I'm a little late to the party on this video but if you're checking your comments, here goes. I literally just ordered this same unit last night on a Cyber Monday deal. I've been looking at this type of heater for a while now and settled on the Toolbox 2 as my choice. There's a TON of videos on Diesel Heaters but YOU are the best at diving into the details about all of them. I was glad to see that you were impressed with this one since I've already ordered one. 🤣 Thanks for what you're doing to help us be informed on the pros and cons of each one.
Thank for going these reviews, really helps pick a unit out. Been watching some past videos about heaters. The one thing I noticed is with the unit, among others, run for 50 hours straight. No issues popped up. I like this Hcalory T2 suitcase model.
Check your heater inside to see if you’ve been sold a smaller heater inside the casing, I just sent mine back to Hcalory because of this issue, I have since been give a full refund.
Great video, thanks for taking the time. One comment; using that IR gun on reflective surfaces will give very inaccurate measurements. An easy trick is to put some black tape or Sharpie on the surface and use that as your target.
I wish the exhaust was out the side and not the front. I want to test a diesel heater in a canvas outfitters tent. The heater would take the place of the wood stove with the exhaust going out the top of the tent. Between this heater the wippro you reviewed last week - any thoughts on which would work best?
Yup agree, exhaust should be away from hot air coming out of unit , still using hose clamps on metal pipe, I thought hose clamps were for rubber not metal . There should be a provision for 12 volt pwr in case the pwr goes out. If your heater is putting out like crazy and all of a sudden your power goes out then what 🤷🏽♂️
Great job on the video, really informative. Just curious about how much ticking noise there is when it's on the different levels? Sometimes that can be a big deal when trying to sleep .:)
Heads up! I’ve just purchased the TB2 and I’ve now sent it back for a full refund due to the fact the heater inside is no bigger than a 5kw version. In the spec sheet it clearly states a longer aluminium heat exchanger which mine was not. Hcalory did sell a 6-8.5kw heater which is noticeably bigger (and kicks out more heat) and also has the 90mm air outlet but unfortunately the TB2 doesn’t house this bigger version which is a shame.
@ keep your eye on the internal power cables which are attached to the plug socket connected to the case, the cables were getting hot when using the mains AC to DC converter power pack. On the whole it’s a nice looking unit but but unfortunately it’s not user friendly when it comes to servicing it as you have to pretty much take the case apart to get the heater out.
When you are running on A/C, you have the losses of the inverter of the Bluetti D/C to A/C plus the loss of the converter from A/C to D/C. D/C to D/C is far more efficient.
Been eyeing these diesel heaters for my hunting needs for a while. Becuz it needs a power source, i cannot jump on the diesel heater wagon (i want to tho). If a battery can last these for 1-2 wks, i may give it a fair shake.
You hunt without without a vehicle? That could recharge your battery. 100ah lifepo4 would run this heater for a few days depending on how fast or high you run it
Figure out how many hours a day you'll need to run the heater and on what level. On low it may draw 1A (didn't measure this unit), so 100Ah will last less than 100 hours. Startup takes maybe 10-15A, high setting maybe around 2-3A, which I usually use for 15 mins before turning it to low. So for 14 days you could get 5 hours of heating each day on a 100Ah LiFePO4 battery.

There is no best layout for this kind of diesel heater, it is up to you how to route all those connections. At the bottom it has already open a square hole for you to re-route exhaust as you need. Something I really don't understand the small intake air system, it is just to get some fresh air to burn, there is no need to route the filter to the top to get super clean or fresh air. The hose also blocks the LED display. Just has an protruded extension from front or side to house the filter is far more than need. BTW, none or a few heater does put a placard to help translate E-code.
Hcalory Toolbox 2 is unfortunately not available for purchase. For the EU market Hcalory recommended TB2 Diesel Heater Toolbox2 KROAK. Unfortunately, it was not delivered after payment.
Do you know where the temp reading is coming from, bluetooth source, controller, or temp sensor within the unit? Asking to see if auto can be used in RTT over setting a bunch of timers.
