Thanks for taking the time to make this video! I will be making a smoothie this afternoon and let you know how things look in the next few months. Thanks again!
“Spores, boys” made me think of Trailer Park Boys if they liked a different kind of reefer 😂 Great instruction - wish I saw this before I bought spores.
I used purple up and got great results fast. Trace elements is key from my experiences. I'm going to try your method along with purple up in my new tank. I bet I get crazy growth super fast. Also shutting down the filters just after adding and letting mix thoroughly through the water column allows the spores to settle on the rock. Needs to be off for anywhere from 15 mins to an hour or so. As long as your comfortable and longer the better. I had almost all my rock encrusted in 6 months using this method. Once you get good growth. Just shut filters off and use a toothbrush on some of the rock with good growth right in the tank. Brush toward bare spots and allow to settle as above. You'll see them fill in shortly. Great vid and great tip for new tanks. 👍👍
Kevin Piedt i have a tank that is 3 years old, grows corals wonderfully, including sps that has grown so much it is starting to block my mp10 lol... but no coralline!! And ive added it to the tank before. Well, my only thought is that the corals are stealing the elements before coralline can. I just added several coralline covered rocks, and am going to start dosing purple up. Wish me luck.
Thanks Farm Boy! Never thought of doing it this way. I have a bottle of Purple Up with no success. This smoothie concept makes perfects sense. Will try and report back in a month or so. Thanks again!
FARM BOY REEF that's a good vid good way of spreading it all about iv always taken a good bit of Coraline algae and just rubbed it on other bits of rock in the tank that seems to work like the workshop lol or man cave
What if oyu calcium is already mixed and in liquid form and Also my mag is already at 500 and trying to bring it down. I have coraline in one tank and other has very little and only on rocks! My newer tank has it every where the tank that dosnt have much is amost 5 years old too!I don't get it! They both have very similar parameter. I did do a lot of dosing of mb 7 to that one tank. Could that stop it from growing? i need it to grow on my newer acrylic frag racks because this racks keep getting this red stuff on them and gets on zoas and has killed them! I have treated sevral times for cyano and nothing works so it must be something else. maybe diatoms! Its only one the racks too and not sand bed! great video
You can take a shell from a hermit crab that has coraline on it. Just rub it all over the rock. Offer the crab a nice new shell and he will move so you can use it.
awesome vid man my tank is 5+ months happy and healthy I'll def be trying this out, I hav coralline algae growing on back glass and some rocks, I'll try a smoothie and see how it works ☺
I just started my salt water tank 4 weeks ago, a little green brownish algae growing on my dead rock landscape, can I still do this technique for coraline algae? thanks
I got some snails and hermit crabs that had it on their shells less than two weeks my tank is starting to grow it all over the rocks I have had a diatom bloom my blenny ate all of it then a green algae bloom and my benny ate all of that! he ate the rocks clean now the purple and pink scale like crust is forming and one of my snails shells is all coraline algae so now that is in bloom. I was just looking up videos to get it started but I think I will try this method on my friends tank he has not yet grown any yet.
Joe Garcia yes you should . Makes a healthier tank i think you are the first person that didn't want to speed up there coralline algae growth. I am into hard corals sps. You should get some try it out your way the natural way and see how it goes.. when you have thousands of dollars in corals you want to perfect your investment do the best you can. when it comes to sps better be on your game they will test you and your wallet. Wait until you have more fish and Corals you will wish you had a Protein skimmer the canisters filter will not cut it. Are aquariums are not the ocean it's a few gallons of water that needs us to look after it to survive everyone wishes that are tanks would run them selves. you told me you have only been in the hobby for 2 years you are still young in the hobby wait until you get a disease in your tank it happens seen it happen to my buddies tank not pretty. Nice vid i want to buy a piece of live rock from a store but dont want bring white spot into my tank does this recepie kill any parsites and possible white spot spors
Nice video, can you pls tell me what lights do i have to use? I have a fish only aquarium have common low out put t5 light two of them for 75gals but coraline does not grow, does china led strip lights work on coraline? Hope to hear feom you soon thanks.
