I got a 30'' vert rn, i can touch rim at 5'7 but my vert isn't improving anymore so i quit months ago. I did all my workouts at home with no weights. After seeing this imma get back on the grind and hopefully i'll be able to dunk in a month or 2. I'm only 17 so i can't drive to the gym but i got 20 pound dumbbells at home
The fact that you play basketball on a regular makes a big difference. You're constantly using specific muscle groups that allow you to jump the way you do. For an average fit person that never plays or jumps they won't get that kind of results but can get some increase in their jump.

Not objective comparison at all. Should have tested same way (on VERTEC even before challenge). Because you won't touch so high on backboard (tested it myself plenty times), mainly on one foot jumps, because when jumping off one leg you also get a lot of horizontal distance too, and backboard is obstacle in this (+ your body might unconsciously jump a little bit earlier to avoid the obstacle and protect you, so you end up sticking sticker on backboard on your way down- when you are already getting low from the highest point of jump). Also how you hold sticker plays a role. Both tests should've been done on vertec.

Ik this may sound weird but i wanted to learn how to dunk so i did 300 calf raises a night for a week and i increased my vert by 3" but after a while it can be very stressful so alternate between squats and raises

Im 31, doing P90X on regular (on week 3 now) and im getting back in shape to ball by Spring. Watching this just really inspired me to get back heavy into jump training!
coaching my sons basketball team for 6 years now, I have the entire team (16 years old) skip rope for 15 minutes/day...every player on the team can dunk. Skipping gives your calves and achilles a great workout and lots of extra spring.

The easy way to make ur vertical increase if u can't afford any gym equipment is use ur surrounding like try jumping over 4 step at a time in a stair or try chasing someone while lifting something heavy and after that try jumping 1 hr with ur body straight like a lamp post and after that try doing a squat jump or frog jump

Congrats on your progress 👍 This got me thinking about individual progress and success. It's about how we view progress for ourselves not basing it off of benchmarks of sorts set by other people. Everyone is different and we should all set challenging, but realistic goals. How big of a step you take isn't that important as long as you're taking steps. Best done gradually. A big step for one individual can be small for another.

damn, you played college ball and never squatted? I'm shocked college ballers don't squat... I got my vertical up high by getting a 475 squat and doing jump squats when I was crazy with 315 this progress is actually insanity though. when I went from a 315 to 405 squat my vertical didn't even go up this much and that took almost a year
All college athletes should be squatting. And I'm guessing you didn't see any similar kind of increase in your vertical because you already had made your newbie gains. What I mean by that is like when you first start lifting, your nervous system adapts to the stress fairly quickly. And that will give you strength gains from better motor recruitment when you're lifting even though you haven't done much hypertrophy or growth. The same applies to the power when jumping. So you can get the nervous system and jumping form going fairly quickly with good lifting and plyoometric training. But to get those last few inches of what's possible takes years of training. When I was a longjumper it took four years to go from 36 inches to 42 inches and I'll probably never jump higher than that lol
Plenty of people have gotten results like this, with vertical continuing to increase. Check out Kneesovertoesguy on Instagram (Ben Patrick) who the Patrick Step Up is named after. Dude went from a 19" vert to 42" using theses excercises and has achieved excellent results with many others.
Callum Barnes i train legs twice a week in my gym, should I increase it ? Im 6ft3 and i have a 7ft10 standing reach,i can only get 2 inches higher than rim
@@randomguy0023 training something twice a week unfortunately shows and tells nothing, except you've got work ethic. That's key to training, but wanting specific goals or such it's far more important, what you actually do in those sessions. I'd advise checking Ben Patrick out, like I replied to the other person. I'm not an expert in vertical jump training, all I know I'd my vert has gone up a lot. His group has a dedicated jump coach as well, check him out. Their a great team, just message them. Ben regularly does Q&As on Instagram and answers EVERY question. His work ethic is crazy high. One thing's for sure you can increase your vert with training

It wouldn’t, since he already did the exercises they would be ineffective
He would prob have to do Tons of different plyo exercises plus weight lifting just to see a couple inches

coaching my sons basketball team for 6 years now, I have the entire team (16 years old) skip rope for 15 minutes/day...every player on the team can dunk. Skipping gives your calves and achilles a great workout and lots of extra spring.

The easy way to make ur vertical increase if u can't afford any gym equipment is use ur surrounding like try jumping over 4 step at a time in a stair or try chasing someone while lifting something heavy and after that try jumping 1 hr with ur body straight like a lamp post and after that try doing a squat jump or frog jump

This got me thinking about individual progress and success. It's about how we view progress for ourselves not basing it off of benchmarks of sorts set by other people.
Everyone is different and we should all set challenging, but realistic goals. How big of a step you take isn't that important as long as you're taking steps. Best done gradually.
A big step for one individual can be small for another.

Appreciate video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I would love your thoughts. Have you thought about - Schallingora Increase Capability Scheme (probably on Google)? It is a good one off guide for learning how to dunk like a total badass minus the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
Even though I wasn't first, I watched the entire video, and I really want to be able to dunk too. It's the summer holidays (Australia) and I'm starting to grind it out. damn, you played college ball and never squatted? I'm shocked college ballers don't squat... I got my vertical up high by getting a 475 squat and doing jump squats when I was crazy with 315
this progress is actually insanity though. when I went from a 315 to 405 squat my vertical didn't even go up this much and that took almost a year
All college athletes should be squatting. And I'm guessing you didn't see any similar kind of increase in your vertical because you already had made your newbie gains. What I mean by that is like when you first start lifting, your nervous system adapts to the stress fairly quickly. And that will give you strength gains from better motor recruitment when you're lifting even though you haven't done much hypertrophy or growth. The same applies to the power when jumping. So you can get the nervous system and jumping form going fairly quickly with good lifting and plyoometric training. But to get those last few inches of what's possible takes years of training. When I was a longjumper it took four years to go from 36 inches to 42 inches and I'll probably never jump higher than that lol

Plenty of people have gotten results like this, with vertical continuing to increase. Check out Kneesovertoesguy on Instagram (Ben Patrick) who the Patrick Step Up is named after. Dude went from a 19" vert to 42" using theses excercises and has achieved excellent results with many others.
Callum Barnes i train legs twice a week in my gym, should I increase it ? Im 6ft3 and i have a 7ft10 standing reach,i can only get 2 inches higher than rim
@@randomguy0023 training something twice a week unfortunately shows and tells nothing, except you've got work ethic. That's key to training, but wanting specific goals or such it's far more important, what you actually do in those sessions. I'd advise checking Ben Patrick out, like I replied to the other person. I'm not an expert in vertical jump training, all I know I'd my vert has gone up a lot. His group has a dedicated jump coach as well, check him out. Their a great team, just message them. Ben regularly does Q&As on Instagram and answers EVERY question. His work ethic is crazy high. One thing's for sure you can increase your vert with training
