets, etc. There are a million YT vids on those topics already. I have installed a few floating floors in smaller rooms and am not a fan. But that was several years ago and they may have made improvements. I installed traditional tongue-in-groove oak nail down hardwood flooring in place of carpeting in the upstairs master bedroom and hallways. It was pre-finished but could be sanded and refinished when needed years later. It went together well and saved the time, mess and smell of the last step of sanding the entire floor and finishing it. It has held up well for over ten years. It is more work and time to install but to me much more robust and solid.
What a bummer, making a whole video then discovering your sound is jacked. I'm glad you decided to show it anyways. I enjoyed it. Hope you figured out the issue for your future sanity. Floor looks great!
These reno videos couldn't come at a better time. My partner and I just purchased our first home and I guarantee we'll be putting some of these tips to work. Thanks for the great content, as always!
Great job! Looking forward to this series especially the bathrooms if you tackle those by yourself. Nice call switching out the outlets too. You can always reuse the outlets in the shop.
That little alcove would make a great desk/computer/study area for the boys. A wraparound desk and a few computer stations and they could each have their own space.
Great job. It looks like it's going to be a great room for your kids. It is amazing how a few improvements can completely change a room. When I was in real estate rehabbing, we called this a paint and carpet job, because you didn't need much to turn something around and make it look great. Congrats and I can't wait for more in this series.
If you're pulling all the carpet out of your house, buy several extra furnace filters. They will clog up faster without carpet helping to filter the air. Also, I love the new series and can't wait for the next episode. Keep up the good work man!
You know, it's actually really awesome to hear you say that . Part of my intention with this series is to distill down what those shows cover in less time and more info. Thanks :)
Do you ever slow down? Between the move and the twitch talks and making videos, you've gotta be exhausted. I think you deserve a video that's just you drinking a beer and watching an episode of Ducktales or something. Actually, I think you should totally make that video.
Cherry flooring looks really nice, maybe even maple too depending on your color preference. Good luck with the new house Bob! Hope to see more updates :D
OMG that little nook would make an awesome reading area with a cargo net hammock or study area with bench seats and table in the middle or a walk in robe so so much potential in one little space. The room looks awesome so far!
I love a home renovation series! I gotta give you props for handling the sound errors like a boss. I've never seen someone handle them so well, I mean in post editing with the clearly readable subtitles. Very well done video, I absolutely love the content, keep up the great work, Bob!
Like the room lots. Turned out great. Agree about the hanging bar, had the opportunity to use one when I installed my first ceiling fan. It came in really handy.
Love the nod to Chip and Jo with the #demoday shirt!! The new format works well for a TH-cam video, nicely done. One thing you could add which would be cool is a before and after shot at the end. Also we think you did pretty well with the audio issues :) more funny than annoying
sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Zyaire Lian thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hi just letting you know. I'm 14 from ireland and I'm building myself a bed with storage space underneath and I got like 95% of my ideas/plans for this from your channel. Thanks a lot. Love the content.
Love these home renovation videos. Gives a change of pace without slowing it down... if that makes sense. Doing the same thing over and over gets slow after a while and so does trying to come up with new ideas. This is real :)
Happy you were able to get this uploaded even with the audio issues. Handling it with the subtitles was perfect, I was still able to follow along perfectly fine. Hope you have luck with the products your trying out to remedy these issues!!
Make the alcove with the round window into a " space room", like the view from ISS! Split level platform and add spacey components all around. Or whatever you feel...I'm sure it will be awesome and fun to watch!
"Bonus rooms" as I have always heard them referred to, are rooms above a garage that was otherwise be wasted attic space. I think how the room is utilized (like as a kids bedroom) is just another reference to the same space.
It is fantastic to see your place coming together! I hope you guys enjoy & you enjoy getting to make it your own with all the chances to build on. Very excited to see more. I have an itch to do the same, only wish I weren't in an apartment. Good luck & can't wait for more!
Great video and really enjoying the home reno. I actually came across your closet/secret room as I’m doing the same in my daughters bedroom which is identical to your boys room. We’re in NC and we’re hit by the hurricane so my daughters room had to be put back together from the studs and that’s how we found all the extra space behind her walls. Great channel and content. So many great projects to work on and a reason to justify all the tools to my wife 😁
Might be a frayed or sheared cable in the cord for his microphone. When he moves, a few strands lose their connection, so you get missing data -- sometimes it's just distorted, sometimes the sound cuts out entirely.
