Nice work indeed. Listening to a good song for the first time always takes you somewhere. This particular piece takes me to the guitar sound of Perfect Strangers album and the best Coverdale way of singing, but cleaner and wider. So, it´s more than good! The best to you Timo. Hope to see you playing live sometime again.
I noticed on Timo's site that you can by a package with the CD, DVD + an Avalon T-shirt with the winged logo. That is actually a great idea. Sell other stuff and include the album CD with it. Only catch is that the T-shirt costs an extra 10 Euro. Should be the T-shirt costing 20 Euro and the CD included free. Just cheap Chinese shirts of course, but my point is that more people want to buy a T-shirt than a CD, cuz nobody needs CDs but they do need T-shirts, even if 1 size only. Large fits all.
This album is about right for the first of the Avalon trilogy. It introduces the concept of the destruction and search for Land of New Hope and shows us what the general sound will be like, electric guitar mixed with some orchestration. Nothing cutting edge really, nobody will say that this is the metal sound of 2013 or anything. As the record company requested, it's a return to the Strato sound. Being essentially "more of the same" it may not get much notice but Frontier got what they paid for.
The standout song for me on this album is "Shine". I love the way the metal chugs come in right after the angelic vocals at the start of the song. Kiske's "Land of New Hope" is my second fav. I also like "I'll Sing You Home". Can't say I dislike any of the songs really. A very solid album all around IMO. Could have used more cool riffs, like in such Strato songs as "Find Your Own Voice", but the melodies are all quite good.
No, it's because what most people term "metal" nowadays is extreme metal and not simple riffs and melodies all while being heavy. This is a metal song, no matter how you look at it.
Please come back Timo and save power metal I can listen to your stuff forever oldschool strato you don't have to leave the music business make something great again. I know you're issues about the health but stay strong and come back to live.
Yeah, I already have listened to those bands, they're heavy metal. This doesnt sound like heavy metal to me either. Just to make things clear though, I'm not ditching the song by any means, I dont think it's a bad song. In fact, part of the reason why It sounds like rock to me is its simplicity, which is probably what Timo was aiming for too, I doubt he cares that much about what genre his music will be catalogued as.
Timo doesn't need to do anything. He has stated here and so many other places that he writes the music HE WANTS TO WRITE. If you dont like it, don't listen to it. Oh and Amaranthe is grunge/screamo meets power metal. Elize is awesome, the male vocalists suck, pure and simple. This is far mroe "true" metal than Amaranthe would ever HOPE to release ever.
Saludos.
Rob Rock & Elize sound good, not the same Russel Allen,in some part out of the key(good only in the chorus).Probably the final mix will be better i hope...
g00dj0b keep up the good work! only few things sounds weird... 1:05 and 2:56... and maybe more swung, texture and details to make the song more solid...
That's a matter of opinion. Just because you dont like this style doesnt mena it's not a "metal opera." It's Timo Tolkki's take on the idea, not everyone is going to sound like Avantasia (and they shouldn't as that would make the music stale)..
Nice rock song. Wouldn't call it metal but more AOR. Of course, not much market these days for pure metal music. This is a very Avantasia-like song, melody driven and certainly appealing while not being aggressive metal type music which may be off-putting to the average person. Fairly simplistic music which is not demanding to listen to but enjoyable. I prefer more complexity myself but now and then it's relaxing to listen to this sort of music.
Amaranthe is way more metal than this. Their guitarist is actually pretty amazing. Amaranthe may be the type of metal music which will actually gain mainstream popularity. It's metal that you can dance to. Tolkki needs to make a Dance Metal album and promote it to dance clubs. That's where the money is in the record business now, dance club music. Here's a good Amaranthe Dance Metal song, Electroheart watch?v=y04TnSHTNuI
Amazing like always Timo Tolkki!
Rob rock is one of the best singers I've ever heard, he's awesome
Amazing!!!
I love this song .... I can't stop listening to it
; )
Saludos

Great song! refreshing, full energy and not boring. We only need one Hunting high and Low, not ten songs that sound the same!

Mr. Timo Fucking Tolkki! Hacking the time with his compositions.
The pre-chorus was amazing! Zero room for improvement! \m/
a great project! :D
I thought that part (along with everything else!) rocked!! \m/

Amazing (Brasil)
Fuckin´ great. Thanks Timo.
The male singer is Russell Allen mixed with Rob Rock.. As Fire Marshall Bill would say: "A deadly combination!!"

ALLEN ALLEN ALLEN ALLEN ALLEN ALLEN
very very good song!!!! amazing....who's are the singers?????
Russel Allen , R. Rock and Elise Ryd.
Agreed.
Mucho mejor que The Mystery Of Time de Avantasia, presiento que este álbum dejará callados a muchos.
Great riff 0:05-0:30
Maybe it because we dont know the full story of the whole album yet? Wait till the album comes out THEN decide whether it's good or bad.
Elize Ryd, Russell Allen, Rob Rock
First =D

Howie Mandel on drums?
Rob Rock.
timo tolkki \m/o\m/
You mean pop music?
You forget he had a song "fields of Avalon" with Symfonia. Therefore, your argument is invalid.
is this video out of sync or should I call a physician
Rob rock and Russel Allan sound so similar to me
Rob Rock & Elize sound good, not the same Russel Allen,in some part out of the key(good only in the chorus).Probably the final mix will be better i hope...

Strange change in the song structure, but once you get used to it, it`s nice =)
i'm here hust for elize...
Tolkki with two "K"s... ;)

i'm pooping on my feet
Forse l ultimo disco decente di Tolkki.
well, I expected an actual video, no just some footage on studio compilation.
Elise S2
timo no es el que esta cantando -.-