Willy d. aquatics ***** pines8411 very true. Have you read what's in the the bottle. Calcium magnesium. Why pay them for the same stuff we already have. This way making the coralline algae smoothie you have the spoors alive ready to seed. Just like farming 😊😊😊plant that field watch it grow.
I scrapped th bottom of my overflow box. It came off in chunks easily with a razor. Blended it up with some calcium and magnesium and dropped it in. I shut off my return pump and just circulated for 30 min until it all settled. Hope to see an even larger bloom in a couple weeks. So I got new ro filters and resin. How often should I switch the membrane though. My Tds was not zero. I'm sure this caused the cyano. Should I run some chemi clean and do a water change with the new filters added to the unit...or skip the chemi and do a x2 15 - 20 % water changes over a week or two?
Very helpful, and informative. question: I have a 5 gallon nano reef tank with just live rock and a zebra clown I've had for 3 years. I have a small amount of coralline algae, but had much more a year or so ago....the tank has been up for just over 4 years now. I don't want to get into getting expensive lighting and like the look of coralline algae. I saw that Kent's has a coralline algae growing product for $6.99. Would this be ok to use in a small tank like mine, with stock LED lighting? The tank is in an area of my condo that receives a lot of indirect sunlight. Thank you!
Just switched my tank from a 56 to 90 Gallon seems like coralline is turn white. It just been about week and a half.. anything I should be concern with?
Hey, I'm looking at using coraline algae in an exhibition, how fast would the algae grow if I used this method? I would need for there to be a pretty big explosion of algae along the walls of the glass in a time span of about three weeks, u reckon its doable?
Great Trick To Get That MEAN RED-PURPLE "JEWELRY " To Grow Fast In A New Tank!......Great Video My Bro (Who Sounds Like He Is From "The Great White North!" (Canada)👍😁........Or At The Very Least Upper North Dakota, Minnesota?.......
So, any input on how to get the coralline algae off the front and sides of the interior walls? The tank is acrylic and I don't want to scratch it all up. Thanks!
Have u tried a credit card ! Plastic on plastic didn't scuff. Herd of people doing this before ? They make a scraper for acrylic I had one before. Think it's calla flipper.
Thanks for the input. I tried plastic of various thicknesses. Only thing that it scraped off well was the skin on the palm of my hand! Ended up taking a chance with a razor out of a box cutter. Worked well. I didn't scratch the acrylic at all, but I was painstakingly careful and took my time. Waiting for my hand to heal before getting back in the tank for the sides and back. Thanks for the response!
Great tip! but you would've got more spores draping the glass in the corners that way you keep the majority that you want on the glass. But thanks I'm going to try this 👍👍👍
So my tank is only 3 months old and I also started with dead pukani rock. I'm still fighting some diatoms although my phosphates and nitrates are very low to undetectable levels. Yes, a bit of cyano bacteria. I really want to purple up this stuff. Hope your method works. Thanks!
Hey nice that you are setting up a tank ! Yes in this hobby things move slow but it's the best way ! Best way to fight algae i find get your self a gfo reactor I run one on my tank never have algae problems. My method of growing coralline algae work great for me. Other reefs are having great results. If you ever need help with anything just hit me up I don't mind .
