Thank You for this Video... Well, where to start.... I owned the CTX3000... Nice updated sound engine, but that was it.... Basically, the CTX3000 is a updated CTK model.... I really loved the new AIX sounds, but the Operating System on the Keyboard is awful! Too many menus to scroll to get to a basic function... Some functions in the menus are in odd places, too... Styles on the Keyboard are not arranged well.... Sounds more like a repetitive Bad arranged midifile... I owned it for few months, then gave it away to a Friend who needed a Keyboard to start..... I bought a new Yamaha PSR x600 and Very happy with it!

I’m new to all this but from everything I’ve seen and read it does seem that Casio have come on in leaps and bounds recently. BUT - as a beginner I’ve enough to worry about, trying to learn to play, without faffing around with an over complicated UI. For that reason I have just bought a 463 and I’m loving it. If and when Casio sort out their UI I’d consider one in the future.

Hi Jeremy, nice and informative review as usual. 😎👍
As you know, I had both keyboards at home for two weeks and this is really a hard one. The styles of the Casio are way better. As for the sounds, some of the Yamaha sounds (Sax, harmonica...) are better but generally, I think that the sounds of the Casio are more usable (see my more detailed comment on the sounds lower).
As for the keybed, Casio is clearly the winner. Frankly, I found that the old PSR E433 and E343 had a wonderful keybed but that the newer PSR E models (363, 463...) have very mediocre keybed, unfortunately. I just loved the keybed of the CT-X3000 and I learned to play on acoustic pianos so I am very demanding as far as the touch quality of a keyboard is concerned.
One of the points were Yamaha is stronger than Casio is the fact that you can record yourself without any additional hardware on the E463 - very convenient for beginners, or people who don’t want to mess around with a computer or an iPad.
I really hope that in the next two years, Casio with come with a keyboard with the AiX chip AND a friendly user interface. It is a shame to put such a high quality sound chip under such a clumsy interface, to say the least.
    Best Regards 🙂🎼

Chris James If you are a beginner, rather go for the Yamaha PSR E363 or the Casio CT-X800 (better than the CT-X700 because it,has both a pithy bend and a slot for an USB stick for rhythms and MIDI files). The E463 and the CT-X3000 or 5000 are too complicated. Go to a music shop and try both keyboards for yourself, if possible with a friend who can play the keyboard or with your teacher. Cheers.

    Hi Jeremy,
I have been learning learning piano for almost 2 years now and am thinking to upgrade over my Yamaha PSR 295.
I have been using Yamaha for a very long time.
I am stuck whether to buy the Casio CTX5000 or the PSR e463.
I saw many videos in which you have been saying teh CT X is better than the Yamaha.
But since I use it mostly for Piano, should I buy The Casio or the Yamaha....
    Please Help Me....

    Hello Jeremy,
Does the Casio CTX3000 support USB Audio Playback like the Yamaha PSR e453 and e463 do?
For example, when connected to a computer over USB, can I play music via the USB from the speakers of the Casio CTX3000.
Also does CTX-3000 act as a midi controller for a VST on a DAW so that I can use it to play virtual instruments? (YES is my guess as I believe)

I am a little concerned with the non user friendliness of the Casio and would like to know if you could make a cheat sheet or shortcut, hot keys set up! I have a CTX-3000 and the sounds especially piano and organ sounds are fantastic. However, certain keys on the keyboard are really noisy and make a clacking sound and a few wobble sideways. Anybody else encounter this? I am thinking of the Yamaha PSR-EW410 76-key for my next keyboard. Is there any difference in the quality of the Casio and Yamaha keyboard keys? Thanks.

Hi Jeremy. I find this video very interesting. I would like to buy a new piano keyboard to start learning how to play it and I found these two models the best suits for me, especially because of the midi entrance so that I can connect them to my MacBook and use it in combination with GarageBand. That being said, which one of the two would you recommend me to start? Personally I believe that the Yamaha is a little bit better for me because of the higher sound similarity with a real piano and the fact that is more user friendly. Can you give me a suggestion please? I would highly appreciate! Especially if you also have other models to recommend me.

As always, a lot of good, concise info. It could, perhaps, have been rounded out with a little playing of each. People have different tastes in sounds ─ I think (like you I believe) Yamaha sounds are often more realistic, but others have different opinions, so in addition to the very brief statement you made, it would have just given a tidy conclusion by having a little music so viewers can hear if the sounds are consistent with prior (if any) experience.

I've got the CTK 7200 (predecessor to the CTX 5000) but have playing familiarity with the Yamaha PSR-S 670/775/950. Casio may have cleaned up the tones with the CTX series and bang for buck-wise, the Casios are hard to beat e.g. in my neck of the woods, New Zealand the Casio CTX-5000 is $850 vs $1900 for the Yamaha PSR-S670 (lowest in the PSRS series). But and this is a big BUT, if you're not technically inclined, recording/customising patterns, rhythms etc--is complex, time-consuming. If you're new to piano/keyboards I suggest you go with the E463. You may save money with the Casios, but the technical learning curve that the CTK or CTX series demand (to get the best out of them), can be frustrating if you're not the technical type. I gig with my keyboards and I'll be upgrading to a PSRS 775, at minimum. Probably gonna go with a 900 series because of the vocoder/voice effects. Yamaha demands a premium and it's understandable why. Fantastic sound straight out of the box. Realistic drums. Ease of us, especially in-performance/on the fly creating/customising--when gigging. The company also knows the market. The well-priced, easy to use PSR-E series for home/students. More expensive but powerfully featured (and still easy to use) PSR-S series for both the hobbyist and professional. Plus (and I've looked hard) second hand Yamaha keyboards don't lose much in value/price--on resale. Casio made big steps, features and price wise--but scrimped on ease-of-use and straight-out-of the box usability. A missed opportunity and crying shame really.

Jeremy See Hi Jeremy, honestly I doubt that Yamaha will put something revolutionary on the market. As far as the PSR E373 is concerned, they most probably will increase the number of styles, introduce one or two Sweet! or Cool! voices from more expensive models, maybe expand a bit the sampling function. But I doubt that the E series will ever be a serious contender for the CT-X series.

Casio's new AiX Sound Source is a game-changer. The AiX instruments even sound better than Casio's $1,1000 MZ-X500 4-year old aranger workstation which uses an MXi Sound Source. The AiX chip has many instruments that sound better than Casio's more expensive stage piano's which use the AiR Sound Source. Hopefully, Casio will add a touchscreen to their next generation of 76-Key WK series workstations. The WK's came out over 6-years ago.

Thinking to make a purchase of the Korg EK-50 or possibly Yamaha 463/410 but came across one more to consider. From what I can tell some are saying its the same as Roland E-X20 or a Medeli m361. For about $350 USD It seems to offer the most options 128 Voice polyphony, mic input, 10 watt speakers. I would love to know what you might think of the Kurzweil KP110? The feel of the keys, sounds, accuracy, quality etc. I hope you can help! Thanks in advance!

Your comparison between the two keyboards is very strange, because it seems that it is made on purpose to make the yamaha keyboard look bad, I don't know if you are sponsored by Casio, but your preference for the Casio keyboard is very evident, when you say that the Casio has everything you need and Yamaha does not, the only good thing you found in the Yamaha is that it is very easy to handle, is that an objective comment?