Coming along nicely Bob! ..... perhaps that area of the room that you are undecided on could be closed off and be used as a walk in closet I'm sure as the boys grow up it'll be useful. It already has a light and the window should be sufficient lighting for during the day, maybe a nice wide opening like two sets of bifold doors..... Otherwise leave it open, slide a sofa against one of the side walls with a nice big TV on the opposite side, It would make a great video game/entertainment area and that way all the mess involved with that stuff could be kept out of the living room.
That flooring is awesome I have used throughout my whole house and it is perfect easy to put down and tear up if you have a problem I love all of your projects good job dude
Job well done. I'm a first time homeowner as of this spring and your videos are so inspiring and motivating to DIY and make stuff. I'm excited to be handy (especially if it helps the wallet) and your channel is a big help for they. Great job on the room and I look forward to all your future content!
I think that making videos out form the renovation of your house can be an amazing opportunity to show us how to do a lot of stuff that can be useful when trying to renew a house or just a single room! cannot wait to see another video of your home renovation series!
When I heard you talking about doing home reno on the podcast I was eager to see how you would fit so much info into your style of video production. I think you nailed it Bob, I love how quickly you cover everything but still supply enough of the basics for the average joe.
I would have loved to see more details about adding the electrical socket and removing the door trim / flipping the door. It seems like the kind of thing I would want to do but I'm not sure about the details. Great video!!
I loved the video. I been thinking about putting those floorboards in my house but I didn't know how I would go about it. Now I know that I have to leave some space between it and the wall so it can have room to expand. I love the home renovation videos itll be awesome if you kept them coming.
Loving the new video style! My dad has a converted shed we use as a man cave and the hardwood floor is caving in, might actually try out the click panels for the floor once we have it sorted out.
So I binged on your videos all summer. I used to think I'd have absolutely no use for it ever but I was hooked. And last week when I moved into my Junior year Dorm, two shelves came loose just as I was putting up stuff. All it took was one nail and some brad staples and I was hella proud. So thank you DIY-YODA! And I am looking forward to your Home Renovation Series☺
Although home renovation isn't as exciting as your normal builds, you have done an excellent job shooting this. I had questioned filming my own home renovations, but as always you have shown that it can be done in an interesting way. Thanks for the inspiration!
hi bob, nice video. nice floor, it works the same as laminate floors as we use in the netherlands. the look wood, but are something like MDF with a top layer. one tip regarding putting these floors together, i learned that its always better to lay them in stepwise. that way your line stays nice and straight. just because the floorboards are supporting each other from the first moment. also it makes sense to always try to start with a stepwise format where (depending on the length of the board, you chose to start with 1/2 of the board in case of short boards, or 2/3 and then the next row 1/3. and that repeats itself after that.. just wanted to give you that tip. looking forward to the next video. cheers.
Loved this! Excited to see more of this home series. I would love to see the rooms totally finished and decorated. Looking forward to the next room as well as your other fun projects!
Congratulations on your new home Bob. And one more comment. Your family is lucky to have YOU around with all tgis knowledge you carry, it's amazing what you'll manage to offer them ... Nicely done and all the best Bob :)
Awesome new serie! I'm looking forward to the next episodes as I am pretty much doing the same kind of things in my new home! Thanks for sharing your tips and techniques!
Enjoyed the video. I like the energy and variety you bring to them and will continue to watch regardless of the subject. Tough break on the audio issues, but appreciate the effort you made in adding the subtitles. Good luck, can't wait to see what's next.
As a pro floor installer for 10yrs. That click together hardwood is nice. You'll hate yourself after even a small room of glued tongue and groove floating wood. But you may want to look at floating luxury vinyl plank. We install more of that than anything else these days
Hey Bob, We bought our engineered bamboo flooring for $24 per square metre (approx 10 square feet, or so Google says). The boards were also 1.5m long (about 5 feet) so it was much quicker to lay down. The downside is you might have a bit more waste at the walls. This was in Australia, but no doubt you could find a similar product in America. When you're laying the boards, don't forget to tap each one on the exposed sides with a hammer (length ways and width ways). That will line all the boards up a bit better and prevent any gaps. Engineered bamboo is tough as nails, so it doesn't scratch easily. Being denser, if anyone (read: your kids) spill anything on the wood, it won't absorb it as quickly or as well, so you have a bit of time to soak it up. To prove this point, I built a bird house out of some of the scrap and left it out in the rain for 3 years. It's only just lifting the lacquer off the board this winter, so it's stood up well enough for me to not be overly cautious about spilling stuff (well, a little less cautious ;) ).
Another fantastic video! Love the home reno stuff and I think a lot of people can relate. I love the before and after. I think it would be interesting to get your take on the mindset of buying a home knowing that some reno can be done by the typical, everyday home owner. What to look for? What looks scary that really isn't? You just transformed an entire room. What did it cost? How long did it take? How many people helped? I love the podcast and your channel. Your content is awesome and I appreciate the effort you put into setting a goal of excellence. Nice job!