There's a temp sensor on the top middle of the aluminum housing that is connected to the inside ECU that is then connected to the front controller unit.
Same all of the listings say 2024 model. I pinged hcalory to see if they would clarify but haven’t heard back yet. Not sure why the model date is a discrepancy. Very confusing to the consumer.
BUYER BE WARNED: Just to confirm that the TB2 I purchased had the 6-8.5kw heater housing but there was a smaller heater inside! And yet in there advertisement for this particular heater it clearly states the bigger heat exchanger, that’s why I purchased it. Check before you buy. Just to add a note…..Hcalory have refunded all of my money.
@@ArmenianI have since sent my TB2 back and I have received a full refund, these heaters are not as they are advertised and if you take yours apart you will see what I mean. The heater housing they have used is for the 6-8.5kw heater, the bigger better heater, but inside that bigger heater housing is a standard small heater, very naughty!
@@Sirtomalot-c5s thats messed up. And I have no clue why people are calling this the “2025” model because thats just causing more confusion. Hcalory pinged me back and stated clearly “Thank you for your mail. This is the latest heater TB2 developed this year, that is, in 2024. Please make sure the size and style will meet your needs. If you have any other problems, feel free to contact us.”
so the fan speed is that adjustable when using the heater? I have the original Hcalory and think the fan is too slow. 2nd question is the control unit on the front hard wired or is it bluetooth.. I've alway hated leaving them out in the weather in the snow or a cold rain.
I really like the app on the Hcalory Toolbox 2. I like the more compact size on the Wippro but I would be leaning Hcalory at this point if I had to choose. Taking it out camping in a month when it gets cooler so will see how it does
At around 6:20, the video states that there is a thermostat function in the app. If you keep the unit outside and pipe in the warm air to your camper, is there a way to measure the temperature inside of your camper?
Sadly no, they need a external temp sensor option for that scenario. But you can pick gear mode and run it on level 1 to 10 to control heat output, these heaters are harder on power if they start and stop so usually they are run continuously at one of the 10 power levels. Start up or shutdown requires the glow plug to activate causing electric power draw to go from 2or 3 amps with fan and control only to 11amps for a few minutes because glow plug current is added.
Exhaust should come out the side, never the same the end where the heat comes out. You risk having your heating hose drooping and coming into direct contact with your exhaust pipe.
NO WAY !!!!! ALL these units are the same in that the output heat is proportional to the fuel consumption. The ONLY way he is getting that consumption is to run the unit on around 1 kW/h which is the same as a 1 bar electric fire. IF you run it at max you would get at least ten times LESS time of use as the consumption is non linear. Snake oil shite.
I enjoyed this video, but I just wanted to point out that the exhaust pipe temperatures reported in this video are in all likelihood way too low. Here's why. First of all, you need to know the angular field of view of the radiative thermometer, and how accurately the laser pointer represents the area being measured. If the laser pointer is slightly in error or if field of view of the thermometer is larger than the thing you are trying to measure, you will get an average temperature of the object you are trying to measure along with its surroundings (which for the objects measured in this video, are much cooler). Second, temperatures reported by radiative thermometers are affected by two things: the actual temperature of the object being measured, and its thermal emissivity. Thermal emissivity ranges between 0.0 and 1.0, and determines the amount of electromagnetic radiation emitted at the thermal wavelengths measured by the radiative thermometer from an object at a given temperature. Radiative thermometers generally assume an emissivity of 0.98 or so, which produces reasonable temperature estimates for people and most natural materials. But if the emissivity of the object being measured is significantly less than 1.0 (which is the case for polished metal exhaust pipe from the heater in this video), the reported temperature will be significantly lower than its actual temperature. These two factors can explain why the measured temperature of the heated air that would be piped into your tent/RV as it exits the heater was 85 degrees hotter than the measured temperature of the exhaust pipe as it left the unit (see the video starting around 15:45).
