The difference between Toyota hybrid and Byd hybrid is that Toyota's excels in ICE tech, while BYD's excels in battery tech because it has a very big battery. Different age of hybrid technology.

I quite like it both the exterior and the interior. PHE is a plus to me. Just if I can get it here in Canada.😢
It will do great in Canada - the hybrid DM-i powertrain is very efficient and suits various climate well. That's why it's a top seller in China, which is geographically diverse, again not unlike Canada.
That's the problem: if all Chinese BEV manufacturers would have access to Canada, the EU, US and the UK car prices would drop extremely. US and EU oil and ICE industry will do everything to slow that down.

We only get 2 options and they both are pretty much top spec, front wheel drive or all wheel drive. All specs are pre much same.
I have seen two Song Plus in Dallas. One that I got close too had strange plates, didnt look like US plates.
This byd brand entry in our local market early on in 2024 and it's doing very good in sales in my country the republic of Trinidad and Tobago🇹🇹🇹🇹

This has just reached the Mexico market. How reliable would you say these are? Btw we got the version with bigger screen and wireless pads, but not 26kwh battery just the small one 🤔
Storage space in Chinese cars are less at times because like Europeans as well people travel light. Only the USA market likes excess space to take all their junk with them. It's similar to those people who go on cheap 3 day cruises to nowhere then bring 6 luggage. ( 1 luggage is usually for all the phone chargers and cables and the other luggage is for all their "CROCS" )😊
plug in hybrids are the way to go. 150km range is good for city drive and petrol for long drives

Majority of Chinese makes will not go hybrid in Europe as Pures are taking over the market and Chinese excel at them, they want to be seen as futuristic and generally have more new technology crammed in Pures etc

The AI and it's system is made for that market. What is the reasoning and need to assume and berate the AI for not understanding a English command? Would like to hear a response.
I have a song plus and Im from Mexico, it works perfectly in spanish, it shouldn’t be an issue for english.
Can they ship to Mexico or the US? the price in Mexico, 18kwh battery with 105km EV range, is about $45,000 usd minus the saving deductable on 16% vat and incentives on EV tech...so about $35,000 dollars net...CAn it be service by local dealers....

It would seem the most significant holdup for Chinese automakers is the lack of available ships to transport brand-new cars across the world. According to Daniel Nash, head of vehicle carriers at VesselsValue, Chinese automakers and their shipping lines have placed nearly all the 170 pending orders worldwide for new car-carrying vessels. Prior to the boom, only four car carriers were ordered.
It comes as the cost to hire a car-carrying ship has soared. In 2021, it would set a manufacturer back $16,000 per day. In 2023, just two years later, that number spiraled to $105,000 daily.
Shipbuilders quoted by The New York Times speak of round-the-clock shifts every day, with one welder doing 12-hour shifts with a two-hour break in the middle.
BYD, who are expected to be making a big push into Europe over the coming years, is spending close to $600 million for six of the largest car-carrying ships ever built. Most are scheduled for delivery in the next three years.

No mention of airbags? I understand it has 6- but opinions differ...2 front-head/2 front side curtains/2 rear side curtains. This means no front knee bags which is pretty basic IMHO. So... its lacking either front knee-bags or its lacking rear side curtains-either way thats not a good way to go

Yes, that means you cant use stress battery pack. Hence, over all weight is higher
it is a compromise but the general idea of PHEVs is that you can for example commute to work on pure electric, but if you need to go on longer trips, you don't need to worry about your electric range being too short because you can just go fill up with petrol at a station.
I get that, but now so many pure EVs are available, why would you ever buy the EV version of this?

@@林振华-t4v Song Plus DM-I has a curb weight of 1830 kg. Song Plus EV has a curb weight of 1920 to 2050 kg, depending on the battery. The PHEV is lighter than the BEV.
@@林振华-t4v For daily use you don't have to carry the exssesive 50kWh battery of a long-range EV, which is heavier and more expensive than a combustion engine.

Potentially. Their plug in hybrids have been going up in flames a bit in China however their pure EV's do not have any such issue. Kind of wish they'd ditch hybrids and go pure electric. The videos of their PHEVs going up is causing them brand damage.

PHEVs are such a waste of time. Having to own a wallbox or charger to charge the car every. single. day. just to get 80 miles or whatever range out if it is just dumb. I bet most owners don't even bother or allow the times they do to lapse, defeating the entire point of being a PHEV. At that point you're just dragging around 100s of Kgs of dead weight. I suppose the range of this car is somewhat better than most PHEVs though. Aside from that, now you have the complexity of ICE thrown into the car increasing the amount of servicing repairs it needs.
Pity to hear that PHEVs in YOUR country are trash.
Good thing there is a pure EV version of this car ... The sales figures will let us and BYD know which ones people prefer, as soon as the demand for PHEV dies, they'll stop selling them and push the pure EV instead ... Win-win for everyone