Joe L. here great job, and I saw you Lowes escape room show. Awesome. God bless you your family and your business as well as the people that work for you.
I think this is an awesome addition. A suggestion I have is a how to install wiring (Ethernet specifically) because a lot of homes don't have that built in. It would be cool to see a minimally invasive way of taking on that kind of project.
The outlet higher on the wall may have been for a TV...just a thought. The room looks great - bet it feel great to get started and have something done. Scott
I saw on This Old House where they used a compass to trace a door frame moulding onto a floorboard by measuring out the width of the moulding and tracing out to there. Saved them time rather than chip and cut away at it as you did in the video.
I know it's out of the realm of most of your other videos but I really like the ILTMS approach to home renovation and wouldn't mind in the least of seeing more of these videos in the future.
Looks great Bob. I'm definitely interested to see how you get on and any tips/ideas you have as I have a similar house renovation project I thought would be a good idea at the time!
This first instalment of your home renovation was great Bob but I have to say I missed your usual intro, please bring it back. I'm looking forward to the next episode!
Dude.. This looks epic. And I wish my bedroom was that huge when I was a child! Keep up the good work, and nice creative fix on the audio errors. Props to your editor, those are some epic subtitles my man
I love watching your videos you make it look simple and they are somewhat relaxing and enjoyable and you don't use the same TH-cam tracks like everyone else does
I am totally down with watching videos of your home renovation projects. I am interested to see if you show all the obstacles that show up when doing this sort of work. There always seems to be so many things that go wrong or get in the way unexpectedly. The room looks great.
Great video as always. One tip you probably know but someone following your video might not know. Leaving the existing floor as a base layer is fine, but when you add (vs replace) layers you also add height. Not a problem most of the time but since you were also converting the bathroom door to swing outward over this new floor, make sure you've measured whether the height would block the door. Probably still easier to modify or replace the door rather than pull up the linoleum, but worth being aware of. It seems like it wasn't a problem for you (linoleum is thin), and can fixed, but it can be a bummer if you only find that out at the very end of the installation. Also a lot of comments on whether you like to make stuff. You could always just like to renovate stuff for now.
As someone looking to buy a house in the near future, I am super looking forward to more home renovation type videos! If possible, would you mind going a bit more into what the costs associated with the project were and where you would have spent more/less money? Basically like what you did at the end of the video, but with actual numbers
Responses to common comments:
My normal intro will be back, don't worry.
Yes, I was tired. Work does that to you.
I didn't take up the baseboards because I have an entire house to do, and I don't mind adding quarter round.
Audio issue was my shirt rubbing on the lav mic. We've got it fixed now, no worries.
T. I love you
Really loving this new content, Bob. New style, new music, totally dig it man!
Thanks man!

Yeah, it was pretty frustrating but my editor is a wizard, so I'm happy with where we got. Definitely got it corrected for future stuff.
These reno videos couldn't come at a better time. My partner and I just purchased our first home and I guarantee we'll be putting some of these tips to work. Thanks for the great content, as always!
Well done !!! Looks great
Thanks man!
what Jimmy said!!!
Be careful Bob, Jimmy's got a few rooms he needs to get done.
@jimmydiresta nice to see you here man!
Great job! Looking forward to this series especially the bathrooms if you tackle those by yourself. Nice call switching out the outlets too. You can always reuse the outlets in the shop.
Thanks for this video Bob. I want to install hardwood into our home also and this is the first video that makes me feel like we can do it ourselves.
Awesome to hear! I've got another video coming soon on nail down floors as well.
I gotta say, that was excellent the way you edited this to account for the sound issues. Made it very easy to still follow along and not get lost.
Great Video. Really nice to see some "behind the scenes" stuff.
Thanks!
That little alcove would make a great desk/computer/study area for the boys. A wraparound desk and a few computer stations and they could each have their own space.
Yeeeey home renovation videos ! So excited about that series!
Awesome, thanks Nicolas!

Thanks for the tip!
I'm super stoked to see you bring your maker sensibilities to the world of home reno! Keep 'em comin', Bob!
Love it dude! Glad to see the renovation "stuff" on your channel. It's all the same, and it's all gooooood!
Thanks so much!
If only HGTV's home reno shows could be this quick, concise, and informative at the same time...
Hahaha! :) I don't slow down often, but that's because I love the things I get to do :) I do also like Ducktales though, so....
that sounds really cool yeah. Maybe a watch-along stream where he watches ducktales or something on twitch sounds like a great idea.
