Damn I love all these production tips, it's the little details that really get me excited and make me fall in love with the whole production side of music
It's nice to see an incredibly talented person, at the top of their game. Not only does ILL Factor play keys, but he knows his software, recording engineering, and how to effectively use every feature and control available to him. You're A Master Bruh'! 😎
Hey man I'd been benefitting a lot from the EP Blueprint (thank you to you and Graham) and wow this is such an awesome tutorial. Learned a bunch of little nuggets here like that envelope thing for the snare sample, layering techniques, what those transient arrows were for, processing the drums, making those pads with serum, duplicating while holding option, and even using that legato button. I've been using ableton for over a year now, and gotten a good grasp of it, but it really inspires me to see someone so fluent in the language of the program. I aspire to be a producer like you, who can think of what sound he wants to hear and know immediately what to do to achieve it. :) Cheers
First time I heard that song I thought this is great production work. And now I watch your video and can confirm my first initial thought. Thanks for the video.
This dude just recreated this song in 20min, probably could've shaved a few minutes if he wasn't explaining things. Amazing what people with the knowledge can do.
Thank you for sharing! I fell in love with this song, and I just don't get bored of it. It's really nice to see it being broken down. Will definitely be watching more of your videos!
Wow! That was truly inspiring.. The way you explain in detail, I wished I had exposure to this kind of knowledge and a tutor like you few years ago 😎👌🏻 Cheers from Bangalore India! With lots of respect 🙏🏻
Fun to watch! Thanks for sharing. It's fun and inspiring to see how simple every element is (two plain saw-teeth - de-tune one etc). No intricate sound design exercises, just good arrangement and composing.
Man, I really miss Beat Academy. If this video with such valuable information and tricks is free content I can't imagine how amazing are the new Beat Academy courses. Thank you so much for the info and I hope to be back soon in the BA.
great tutorial..ive been producing old skool funk rnb for decades, but your modern production techniques i need to master in cubase/ studio one..great tutorial..thanks for the sample pack.
Why is anyone thumbs downing this video? Lol. It’s a free lesson people. And a great one at that. Y’all need to stop sippin’ your Haterade. Thanks Ill Factor, you the man! 👍👍
12:20 actually the added harmonics in the synth are the same in the 4th measure as in the 3rd. The notes are E and F#(which is the major 7th of the G chord the progression ends on)
The track is boring and uninspired compared to other nu-disco artists out there. Kirkpatrick's experience in the genre is negligible, so that's no surprise. But even worse, the track is combining elements that don't fit well together, it feels like two very different tracks from two different genres put together with minimum adjustment. That's probably also why it's Dua Lipa's least successful single in a long time despite heavy promo efforts. It blows my mind that somebody thought of this as a lead single, especially with the very high standards her former lead singles set.
@@olli2591 Not every song has to be spontaneous or energetic in order to be "good" and "Don't Start Now" is more or less a preview of her upcoming album so this isn't to stand on its own forever.
@@olli2591 That's the hot take I didn't expect to read. You neglect to mention that it isn't as successful as her past singles... because it's indeed a nu disco song in 2019! It doesn't fit today's mainstream pop's landscape at all. It's her most critically acclaimed single since Be The One, which you also didn't mention for some reason... Your bias is showing. Oh and looking at the charts just to check the facts, the song is still rising. It only came out four weeks ago so please, just think before you start speaking nonsense.
I am doing a remix to this track right now and wanted to say thanks! I always forget about the stock kontakt strings. That worked perfect. Great video too!!
Excellent tutorials ! It would really go a long way if you could also talk/ allow downloads of chord midi files as musicality comes from these chords and rhythms. Also the samples and loops used in the project would save us time when re-creating and learning. Thanks again.
I thought I heard Dua Lipa singing on this. Great work. I do hip hop/trap production but would like to do a track for Ms. Lipa and I see this. Thank you. 🎶💯💯🔥🔥✌
Georgous bassline, similar to the old skool Funky House bass of Ian Carey, Olav Basoski and Freemasons '98 - '05 era, could you do a tutorial that focuses more on this type of bassline? Thanks
At first I thought the title of this video was telling me that it was too late to start learning producing and that there's no point in starting now. But then I realized it was a song title lol

absolutely!

Agreed - overall it's not a great song in its raw songwriting but with its epic production it's good.
