  • Drawing on rare and classic performances, exclusive interviews, lengthy contributions from friends, colleagues, journalists, and experts, and many other features. In an age when Z-list celebrities garner more media attention than the truly gifted, Amy Winehouse is an anomaly - a woman of such extraordinary flair it beggars belief and a dream for the tabloids, all rolled into one.

I love the end of this documentary because it ends on such a high of "she's brilliant." What I hate a lot about a lot of youtube comments or press/media in general they focus on her faults, and that often happens with people who wear their heart and emotions on their sleeves but the truth is no matter how much you criticize her you will never be as brave as she was. And that goes for any artist being critiqued for that matter. You. Will. Never. Be. As. Brave. As. Her. So all of this "oh she's a wreck!" is for the birds and the beehives

The sad part of Amy’s downward spiral is the way her band performs. In the beginning they played with such joy and pride to be bringing the uniqueness of jazz to the masses. They when she hit her low the band played with their heads low. They don’t want to even look at the audience because they are a shame of the train wreck in the front of the stage.

Like many of these iconic superstars who die too young, they have deep seated, unresolved issues.
The emotion and lyrics attached to the songs are relateable to many, as each issue might touch someone's soul....
The music industry isnt classified as Sex, Drugs, RocknRoll for nothing....
While lesser drug/alcohol use can release creativity, deeper addiction/abuse pulls them into the black hole of self destruction....
Addiction is still very misunderstood and not as easy to treat as most think...
Theres the physical side, but the psychological side is The Minefield....
    Addiction is a Tragedy....
Regardless of how she sadly passed, her Music and Voice are an amazing legacy.....
I HOPE SHE RESTS IN ETERNAL PEACE....

Amy winehouse was original but highly influenced. Esther Phillips Ive only known a stranger" really let me see Amy influences were deeper than I thought. Not only are the vocals phrasing, instrumentation and the feeling in the song clearly influenced Amy. Or at least my thoughts. The lyrics also seem like it speaks to her life.

Nothing here that wasn’t explored in the AMY documentary on HBO which actually did a deeper dive on her life, but this was still a good overview of her career. She was such a unique talent. It’s a shame how she was destroyed by addiction.
It always astonishes me when looking back on her career, how heathy she looked at the beginning but then rapidly deteriorated after reaching the height of fame. Though Amy was responsible for her own choices which led to drugs, drink and subsequent addictions BFC was absolute trash. I don’t know if she loved him or if it was more that she was addicted to him and mistaken that for true love. It was a toxic relationship that played a huge role in her undoing.
Do I think she deserves icon status? I don’t know. Icons are usually widely admired and hold significant influence over a specific discipline. I think she is/was admired for her talent but unfortunately wasn’t around long enough to have an impact on the industry like an Elvis, MJ, Whitney, etc. Still her talent cannot be denied and should be celebrated.

It's a great song and I love Paloma's voice but I'd sell several organs to be able to hear her sing it. One of the only artists of recent decades that I truly, truly miss and mourn. think amy was somewhat of a sponge , she almost changed to sound like what ever she was listening to at the time , if she listened to dorris day her vocal reflected that ... how could she not be an icon ...you take a silhouette of amy .most people could tell you who it was .. he vocals cant be mistaken for anyone else ..and her writing for me is where i dont think she gets enough credit ... love is a losing game , genius writing ,its the perfect song .. unholy war , amazing love song ..i could be here all day making the point ... any musician worth there salt knows amy was a gifted musician , her understanding of time and ability to weave a lyric around a melody .and at the time she was going against the grain , carved her own path ... icon .think its more legend ... we all know how her ending happened but drink drugs and all that crap aside , when amy was on point its was plain to see her genius .. shy girl at heart and a sad loss to us all and all that loved her music ... doubt we will see the likes again ..

But actually, we all die at some point and so many Great talents are gone.. Billie Holiday and so many others. Perhaps she wasn't meant to live a long life. She achieved so much of what she wanted.. fantastic success in her music career, a man who she obviously loved deeply, loving parents and family, world wide fame and adoration and on and on.. What was there left for her ? Thank God she left us with an incredible body of work and many, many videos to enjoy. But just the same, i am saddened every time i listen to her or watch a video.

I think more that she in the not so good performances looks as like she did not wanted to do the performance. She always seemed to be honest. At this scale of it's very great and risky to be always authentic. But she did, in my opinion. The little club performances were more fitting to her than the festivals. She was too often misunderstood and reduced to her drug problems unfortunately.

It wasn't until after Amy died and I happened upon some of her music, that I took a closer look. I rather avoided any news of her when she was alive. SO much negativity, the drug use, the drinking, the toxic stumbling through life. Now, in death, the world is lending her a sympathetic hand, heralding her as an icon, so sad that she is "gone." And all the blame placed on Blake for causing her death as he reportedly introduced her to narcotics, a story misplaced blame and why, to explain Amy's rapid decline and death...? No one made her become an addict. Narcotics are everywhere; one person is not responsible for another's demise! It was her choice to numb all that ailed her with drugs and alcohol. I, for one, will try and celebrate her through some of her songs that I really like. All the rest is an intensely sad testimony to a life disrespected, both by Amy and the world.

Amy is a gorgeous, curvy woman. Behind the veil. She holds a higher ground now☝️ and can careless what f'ing idiots thought of her then and now. She left the destructive leaches from the past. Bless those that listen to the love from her voice she left us.🎵 Think positve thoughts of her and feel it.🌈 She is in a better place. A powerfful-beautiful spirit that is loved with the respect she deserves from the imperial realm. All angelic forces surround her. The Greats.👑🪽💫⚓️👁Peace & Love❤

her husband never loved her, just used and abused the sh*t out of her for his own gain and his ego! Shame on guys who act as if they own their women, and think is funny these girls love them for the idiots that they are, and not see it!!!!😥 I saw the same fate in Lisa Marie Priestley

I will never understand why she didnt wear her naturalhair it was so pretty down. That messy undone beehive was hideous. Sad story she was so young. Rip Amy Winehouse.

It's so sad that these artists that die too soon are not really recognized and respected until it's too late. She was so different and special. It's sad she didn't realize it. Hope she is no longer at torment.

I love Amy and think she is an icon. But thanks to drink and drugs most of her Black to Black era performances are a mess.. Even when she holds it together you can tell she’s in a state. Even the Grammy performance (where she was allegedly clean and dry) still sounds like she’s not 100%.

She lived her life her way. She committed suicide because she could not stand life without Blake whom was innocent in jail for a very long time. I blame her tragedy on society.

Amy Winehouse was talented and a good singer but she doesn't sound like a BLK woman. Stop that. We have a 🦝 problem in our group, that would cosign that they thought she was BLK. There is 1 woman that genuinely sounded like a sistah, Tina Marie.
Everybody else is doing their best imitation.
