This BYD DMI hybrid suits me perfectly. I like that you can drive as an electric car and don't need to worry about charging it. If I really want to save few quid I can plug it in overnight and that will cover me all my city drivings.

The top spec turbo AWD twin electric motor model is 32,935 euros driveway registered and all taxes paid in Australia. You must have enormous Tariff import taxes!
Great review, great info on when the battery kicks in. Thats always something to think about with hybrids, no point having one if you have to drive it like miss daisy to get any benefit from the electric motor.
You never have to plug this system in a recharger, and the engine only runs the generator and won’t drive the wheels if you don’t push the accelerator hard.
I notice the BYD Seal U DM-i offers very good value for money, unlike the Honda CR-V e:PHEV which costs over £50,000 in the UK and only comes in front-wheel drive. Both of the cars I mentioned are made in China and they’re both over 4.7 metres long.
Just had the awd version go on company car list. Going to test drive one next week. I also have 204hp tiguan phev r-line fully speccd as an option....both similar money a month in tax... BYD interior looks waaaaay better than the vw tiguan though +4wd+faster. If test drive goes well this could well be my next car

But it depends on what you want. This has DC fast charging, the MG doesn't. But the MG wins in 0-60 time off the line unless you go for the AWD version of this. Each has its own advantages
It appears Brussels and Beijing appear to have reached a deal means that the very high tariffs wont happen. I can see this car selling very well but it is vital that quality and durability be very good.
Still not as efficient as a standard Rav4 though which has a lovely smooth 2.5 litre petrol engine. A lot to like about this car for sure but will wait for full review to be fully convinced. I'd still buy a Rav4 over this as things stand as it looks better, more efficient, bigger boot and better build quality. Toyota warranty, service and customer service is second to none in my opinion too

Can't speak to the electric range as it is fairly average in alignment with other competitors but the fuel tank is a lot bigger (60L) versus its competitors such as Kuga/Tucson/Tiguan which often have a smaller tank (40 ish litres) on the PHEV variant as the battery consumes fuel tank space. So this will have an overall much higher range on petrol alone
The engine only runs the generator and charges the battery and it stays in electric drive, if you drive normally and don’t go punching the accelerator. If you leave it in its normal smart drive mode the gas motor only comes in to assist the electric drive motors under heavy acceleration. Other wise it only charges the battery back to 100%. You never have to plug the car into a recharger if you don’t want.
Too hard to call just now. Every single used Seal on Carzone is in an MSL dealer who can control the values to a point. Needs to be 2025 and either a private sale or a non MSL dealer with a few of them to gauge where it’s at. I personally believe there is a difference with BYD compared to some other brands from that part of the world which might see their cars depreciating in a normal fashion. The blade battery, the warranty, the scale of the company and overall, the build quality of them. They don’t feel cheaply made from my experience of all the ones I’ve driven anyway.
