This is a great movie and I can’t believe it’s so underrated. I know it’s usually very hard to decide which of Johnny Depp’s performances are best (because they’re all great) but this is one of my favorite performances by him. The director did a great job.
Even though it doesn't get a lot of recognition I think the portrayal of the mad hatter was the best. Listening to him explain the way he comes up with how he wants to play the characters is amazing.
It s a Stephen King Book after all but yea, had to watch it more than once to make sure l d fathemed it out. Well watched it about 50 times, but mostly because Depp is in a lot of the scenes and looks amazing in a filthy torn dressing gown and hair uncombed for a month.

Same w/ Master and Commander. better having one great film and one great and a dozen awful secquels/prequels/whateverthefuck. kinda like Pirates lol. first is so great and the next two are just to convoluted. tbf 2 and 3 are leagues better than 4 and 5. holy shit those were embarrassing to watch.

Johnny moves like Talent. The slight way he moves his head at the end of a sentence, the small movements he had when he was young and at times now show how talented this dude really is. Love him

So I've gotten jokes like "oh are you related to johnny? My last name in Dopp not Depp. And I've been denied to cash my paycheck, when my I.D says "Dopp" but the cursive on the check looks like "Depp". I'm going to sue johnny
One of my favorite dark movies I've ever seen. I remember thinking it was a standard horror movie from the TV commercials, and that was great. I was SO much more satisfied with what it actually was.
I just realized what has always “bothered” me about jd movies- As a person there is so much more depth to him that I can feel it when he acts-it always feels like “there’s more” Like I’m missing out He’s a gem though ❤️❤️

When i watch his movies i already know that will be something special, because Johnny takes such roles, that just Wowes you and puts in shock (positive or negative about the character). Movie "The tourist" also, i rly recommend, also very underrated.
I somewhat feel at odds with him in the same way. I always feel that his communication abilities, as a person, are less than sharp; almost as if he is trying to come across as a deep thinking individual, but when the thoughts come out, there doesn't seem to be the depth there that one would expect. So, i don't think that you're missing anything, i suspect you're like me and keep expecting there to be more depth but that there really isn't any more there. Perhaps even less than we think. Just saying..
I love this movie...dark but enlightening too. This could have been real life the way the mind can go off rails for some people. Great acting as always by Johnny!!!

I had no idea when I started watching it how very dark it was going to be. I typically refrain from watching movies of this genre, but I was knee-deep into it enjoying Johnny Depp's performance so much that I continued watching it to the end. The ending was shocking - I sat there in silence after it ended and was horrified at the realization that this type of thing could really happen; and that unbalanced people do actually walk around out there among us. Although Johnny did an exceptional job in his portrayal of the off-kilter man in this movie, I prefer to watch him in his usual fun-loving eccentric characters such as the Mad Hatter or Scissorhands. Although his performance in "Finding Neverland" was quite serious, that is one of my favorite movies of his.

I use to be an avid fan of Stephen King's. I bought every book he wrote, scaring myself terribly but still drawn to them. Then I became a Christian and realized just how horrific and outright demonic they were. I burned them all. When I saw this movie, didn't realize it was based on a SK book until after the fact. JD is a talented actor but it was truly a very disturbing movie. My fault for not checking closer because if a movie has a "horror" description listed on it, I pass it by. I should never have watched this one.
So happy to see this! I LOVE this movie, one of my favorites of JD's and agreed - highly underrated! It's just brilliantly made, a slow burn with a great twist, typical Stephen King adaptation, and LOTS of JD screen time, which is always fantastic.

Moved to a new state 1000 miles away from home. My bff told me I should go see a movie, by myself. I never did things alone. So being a huge JD and SK fan , Secret Window just happened to be at theaters, I had never enjoyed movie so much.