Thanks for you fast response! I really appreciated!!! So I noticed that coralline is starting to show up here and there but yes...not fast enough! Lol! You're right nothing good ever happens fast but when it comes to coralline I don't mind given it a push start! Ha! As for the algae is mainly cyano/red slime. Other than that the rocks are pretty clean. So as for the tank, I have about 15 frags (some acros, chalices. and some LPS) and so far so good. I was hesitant to put them in the tank as the tank has only been running for just over 3 months but again where's the fun in that! For the last 3 weeks my parameters have been very stable (ALK=12 dKH, CAL=440 ppm, MAG=1400 ppm, Nitrates=undetected with Salifert test kit, Phosphates=undetected with Hanna checker & Salifert). But I'm still seeing some cyano, although I think is receding slowly but surely. I also have been feeding my corals once a day, feeding my fish twice now (5 chromis, 1 yellow tang, and a bi-color blenny) but still running a very low-nutrient tank. I'm planning on adding more fish to up my nutrient import and maybe then I can stop feeding my corals so much. Any thoughts? Thanks again, Fed
+Shandon Burney i don't think it will hurt the algae since its going into his main tank, may mess up the parameters a bit, but not too much.... But why not add some alk. to even things out? mag., cal. and alk. need to be in check in order to work without dissipating your cal.
I've had my tank up for 2 months and I grow coraline algae like crazy! I have no live rock in my tank. I do have live sand, but I think that live san was dead when I added it because it was dry. . .
mine is barely going troght green coralline algae stage i introduce a huge 20 pound live rock in the tank and it went trough all satages brown alage diatom alage now they all dead and now is going trough green coralline algae i dose my tank every week with magnesium and calcium
hi mate grate vid can you do a vid on like top 5-10 books on corals woud be grate iv been in to reef keeping for a long time naw got a tank been running for 4months and is looking good but woud like to lern sum mor abut corals and the live with in the reef. Thanks
You see all those spores boys? Yeah, we're gonna grow that and smoke it boys. Sorry, you sound like Ricky from trailer park boys when you're cutting the coralline off xD
amazing channel! and never see this before! like to see and watch and learn! i just building up a tank.. and get some good info out your videos..!! 👍👍👍 i watch some videos of you, that your showing how it works with the salifert test! nice to see this! really good for the beginners just like iam!! butt maybe a question or tip?! your videos are more than far out the best what you can see! and understand! butt maybe you can show off in the camera the solution what is over?how to read this? and how you can read this of the white salifert paper what is included in the packed! for reefers is this no problem! butt for beginners it is good to see how you read everything, and understand what you are doing!! i see allot videos out there show how to do it fast?! butt never see step by step in the camera close that beginners understand the readings thanks allot and big support from the Netherlands The Dutch Man
I dose nothing. I use red sea coral pro salt which is high in cal alk and mag, and do 20% weekly water changes. After doing this for 3 weeks, i have purple dots developing on powerheads.
Thanks for a great video....can you let me know what your recipe measurements are for each ingredient for the smoothie is? (i.e. tank water, calcium and magnesium) Thanks!
I wouldn’t do this if you’re getting that much Coraline algae just scrape your glass. I’ve had tanks with so much coral and growth. I’ve had to soak the equipment in vinegar and scrape all the sides just to get rid of it. Once it starts growing, it’s really annoying.
yeah nice idea........,, shame your altering the parameters of your setup though as your basically adding neat mag and cal which if readings are high anyway can have adverse effects on your hard corals
Not a problem if you need any information hit me up more happy help. Thanks for watching my video. I hope it helped. Where are you from? What size tank so you have ?
I'm from Philadelphia. Got 125g tank, started almost a year ago. Got ich recently, and now got a dilemma what route to take to deal with it. Do you have a suggestion?
Hey ruslanta ich is a pain in the ass. First thing I would do go get garlic Guard add it to the food you feed your fish let it soak in the garlic for 1/2 hour.feed it to all your fish. Garlic helps with parasites on fish and worms that can live in there stomach. Keep your fish happy no stress in the tank. To battle ich raise the temp to 81 ich doesn't like warm temp this will start to kill it off. Run a uv sterilizer. When your tank is healthy again. Try to not let your tank temp fluctuate up and down ich loves this. Remember ich lives in all are tank it's waiting for a host to get stressed or sick so it can attach itself. When ich is on a fish and you see the white spots means it's close to the stage it's going to fall off and fall to the sand bed. I would get a goby sand sifter he will help you out by eating up the larva. If you can get the sick fish out give him a cooper bath it would help him. Just keep your fish happy ,healthy ,stress free and temp. Then you shouldn't have a problem and Quarantine your new fish before putting them in your main tank. I always give my fish garlic with there food keeps them extra healthy and it has vitamins as well. I wish you all the luck buddy please let me know how things are going. See what else we can do to fight the ich .
