    15:02 Pay close attention to _exactly where_ on Charlie's shirt Nick decides to write.
    We'll wait.

    39:20 well I understand how this storyline is structured, I find people consistently forgetting that Charlie has always been there for Nick since the beginning when they build this relationship starting from friends. And yes there is no “turn”, this is how Nick & Charlie is, and always has been.

    I love your observations about Tara and Nick's friendship! One thing that I have also noticed is that when Tara gives advice to Nick, she realizes that she also needs to follow said advice!

    I dont think Jane's hold up was about sex (she already thought they were having sex back in August. We are in May). But yeah starting to stay over is a big step (that she didnt even say no to, just, not before your exam), and for me it was about lots of different things: still being scared of having Charlie away from her, changing his routine right before a stressful period (aka exams). And honestly, I agreed with her not saying immediatly yes and didnt agree with Charlie storming out and saying he can do what he wants (no, love. You are 16). But his immediate defensive reaction is Jane's fault, because of the way she has been in the past (she is doing better, but to rebuild that relationship, it needs more time). So I dont really blame him (and have to say, I love having Charlie being a bit of a moody teen sometimes, that talks back. It goes against the stereotypical way some people view him as this fragile shy little boy)
    (And yeah, ffs Julio. Get more involved !)

    In the comics we see more conversations between Julio and Jane and there we see Julio supporting Jane in her relationship with Charlie. Julio knows about Jane's past with her mum and so this seems to be a dynamic they've subconsciously agreed to.
    Also this passive parent dynamic is very realistic for a British father.

    I feel like Charlie and Tori snapping at Jane is definitely due to how she’s usually been. Jane is harsh a lot and Charlie has a lot of insecurities about his mental health so he of course jumped to “wow this is about me of course”. I do think that Jane has a point but because they don’t have a good relationship it comes off as attacking for Charlie. I do like Julio because he’s a sweet person but you’re right he doesn’t really speak up and that’s just as bad so both his parents have problems and they need to do better

    I’m glad I’m not the only one who isn’t happy that the dad leaves all these big talks and decisions to the mum and kids. The mum clearly struggles with the pressure. For whatever reason the dad has decided to be a passive parent and partner and it seems like Tori is trying to fill that gap and be Charlie’s second parent (which the mum has used)

      Charlie's dad has always left everything up to his mother.

    • @modestysnooze6154
      @modestysnooze6154 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      This is a good point. I do think it probably comes from Jane's need to control, when he does voice an opinion or gets involved, she contradicts or overrides him, so I think he probably thinks it works better if he leaves it up to her. Obviously there's a flaw in this but I can see how it came about.

      @@modestysnooze6154you see this dynamic in season 1. When Charlie’s school work was suffering, he agreed that Charlie needed to spend less time with Nick but that it didn't need to be a complete ban. But then the mom overruled and issued a total ban. The dad didn't object and just acquiesced without comment, even though he obviously disagreed. She's overbearing and controlling. He is kind and supportive, but very passive.

    On the note of Nick’s struggles being overlooked, it really illustrates the similarities of Nick and Charlie as individual characters. They both - as people - diminish or straight up deny their own struggles (like saying they’re fine or “it’s not a big deal enough to ask for help”). Until of course it reaches a point where they DO need help.
    As for the story itself approaching the Nick mental health arc, it seems most likely to be part of the last book based on the recent webcomic updates. Just like Charlie’s mental health journey taking a couple books/seasons to be addressed, Nick’s will also most likely take time to be explored. (Part of me kinda can’t wait to see him spiral a lil)

    I strongly disagree with your assessment with the Dad. It’s important and vital for Charlie and his Mom to build their own dynamic. Dad stepping in prevents them from building that because he would be managing it artificially. Parents need to talk privately about parenting issues (not in front of their children) which is what he did by checking in later. In my opinion, Dad handled this perfectly and allowed them to navigate their own interpersonal relationship.

    10:42 Did you miss Charlie’s reply though? He texted back “gay” that's why Tao said they flirt weird 😅
    Also why are people forgetting how Charlie supported Nick over 2 seasons if there's any “turns” its Nick’s turn to take care of Charlie this season. But yes there shouldn't be a turn thing, relationships should not be a competition. Nick has not been overlooked, he got 2 seasons of coming out issues in the spotlight. If the show wants to explore his mental health then that's something new for S4 but I don't know why people keep wanting to make Nick have all the storylines in all the seasons.

    Charlie was bullied constantly before this epoch, and he self harmed, which is prevalent when you see his scars on his arms when he refuses to take his shirt off in several scenes. He is constantly dealing with his body issues as well as lgbt issues, and also leaving an emotional abusive relationship with Ben. (Bless his heart, because he played such a great role, but I hope people separate the art from the person)

    22m mark - Charlie and his mother debating - I am routinely amazed at just how many reaction videos are posted where people criticize Charlie for thinking his mother is forbidding it in part because of his mental health and say that she's not at all saying it for that reason and completely ignore the fact that the very next words out of her mouth say its because he has been struggling with mental illness. Flat out IGNORE that he was, if fact, correct.

      and i disagree. jane Spring has never been a character williing to listen and discuss. NOTHING in her character development has shown that over the course of three seasons, which is why S3E8 is a milestone.

    It’s unfortunate all the hate Harry gets because Cormac seems like a perfectly lovely guy. I’ve seen him in interviews, and not only is he adorable, he’s also obviously intelligent and extremely knowledgeable about filmmaking.

    Charlies arc is the overall focus of the entire show. S1 E1 we begin the series with Charlie getting ready for school and meeting a friend (Ben) there for a kiss. Last year he was outed. Then the show moves to S3E8, ending with Charlie in bed with Nick after sex. He kisses Nick on the head, satisfied and ready to move forward.

    On my pov that elle interview was meant to be with her because she had “no knowledge” about the topic, because they invited “last week” a femenist ativist so maybe they wanted the interview to be unprofessional (on elle’s side) to make trans people look wrong

    I think it's interesting watching reactors react to Nick and Charlie's sex scenes and feel a certain way compared to reactors react to Isak and Evan's sex scenes on SKAM. Isak is the same age as Nick in his focused season. I wonder if it's the different tone. Isak's actor was also a similar age to Joe and Kit when he filmed his show in 2016. I guess I find it interesting.

    The argument with his mom frustrated me. And for once I am more team Jane. I see where she is coming from and they didn't let her talk. She knows that Charlie has a hard time with stressful and overwhelming situations. He is coming up on a stressful time in school and I can see her wanting him to keep focus and not let his highschool relationship be all he is thinking about instead. She is not saying no, she is saying basically, thank you for talking to me, I think maybe it should wait til after your exams in order to not be a distraction. I think they were unfair to her here. I also agree that Julio should have been involved.

      And Jane doesn't let Charlie talk. She talks over him when he tries to explain. It's not her rules it's the way she interacts with Charlie. Tao's mom has basically the same rules. no sleepovers and leaving the door open a little, but everyone loves her.

    • @shannancox6632
      @shannancox6632 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I think Charlie is defensive because of the way she's always talked to him in the past. Yes, things are better between them now, but there's a long history of her being harsh and dismissive. I think her position in this particular situation is totally reasonable but their relationship has always been fraught and Charlie reacted badly automatically.