I Like To Make Stuff yes please do that!!!
"Mystery ILTMS Theater" - Bob and Family can crack jokes about the ducktales episode!
zioxei he can just drink root beer :P
Seriously no worries about the audio, appreciate you sharing your renovation and all the cool things you build
Hey, this is a suggestion for that alcove in the room, u could turn it in to a secret play room for ur kids
Totally! Could make a bookshelf or secret door like he did in a previous video!
ceiling texture is good. It hides small imperfections and makes the ceiling look better in the long term
can you do more maker 101s about electronics?
Hopefully at some point.
great video btw.
I love a home renovation series! I gotta give you props for handling the sound errors like a boss. I've never seen someone handle them so well, I mean in post editing with the clearly readable subtitles. Very well done video, I absolutely love the content, keep up the great work, Bob!
Thanks!
"Ceiling Paint" has a much higher titanium oxide content that plain old flat white paint, to give it higher reflective quality.
Good to know!
@Weston Wayne instablaster =)
@Zyaire Lian thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Zyaire Lian it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my account!
@Weston Wayne happy to help :D
Hi just letting you know. I'm 14 from ireland and I'm building myself a bed with storage space underneath and I got like 95% of my ideas/plans for this from your channel. Thanks a lot. Love the content.
Awesome!! Hope it goes well!
I Like To Make Stuff omg it means so much to me that you replied. I'll try send pics when I'm done.
Nice job Bob!
Love these home renovation videos. Gives a change of pace without slowing it down... if that makes sense. Doing the same thing over and over gets slow after a while and so does trying to come up with new ideas. This is real :)
Man that wall at 1:55 is begging for a secret door!
YEEEESSS
Bob has to see your comment! It's a great idea
YES!! Bob, your kids need a secret door!!!
Happy you were able to get this uploaded even with the audio issues. Handling it with the subtitles was perfect, I was still able to follow along perfectly fine. Hope you have luck with the products your trying out to remedy these issues!!
Umm... Are you no longer Bob? And do you no longer like to make stuff? :'(
I am!!!
LOL!
You missed your intro..... I guess too excited to get started
I know it will blow your mind but usually he says I'm bob @ i like to make stuff :O
Kody DuBarry He uploaded a video about making something 6 days ago. I don't know what you're talking about.
Thanks for sharing this renovation series, Bob. I like seeing your decision making process as well as the work itself. Great stuff!
What exactly did you use to paint the windows? I'm doing something very similar and it doesnt look as good as yours.
White primer, then 2 coats of semi gloss pure white (sherman williams)
Make the alcove with the round window into a " space room", like the view from ISS! Split level platform and add spacey components all around. Or whatever you feel...I'm sure it will be awesome and fun to watch!
I can't wrap my head around the terminology here... it's a "bonus room" but it's your kids bedroom?
Well, it WAS a bonus (extra) room, but we've converted it into a bedroom. Originally, my Grandad added the room to the house as his painting studio.
Ah, okay, so the kids bedroom(s) were going to be downstairs somewhere, and now those rooms are essentially the "bonus" rooms.
so you have moved into a family home that is cool
"Bonus rooms" as I have always heard them referred to, are rooms above a garage that was otherwise be wasted attic space. I think how the room is utilized (like as a kids bedroom) is just another reference to the same space.
Having three kids in a room like that seems a bit much
It is fantastic to see your place coming together! I hope you guys enjoy & you enjoy getting to make it your own with all the chances to build on. Very excited to see more. I have an itch to do the same, only wish I weren't in an apartment. Good luck & can't wait for more!
Your new House looks Nice!
It's great to see how to's on home renovation. As a new adult in the world, this'll be nice to watch and draw help from
Probably the best thing Ive ever watched.
😮
Loved how you fixed the audio situation too! The "read along" subtitles blended in perfectly in my opinion.
That's great to hear, thank you!
I Like To Make Stuff My pleasure!
Looking good bob
Thanks!
What happened at 2:12 with the audio? And 2:32 2:42?
Issues with muffling on the lavalier microphone 😔
TheHarryroks it sounds like when the grown-ups talks in peanuts
hahaha yeah!
or maybe some paranormal things happening disrupting the audio
Might be a frayed or sheared cable in the cord for his microphone. When he moves, a few strands lose their connection, so you get missing data -- sometimes it's just distorted, sometimes the sound cuts out entirely.
Coming along nicely Bob! ..... perhaps that area of the room that you are undecided on could be closed off and be used as a walk in closet I'm sure as the boys grow up it'll be useful. Reppin' the HGTV shirt nice!!