@sherburnoutdoors I used your link and the code worked. Thank you!! Question please, if I have the unit plugged into 110V and I have a power outage, will this cause the unit to meltdown due to no power running the fan during shutdown mode? Can you connect both the A/C power supply and the D/C battery connection in case of an A/C power failure? I really appreciate your review. You did a great job. Thank you so much. ~fasteagle 🦅 🇺🇸
Thank you for the complement. You could connect to the power station with either ac or dc and then have the power station connected to the house power in a pass through mode. Will want to make sure the power station you are using a power station that supports pass through mode
@@sherburnoutdoors thank you so much for replying. I emailed the company in Hong Kong and they didn’t understand my question. I don’t have a power station. I’m in an RV and I want to connect the D/C power to the battery on my RV and ALSO plug it into 110 A/C power, so that if I have an A/C power outage, it will also be connected to the battery on my RV camper and the battery serve as a backup if the A/C power dies. Will this work? Thanks again. 🙏
Please explain how having the exhaust pipe and the heat duct discharge in the same end of the unit is better? The best discharge should be on the front of the unit where the display is. Isn't that what faces the hearing area.
At this point, I would choose the Hcalory, it is more efficient and quieter. I am actually doing a video this week looking at how quiet 4 different diesel heaters. The Hcalory is much quieter. Also looking at putting a quieter muffler on it to see the difference.
6 liters of diesel have up to 66kwh of energy. If it achieves 16.5 hours on full blast, that means it is capable to produce only 4kw including heat from the exhaust. I can't see any more pros than 4" blower exhaust and stylish enclosure. Even the heating unit is suspiciously similar to any other diesel heater. Not sure if that's enough to defend the double price in comparision to Vevor or other cheaper brands.
Bought a Hcalory TB2. Unfortunately my Toptes 580 carbon monoxide detector is showing the fresh air duct (positioned 16ft away from the heater) is producing 6 to 10 PPM which is concerning. Darn I was hoping to see 0. Not sure if I trust it. Thoughts? Thanks
@alexbrown5229 yea that would be nice. If I could change out the controller and have the updated app I would do that but I think the wiring is different
Just like most Chinese heaters they lie about output. My math indicates this heater is near a 4.5kw output. Maybe your reviews could start to include the math. Hold these guys accountable. 6 liters should only produce about 220k btus. 6 liters at 27300btus (8kw) should only run 8 hrs.
@@scottd8239Bingo! Reviewers loose credibility in my book if they don’t actually test the claims of the manufacturers. Maybe I’m being overly critical… I should think of these as more of a unboxing with a review. Not my cup of tea tho
I know you're American, but converting backwards and forwards into btu's makes it much more confusing. A litre of diesel contains 10kwh of energy. 6 contains 60kwh. 60/50= 1.2 kwh per hour or a maximum of 4100 btu per hour assuming a 100% fuel burn and including the energy in the exhaust.
His test was for maximum run time. Gear was set at its lowest setting. Rated kW is at gear 10, this would produce more heat, but significantly reduced run time.
It is running about 50 degrees cooler than the wippro on the low setting that is why it ran longer on low. It is also running about 50 degree cooler on the high setting as the wippro. It isn’t more efficient it just runs cooler requiring less fuel. It is a less powerful unit likely good for smaller spaces than the wippro. The gadgets and features are way better than the wippro however. The companies explanation basically says they think you are ignorant or stupid.
In your description (along with everyone else's) you list this as a 2025 upgrade. This is a 2024 upgrade. Nowhere can I find a 2025 upgrade. Even the Amazon listing states 2024. HCALORY 12V Portable Diesel Heater, 2024 upgrade Toolbox 2.
We just got our first diesel heater, HCalory, this one, and we put in the fuel and it immediately came out the bottom. Took it all apart and there’s a big hole in the bottom of the tank! Pieces missing. Totally not usable. Box looked repackaged. How can that be since this product is not returnable? It certainly was a piece of junk.