The best demonstration. I bought a 100ml vial of Coralline Algae. And followed your procedure.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! I will be making a smoothie this afternoon and let you know how things look in the next few months. Thanks again!
Should I drink the smoothie instead of a meal or with a meal?
+olemanwinter1 ALLL ABOOOOOIUUIIT THEM GAINZZ
Always with a meal, that way it seeds better :D
Very interesting, never knew you could do it this way. I've just used Purple Tech, calcium and mag dosing.
i know it is quite off topic but does anyone know of a good site to stream new tv shows online?
Very cool. Great video. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thanks under the tide.. Hope it helps out fellow reefers.
Under The Tide thanks buddy I am happy
You like the videos. Should have two new ones this week.

Beautiful Tank Farm Boy Reef. Thank you for sharing this. You have added a new follower :)
Hey thanks so much !!for checking them out !
This was brilliant 😎👌🏻Thanks.
Definitely going to try this, I'll have to ask my local saltwater store if they can scrape me some off. Seems like a good method though
Whoa...
That was pretty cool.
Definitely going to do this on my new tank!
Thanks
+David Miller thanks it works great

Thanks Farm Boy! Never thought of doing it this way. I have a bottle of Purple Up with no success. This smoothie concept makes perfects sense. Will try and report back in a month or so. Thanks again!
Glad it helped
Purple up contains NO ALGAE! You know this, right...
ussj4brolli thats tru but it does help it grow n u get a few trace elements like mag wich u got to have to absorb calcium
You ever do an update of your tank after using this method?
i made this yesterday how long you think it last live? I put it in a container with a top in my house. Staying 65 degrees to 70 degrees id say.
thanks for the idea farm boy!! i have used entire bottle of kent purple tech with no luck. but this seems bullet proof. thanks again!!
Do you recommend we turn our skimmer off before adding the Coraline Algae ?
Another great video man, super method too . 😀👍🏻
Oh Canada your accent is so recognizable
Great Video Farm Boy Reef, keep it up :)

Ryan, you're the Parrot Fish of TH-cam sir.
Lol that's true parrot fish are a big part of the ecosystem !!
Thanks for the video, it is very helpful and interesting.
Awesome way to make coralline algae.. Can I use purple up with the mixture in the blender. Out of seachem calcium advantage.
Thanks for putting this up! I will blending soon, too.
the Canadian is real in you boy
All thanks 😊
Great video farm boy. Btw that an awesome looking at tank

+Kyle Fauth thx
Great vid man. As soon as my tank finishes with diatonoms I'll do it
I can not wait to give this a try. Thank you.
Works better if you grind up the spores into a powder, blending it doesn't get it anywhere near as fine.
You can take a shell from a hermit crab that has coraline on it. Just rub it all over the rock. Offer the crab a nice new shell and he will move so you can use it.
Good idea .I'm gonna have to try it out. Thanks
Great idea. Thanks for showing us.
awesome vid man my tank is 5+ months happy and healthy I'll def be trying this out, I hav coralline algae growing on back glass and some rocks, I'll try a smoothie and see how it works ☺

Thanks again,
Fed
Nice video I think if you know your chemistry you could leave the mag and calcium out of the mix
I have don't all
Kinds of testing to see what works best. I do a lot testing. So my mix will be perfect.
+Shandon Burney i don't think it will hurt the algae since its going into his main tank, may mess up the parameters a bit, but not too much....
But why not add some alk. to even things out? mag., cal. and alk. need to be in check in order to work without dissipating your cal.