Chip and Joe are great!
we just went to their new building in waco, if you ever have the chance you should check it out!
I was hoping that was a hat-tip to Chip
That flooring is awesome I have used throughout my whole house and it is perfect easy to put down and tear up if you have a problem I love all of your projects good job dude
Yooooo noti squad
Camo_7 yo
YEAH!
I Like To Make Stuff I really enjoy your videos and I even made a case for my guitar with your videos!
Job well done. I'm a first time homeowner as of this spring and your videos are so inspiring and motivating to DIY and make stuff. I'm excited to be handy (especially if it helps the wallet) and your channel is a big help for they. Great job on the room and I look forward to all your future content!
3 boys in a single room.. good luck in ~5 years
I think that making videos out form the renovation of your house can be an amazing opportunity to show us how to do a lot of stuff that can be useful when trying to renew a house or just a single room! cannot wait to see another video of your home renovation series!
Nice #Demoday shirt someone has been watching hgtv 😂
Chip and Joe are awesome!
I Like To Make Stuff yup!
When I heard you talking about doing home reno on the podcast I was eager to see how you would fit so much info into your style of video production. I think you nailed it Bob, I love how quickly you cover everything but still supply enough of the basics for the average joe.
THat's awesome to hear Chad! I've been a little anxious about trying out this style of video, so that's encouraging to hear!
Glad to see you like the Valspar ceiling paint. I work at Lowes and sell at least a dozen gallons of it a day.

Ha! That's really awesome to hear Ana!! Thanks so much!
I love how the room turned out Bob! Your boys are going to love it!! Of course you can make even home renovation fun and easy to watch!
Although home renovation isn't as exciting as your normal builds, you have done an excellent job shooting this. I had questioned filming my own home renovations, but as always you have shown that it can be done in an interesting way. Thanks for the inspiration!

Loved this! Excited to see more of this home series. I would love to see the rooms totally finished and decorated. Looking forward to the next room as well as your other fun projects!
Great job on the improvements. Enjoyed watching and learning.
I am a fan of the renovation series, I love tips and seeing how various problems get solved.
Good luck with your new house , Bob , and i hope it will bring good days for you and your family.
Thanks!
I know moving is a tiring and stressful time, but take it easy as you look worn out. Great video and glad to see everyone is getting involved.
Congratulations on your new home Bob. And one more comment. Your family is lucky to have YOU around with all tgis knowledge you carry, it's amazing what you'll manage to offer them ... Nicely done and all the best Bob :)
My house has that lock together floor as well, it's really helpful if you spill water on it and need to prevent warping.
Awesome new serie! I'm looking forward to the next episodes as I am pretty much doing the same kind of things in my new home! Thanks for sharing your tips and techniques!
Really like this. Shows how to do simple things around the home that will make a big difference. Really want to see more.
Enjoyed the video. I like the energy and variety you bring to them and will continue to watch regardless of the subject. Tough break on the audio issues, but appreciate the effort you made in adding the subtitles. Good luck, can't wait to see what's next.
I lived in a great room by myself after 6 kids had to house the place. It was amazing having so much space.
As a pro floor installer for 10yrs. That click together hardwood is nice. You'll hate yourself after even a small room of glued tongue and groove floating wood. But you may want to look at floating luxury vinyl plank. We install more of that than anything else these days
Keep making more of these videos! I love watching these. Its really cool watching you do this, it also gives me some tips for when i redo my bedroom
Hey Bob,
We bought our engineered bamboo flooring for $24 per square metre (approx 10 square feet, or so Google says).
It's amazing how easily you can change the look of an entire room by changing every single thing in the room
Looks great Bob. I'm definitely interested to see how you get on and any tips/ideas you have as I have a similar house renovation project I thought would be a good idea at the time!
That came out really nice! Thank you for listing the materials you used.
Love the home reno stuff. but I'm REALLY excited about the shop reno whenever you get around to it
Good choice on the nail down stuff for the rest of the house. All those floating floors have issues with the tabs breaking and planks shifting.
Wow, I just moved into a house with a similar upstairs... great work and inspiring as always!
Great way to make the best of a tricky situation with your audio troubles!
An amazing transformation to the room as well.
Excellent work as always :)
The room looks great. Thanks for sharing and taking us along as you update the house.
As someone looking to buy a house in the near future, I am super looking forward to more home renovation type videos! If possible, would you mind going a bit more into what the costs associated with the project were and where you would have spent more/less money? Basically like what you did at the end of the video, but with actual numbers
Love it! I have been excitingly waiting for this series to start! Well done Bob! Well done!
Awesome, thanks Ryan!