The attitude towards violence and the taste of the filmmaker is something I really appreciate. It's so great to be able to watch a terrifying movie without too much revolting blood and body matter.
We are truly heading into a modest society. Stores sell modest clothes, people want simple design for everything and people want non-violent/gory films.
This is a great movie and a good adaptation of Stephen King's short story. Johnny Depp and David Koebb do a damn good job. I always like John Turturro, Maria Bello, Timothy Hutton, and Charles S. Dutton. Damn good supporting cast.
I recently watched this film on my son’s recommendation and it was absolutely fascinating! Amazed I had not heard of it before and highly recommend it. I was glued to it from beginning to end and didn’t even have a coffee making break! Another example of Johnny Depp’s ability to portray a character and make him totally believable!
As a mental health profession, it is difficult for me to hear mental illness described as 'crazy'. It seems so rude. I do love this movie because it depicted mental illness and trauma very well. Johnny was hard working in this one. He was literally in every scene. JT was magnificent tho. amazing. Yes, and for Tim Hutton to make you hate him did an excellent job cuz you can't watch this and not hate him. the wife was so cruel even though she depicted herself as caring.
I remember when my mom cooked up some Corn on the Cobb, and it was a change from the vegetables that she usually cooked which were green beans, and creamed spinach, exactly like at Lawry's Prime Rib Restaurant in Beverly Hills, so I started chomping away eating the corn cobb, then the feeling of all of the remnants from the corn was all jammed up in my braces, and It seemed like it took forever, to get it all out with a tooth pick and dental floss. I never did that again with my braces on. Wow.

Thank you so much for this in depth look, and review, of "Secret Window", that movie is at the top of my faves, and it has so much different and unexpected things going for it, that it keeps you completely spellbound watching, and you cannot tear yourself away for the thought that you might miss something else, that is shocking to your Psyche.

I agree with you 💯. The actors 👏 all did a great job with their characters. Creepy, thrilling edge on your seat film. Johnny Depp and John Turturro scenes were so unbelievably 🔥 on fire. Mario Bello and Timothy Hutton were good in this film. Even the cleaning lady and the sheriff's parts were great. Plus I think Johnny is very sexy in this movie. I look forward to seeing what happens in the future with his acting, hopefully 🙏 Tim Burton 🙏 has a great role out there just waiting for Johnny to play. I love ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ 💕 Johnny and am glad he won his case against the lying troll he had the misfortune of being with. I love this 😀 movie 🎬 so much, from the cabin to his robe to him eating corn while wearing braces.

The attitude towards violence and the taste of the filmmaker is something I really appreciate. It's so great to be able to watch a terrifying movie without too much revolting blood and body matter.
We are truly heading into a modest society. Stores sell modest clothes, people want simple design for everything and people want non-violent/gory films.

This is a great movie and a good adaptation of Stephen King's short story. Johnny Depp and David Koebb do a damn good job. I always like John Turturro, Maria Bello, Timothy Hutton, and Charles S. Dutton. Damn good supporting cast.

I recently watched this film on my son’s recommendation and it was absolutely fascinating! Amazed I had not heard of it before and highly recommend it. I was glued to it from beginning to end and didn’t even have a coffee making break! Another example of Johnny Depp’s ability to portray a character and make him totally believable!
Loved this movie! I’ve watched it several times. JD is perfect in this role as is Tutoro and Bottoms. I’m off to watch it again!
As a mental health profession, it is difficult for me to hear mental illness described as 'crazy'. It seems so rude. I do love this movie because it depicted mental illness and trauma very well. Johnny was hard working in this one. He was literally in every scene. JT was magnificent tho. amazing. Yes, and for Tim Hutton to make you hate him did an excellent job cuz you can't watch this and not hate him. the wife was so cruel even though she depicted herself as caring.

Such a brilliant film
I remember when my mom cooked up some Corn on the Cobb, and it was a change from the vegetables that she usually cooked which were green beans, and creamed spinach, exactly like at Lawry's Prime Rib Restaurant in Beverly Hills, so I started chomping away eating the corn cobb, then the feeling of all of the remnants from the corn was all jammed up in my braces, and It seemed like it took forever, to get it all out with a tooth pick and dental floss. I never did that again with my braces on. Wow.