A bit of math on how many kW it actually has and how efficient it is: Diesel holds an energy of less than 9.8kWh per liter. If a heater "has" 8kW it has to burn a *minimum* of 0.8 liters per hour (at at purely theoretical efficiency of 100% - it's more likely way below 80%, i.e. it'll need more than 1 liter per hour). If it runs 50hrs with 6 liters (0.12 l/h), then the average power during that time was less than 1.2kW, probably less than 1kW.
Comparing level 1 to another manufacturer's level 1 is not an accurate test. It's totally different from unit to unit. You need to test BTU output or these tests are meaningless. I do appreciate your effort.
Front exhaust is stupid. Should be side so it doesn’t get sucked in the intake and the output line won’t lay on it and melt off if u change it to a different hot out hose so u can reach things. Also If the exhaust falls off it blows hot air at your tent etc. just stupid.
so, as you have absolutely no concept as to how these work, let me tell you. You are setting it to output 1kW/h based on the fuel flow. that is miserable. That is the same as a 1 bar electric fire. If you run it at 1 kW you will get the performance you say. but it is abysmal. You make it sound like you are producing great heat output ! - you are NOT. Pathetic.
This as the same as the other Chinese designs however this one is worst. The exhaust is in the front along with the blower and the display is in the rear. How convenient is that in the dark. Reviewer is trashing the other units but failed to notice the flaws of this unit . Perfect example of a paid review 😂

This one is plug and play (power supply), light, looks nice, portable and the klicking noise is not that loud (because of case material and good mounting. Mobileapp works flawless and they do updates. It does its job and for the price i expect nothing anyway. The only thing to keep in mind if there is a thermostate planned in the future, check the controllers first on each solution to be compatible: Afterburner, Bureck, Ignite WiFi are the most common solutions.
this would be a great video if you told us if the unit heats up the space...dont care about how long it can go if it doesnt heat well

Wouldn't the exhaust burn the hose going up to the tent?
I thought about that and tried it out, I had it moved over to the side as it went up to the tent
Do you have to use the app to set it or can you do it manually?
@@robertschmidt9296 you can do it manually
@sherburnoutdoors thanks.
Should the pump no longer sit at 45 degrees
@@Rottweilerdsq this is the way it came
@@sherburnoutdoors hmm ok, thanks for the quick reply.
I never have one of these pumps in the horizontal position, anywhere from 45 degrees to vertical is what I would use.
Is this better than the Whippro 2024?
Do you know where the temp reading is coming from, bluetooth source, controller, or temp sensor within the unit? Asking to see if auto can be used in RTT over setting a bunch of timers.
@@WarthogOverland I believe it is in the display
There's a temp sensor on the top middle of the aluminum housing that is connected to the inside ECU that is then connected to the front controller unit.
I dont have electric at my campsite, will this function without electricity
No, use a power station
So the initial setup is just booking up the exhaust and putting fuel in? The lines are already setup inside?😅
Yes
I’ve clicked your link for this new 2025 item but when it takes you to the website the item shown is a 2024 model, can you please advise?
If had to pick between new WIPPRO and this one, do you have a preference?
I really like the app on the Hcalory Toolbox 2. I like the more compact size on the Wippro but I would be leaning Hcalory at this point if I had to choose. Taking it out camping in a month when it gets cooler so will see how it does
Thanks! I agree about app n main reason I’m considering this over Wippro.
How’s the noise level?
It is quiet, I am creating a new video this week putting a new muffler and a super quiet fuel pump on it to see if it gets any quieter
At around 6:20, the video states that there is a thermostat function in the app. If you keep the unit outside and pipe in the warm air to your camper, is there a way to measure the temperature inside of your camper?
@@davideckhardt2267 no
Theres a CO monitor that has a Temperature meter as well on amazon
Sadly no, they need a external temp sensor option for that scenario. But you can pick gear mode and run it on level 1 to 10 to control heat output, these heaters are harder on power if they start and stop so usually they are run continuously at one of the 10 power levels. Start up or shutdown requires the glow plug to activate causing electric power draw to go from 2or 3 amps with fan and control only to 11amps for a few minutes because glow plug current is added.