Thanks i have brought live rock with it on it and it never seems to take off so i will give this a go and see what happens
How long have you been seeding the tank wirh this method? Can you show some close up with white lights to see the true color. Thanks Reefer
Hey man I will do a video just for you get up and close with the coralline algae the way you want it sound good.
very cool thanks
abreezeducttesting not a problem man! Anytime
Well you forgot to tune your skimmer down or even of to let it settle smoothy :)
All is good
How often do you make that coralline smoothie?
Nice tank! How many gallons?
Are you actually going to set up a 1,000 gal resf tank?
Great tip Farm Boy
Thanks gene... Anytime. Where are you from? What size of tank to you have?
Northern California, Bay Area. Currently running 3 tanks, 38 and 75 mixed reefs, and my son's 10 g.
3 tanks nice ! I had 3 down graded lol!!
Thanks again.
Thanks lotta good Info!!
(I am now growing coralline algea in my body.)
u genius ! time to try it my self
Wow what a great idea!
Great smoothie! How long will it take to show some obvious results?
Not very long :)
Great method,
Thanks
I think coralline is growing in your right eye bro!!! :-) thanks for the tip

Hey Matt I can do a video on my book I have ! I do slot of reading on this hobby ! Thanks for checking out my videos !!!
R.I.P coralline spores.
LMFAO
Farm boy reef can I do this to a new tank that is still in the cycling mode
how much time does it take to cover the tank
how long does it take to start working?
You see all those spores boys? Yeah, we're gonna grow that and smoke it boys.
Sorry, you sound like Ricky from trailer park boys when you're cutting the coralline off xD
Marcus Cardenas we're going to take this coralline and turn in into a sh** load of coralline bubbles, it's the perfect plan. 😂
+ Misfit-Los nice !
haahahahah That's what I thought! Ricky Boy WEED! bahaha
I was waiting for Bubbles to show up, maybe Randy and Mr. Leahy too.
What is the salinity range coralline algae can live in?
you should turn off your protein skimmer for at least an hour including the return pump....
Subscribed.
Thanks for info.
What you are doing is cellular fragmentation not creating spores. :)
amazing channel! and never see this before! like to see and watch and learn! i just building up a tank..
and get some good info out your videos..!! 👍👍👍
i watch some videos of you, that your showing how it works with the salifert test! nice to see this! really good for the beginners just like iam!! butt maybe a question or tip?! your videos are more than far out the best what you can see! and understand! butt maybe you can show off in the camera the solution what is over?how to read this? and how you can read this of the white salifert paper what is included in the packed!
for reefers is this no problem! butt for beginners it is good to see how you read everything, and understand what you are doing!! i see allot videos out there show how to do it fast?! butt never see step by step in the camera close that beginners understand the readings
thanks allot and big support from the Netherlands
The Dutch Man
thanks! i will try it!
I dose nothing. I use red sea coral pro salt which is high in cal alk and mag, and do 20% weekly water changes. After doing this for 3 weeks, i have purple dots developing on powerheads.
Very cool
Thanks for a great video....can you let me know what your recipe measurements are for each ingredient for the smoothie is? (i.e. tank water, calcium and magnesium) Thanks!
Hey thanks ! Yes I will post them for you
I wouldn’t do this if you’re getting that much Coraline algae just scrape your glass. I’ve had tanks with so much coral and growth. I’ve had to soak the equipment in vinegar and scrape all the sides just to get rid of it. Once it starts growing, it’s really annoying.
I put some in my bong it's great
Im giving it a try.
yeah nice idea........,, shame your altering the parameters of your setup though as your basically adding neat mag and cal which if readings are high anyway can have adverse effects on your hard corals
Thanks . The tank will be fine it's a bullet
Good info, thanks.
Not a problem if you need any information hit me up more happy help. Thanks for watching my video. I hope it helped. Where are you from? What size tank so you have ?
Thanks man! Anytime. What size of tank do you have ?
FARM BOY REEF Thank you. Will do, hopefully it will work.
i got a big rock for my 10 gallon and i just sat in in the aquarium
