Picked up a few big tips in this one and i have been watching allot of videos lately to educate myself. Thank you for sharing as i am a DIY guy. I'm so excited to build my new Sunroom and my confidence is high with all the great videos available.
When i think about mixing bags of concrete and doing the prep work to save some jing....then i watch one of these videos and understand you need a squad of well trained concrete men to do it right. thanks for reaffirming for me....the two jobs i don't like doing are reroofing and concrete. Hard work guys...job well done.
Glad you mentioned it. I was going to say any rain water won't drain off that patio until the dirt around it was taken down or drain tile installed. Great work!
The owners probably been dreaming of doing the slab in his yard for 30 years and David comes in and completes the dream to perfection, I know that's how I felt when I finally poured mine, not everybody has the money to get quality work but its worth it in the end if you can find good honest people.
I fully understand that quality work costs money. What I find where I live; on the east coast, is that it's impossible to get anyone to quote a job. It seems like unless you're ready to tell the contractor to do the job they won't give you a quote.
You're absolutely right. Took my dad 40 years before finally pouring his dream patio. He never had the money and didn't trust contractors anyway. Took a lot of research to find trustworthy people.
i like how professional you are guys I do love concrete but after i watched your videos I liked it more and more I would like to join you in a project to learn from you and get some of your passion in concreting
Hey Dave Odell would it be possible for you to do a video on how you got into concrete ? your brother does concrete as well, was your father in concrete? maybe a story of your family history and how you guys got into concrete please 🙏🏻
It would be better if it were a married couple with names of Horsehair and Nylon. And of course, their kids would be...well... 50% Horsehair and 50% Nylon.
Hey Mr. Odell, those city guys were pouring some kind of mixture in to a mold for traffic dividers and guess what! After they removed the molds, they put blankets on the concrete and put a sprinkler on them to keep them wet. When i asked them if they knew what they were doing they said that the wet blankets aren't just for stopping fun from happening but they also help prevent cracking. So i have thought long and hard about everything you learnt me and then i thought super long and super duper hard about the city guys and i think I started to get my head wrapped around this cracking thing... I think it might have something to do with the water and the volume it has and how there's less of it when it dries out which i think makes the concrete shrink and crack!
I really like your videos, you are one of the best I have seen doing this job. But I have a question, why in this job, did you not use dowels on the foundations of the house? In other videos, I have seen that for smaller areas, you use dowels. Thank you very much, you guys are an amazing team.
I can hear Mike Haduck for 10 minutes telling us how that concrete better not touch that chimney or the house or it’ll crack, would love to see you guys do some collabs too bad you live so far from each other
Very professional work! I am in Montana with heavy freeze thaw cycles, also on heavy clay with bad drainage. Should the patio slab be pinned to the house foundation? Also I was wondering if a turndown pad would be beneficial? Thanks again
Nice patio! I've got one just like it planned but the ground is absolutely full of rock and boulders. I'm not sure I can get those footings under the posts deep enough. Any tips other than dig, dig, dig.
Fiberglass infused concrete is a good idea. It would probably solve a lot of cracking issues over thermal expansion in weather. What I find a little strange is the seems you cut in only at the surface? In all concrete work I have seen the seam is all the way through. So what purpose is achieved by only cutting it in at the surface and not poured in sets creating the seem in between each section?
What do you do besides the cuts for possible earthquake. We have small ones in Texas I just wondered the difference in pouring concrete. Beautiful job!
Normal concrete/rebar can be recycled at about 99% or so. I can imagine that fiber glass concrete mix ends up in a landfill or is only usuable partially or for very lower quality concrete as the fibre glass cannot be seperated from the concrete anymore
What great timing you guys have! You always manage to get the job finished just before the end of the video! 😀
It would be nice to see the homeowners finished project.
I would like to see it also
He decided he wanted an underground pool instead. lol jk.
I love how you are not messy, always everything under control
That's the key to a smooth operation
I also had a Concrete Patio installed!! It was one of the best investments Ive made so far!!!
I concur

You make it look easy, but I know it is a lot of prep work to make it right. Appreciate your time you take in making these videos.
You are very welcome

After watching these vids for awhile I found myself today watching a crew doing a sidewalk near my work on lunch break.
I do that all the time
Glad you mentioned it. I was going to say any rain water won't drain off that patio until the dirt around it was taken down or drain tile installed. Great work!

I'd love to see final product but it's the home owners project,... not Odell project. Maybe he can do a revisit video and show us.
this is not a DIY. this is when you need the pros.... :-) that said, nice video and very educational.

Would be neat to see the fully finished product by the homeowner. Nice video, thanks.
Yes it would.
I may go back to put the surrounding concrete in around the addition
Go back to it after the completion of the patio and grill/island installations, would Iove to see the finish product.
Good idea
Awesome craftsmanship.

Laying the concrete and smoothing it out oddly satisfying lol

It's called a weakened plane joint. that's where it will want to crack because its thinner there now.
That’s a really good job you guys did here, Which State are you guys located?
CA
Great job!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Im always curious how you feel about owners who stand around and watch you
Great
Helo? Sir great job,how big are the footings? And the pipes for electrical already has the wires?
The wires have been pulled already.
Footings are 18" x 18"
Nice work
Thanks for the visit
What do you do besides the cuts for possible earthquake. We have small ones in Texas I just wondered the difference in pouring concrete. Beautiful job!
Rebar helps
Normal concrete/rebar can be recycled at about 99% or so. I can imagine that fiber glass concrete mix ends up in a landfill or is only usuable partially or for very lower quality concrete as the fibre glass cannot be seperated from the concrete anymore
The fiber will make it better whatever it's in
We gotta a see an after the porch is built
Good idea
Me too
Instead of pouring for the 18" x 18" post footings, could the posts be secured using post anchors and lag screws after the concrete is poured?
Not as strong but it will work
Nice

Beautiful job. Are there any issues with the sheer characteristics of the fiberglass rebar? Thank you for your video!
This type of fiberglass is specifically designed for 4" concrete. Other designed fiberglass can replace all steel reinforcement.