@@HawaiianZeus a thermometer is not a thermostat
@@frank-lr ill just be quiet from now on 😭
Exhaust should come out the side, never the same the end where the heat comes out. You risk having your heating hose drooping and coming into direct contact with your exhaust pipe.
How hot does the table get please on full power should it be on a ventilated metal tray maybe
Hcalory one seems to be the way to go with lower fuel use, better heat output, and a much easier-to-use APP.
@@fasteagle9959 anytime, glad it helped. I use BLUETTI AC180 and works great with the heaters and does pass through mode also
Does the Toolbox 2 come with a muffler?
It does
Please explain how having the exhaust pipe and the heat duct discharge in the same end of the unit is better? The best discharge should be on the front of the unit where the display is. Isn't that what faces the hearing area.
I HAVE THAT SAME QUESTION!!!! SEEMS BACKWARDS!
I just can't understand why the heat outlet comes out off the back.
This heater is on permanent back-order at amazon as of 1/15/2025. Rats.
Would you buy this over the WIPPRO?
At this point, I would choose the Hcalory, it is more efficient and quieter. I am actually doing a video this week looking at how quiet 4 different diesel heaters. The Hcalory is much quieter. Also looking at putting a quieter muffler on it to see the difference.
@@sherburnoutdoors Thank you for the insight and the reviews! I'm going to purchase one for my shop.
discount code doesn't work
6 liters of diesel have up to 66kwh of energy.
ON AMAZON, IT SAYS THAT IS A 2024 UPGRADE, NOT 2025.
Dont like the exhaust same side that wont work for most use
Bought a Hcalory TB2. Unfortunately my Toptes 580 carbon monoxide detector is showing the fresh air duct (positioned 16ft away from the heater) is producing 6 to 10 PPM which is concerning. Darn I was hoping to see 0. Not sure if I trust it. Thoughts? Thanks
The exhaust coming out of the front is the worst, you want to blow the heat into the room and the exhaust is aimed the same way, just wrong.
Wish the hcalory app worked for the previous gen toolbox heater cause I hate that app
Same here man. I want F° haha
@alexbrown5229 yea that would be nice. If I could change out the controller and have the updated app I would do that but I think the wiring is different
@@stevenbrown2039 yeah I considered the afterburner controller but yeah it does not work on the hcalory bummer
@@alexbrown5229 yea sucks looks like I'm gonna have to buy a whole new heater if I want the new app
I would say it’s less than that
I would definitely like to see these reviewers call them out on that also, but then they probably wouldn't get any more free merchandise to review.
$184 Black Friday price
Yeah, that's a deal for this heater.
Frank is beautiful
No it was 49 Hours and 54 minutes you forgot the 5 minute shutdown not 50 hours and 1 minute
A hole saw will solve the inability to see how much fuel you have.
The 50hr test was on low...
Comparing level 1 to another manufacturer's level 1 is not an accurate test. It's totally different from unit to unit. You need to test BTU output or these tests are meaningless. I do appreciate your effort.
Still looks the same and work the same ssss.
Front exhaust is stupid. Should be side so it doesn’t get sucked in the intake and the output line won’t lay on it and melt off if u change it to a different hot out hose so u can reach things. Also
If the exhaust falls off it blows hot air at your tent etc. just stupid.
Same concern! Maybe still need the protection of soup/bean cans shrouding the exhaust line.
Intake and exhaust are on opposite ends.
so, as you have absolutely no concept as to how these work, let me tell you. You are setting it to output 1kW/h based on the fuel flow. that is miserable. That is the same as a 1 bar electric fire. If you run it at 1 kW you will get the performance you say. but it is abysmal. You make it sound like you are producing great heat output ! - you are NOT. Pathetic.
This is the dumbest comment I have ever heard, I have been out on countless camping trips with these on low and have to open the tent windows
This as the same as the other Chinese designs however this one is worst. The exhaust is in the front along with the blower and the display is in the rear. How convenient is that in the dark. Reviewer is trashing the other units but failed to notice the flaws of this unit . Perfect example of a paid review 😂
