Clear up some comments: yes, this train does have regenerative braking (loco is an ALP-46), but since it is running cab car first, it cannot be controlled individually from the cab car and rather is "blended" with the air brakes. Also, this video was not taken inside the cab: it is just behind the cab in the passenger compartment of a cab car coach. Locomotive is pushing on other end; train is bi-directional "push-pull".
Whoa, nice. I didn't think I would find this that entertaining - I used to ride from NYP out to New Brunswick a lot in the recent past when Arrow IIIs ruled the NEC. Cool upload, dude. Those guys have some sweet jobs.
Just bought New Jersey Transit simulator video game on Xbox. This operator in the video taught me a lesson on how to pull the service and lap ,then repeat again every couple of seconds..., To Make the train slow down not too fast, but gradually. In the video game it has the Amtrak Acela (which is my favorite),... Amtrak Frontends and backends with the yellow. And New Jersey Transit front-end and back-ends. The route is only from Penn Station to Trenton.
Wow you got very lucky there! 5 stars! Actually where you were standing the audio would be great for models and games. On Metro-North I've gotten pretty lucky many times because MN has a lot of engineers and conductors who like railfanners.
@BentraxVideos I should clarify , they don;t allow Engines to run in Diesel mode because of the fumes. Some of Amtraks Engines are dual mode they run electric in PENN until they hop on the Empire Line. The NJT AC Express also has diesel but it's off and basically used as cab car with and ALP on the hind end pushing until they get to Shore Interlocking and switch over to diesel.
@GSXRMark99 Not sure, I know if you go over the speed limit restriction it goes off, but also you have the dead man switch. If adding sand it makes the same noise. I am sure after while you get used to it.
@GSXRMark99 It's either the alerter aka deadman, or Cab signal enforcing a slower or more restrictive speed/signal aspect and your required to acknowledge, by the looks his speed is kinda slow, and the sander doesnt make any noise only indicator light. maybe a slight hiss..and no emergency message is sent a penalty application is incurred. reset it and go...
@danwat1234 Most of them don't have dynamic breaking with a regenerative feature with the exception of the Acela. All of the engines used in passenger service do have dynamic breaking which for the most part is computer controlled including the MU sets. A few of the alps you can manually used the Dynamic break just keep in mind though it has to be used correctly or it just be like using the independent break causing the cars to run into the Engine.
@anomalousclouds Funny, but most conductor just do it because it's a job, not for the passion. I heard from many engineers, they don't even like trains but it's a job to pay the bills.
@GenesisSanctuary you have to be careful about that, it's very easy to get an engineer in trouble. you wouldn't be able to give equipment #s or anything to the public. Transit is smart and they can find out.
@Lautico I suspect this will change with the introduction of the ALP45DP(A new dual mode supposedly high tech blah blah I'm sure I'll have numerous headaches with all the computerized crap they threw on it) if it hasn't already.
Hi I was just wounding what is the best year to go and sit the corse to become a train driver and how can I apply for it I live in Perth Western Australia and my name George
@P40BH I can't help to laugh at this statement besides the fact that the speed is limited to Restricted Speed not exceeding 15MPH within PENN Station. (Not that I recommend you go that fast unless you see string of "Clear Signals" even at that not wise) What you guys don't realize is the amount of signals all over the place and how close they're to one another in some case less than a half car length. You have to watch how you're aligned and make sure you have the signals. (obscure signals)
@Lautico When running cab car out can;t think of any equipment to where the controller allows you to dynamic break from the cab car similar to effect I listed above again instead of cars running into the engine when the dynamic break kicks in it's like throwing a anchor out the window which would yanks the cars back. As an Engineer you get used to how handle your train to make it run smooth, if you care that is. All equipment acts differently though even same set running from another end changes
Dylon Vandergrift the beeping? If your talking about the beeping no it isn’t it’s the acknowledge button you have to press it goes off every minute if you don’t press the button it goes into emergency it’s basically a alerter for the engineer to make sure he’s alive etc.
Coming out of the tunnel into NJ is always a beautiful thing but seeing it from the front of a locomotive is another beauty to behold.

Dude, nice video. I've always wondered how the cab of the NJT trains looked like. Thanks for the video.
0:09 green spider web
I guess a bunch of weird spider that love trains make web right there and watch trains going in each directions
r/wooosh
Capt_ CJ that’s just a joke, get it?
Awesome! :)
Great view of how the train is operated something we normally don't get to see! Still goes over my head though

Excellent and so interesting!
Great video. I rode in one of those babies once, except it was on the Main Line to Suffern. I did a shave and a haircut sometimes.

cool video,have not seen much njt cabrides. Sorry to annoy you but is this a cabcar on NE corridor?
so cool, now I have some inspiration for trainz
@GSXRMark99 Not sure, I know if you go over the speed limit restriction it goes off, but also you have the dead man switch. If adding sand it makes the same noise. I am sure after while you get used to it.
I always thought about being a train engineer. I do love trains, but I thought it might get a little monotonous after awhile.

Amazing video . It's the vision of train driver's in the push- pull train conception and operates in one double deck passenger cars .
pretty cool to see what goes on behind the controls
@BentraxVideos Only Electric Trains can go through the North River Tunnels in normal operations due to safety concerns

@P40BH It was weekend service, and it had speed restrictions due to track maintances.
@BonesCentralRR Thanks
Nice cab shot! Was this a bi-level cab car you were in?
Look Out For The Train 7040 is a multilevel cab; so yes.
+Fan Railer hoping they come to TS2016, probably making the Morris & Erie Lines
Yes
This is interesting front view pov awesome
Nice Video!
@stevefromPA2 Yes, that is correct. Yes, that is the new double decker sets.
awesome vid
a. was that frank Lautenberg station that u passed through b.is that one of the new cab double decker sets..?
@Train538 I do agree about Metro-North engineers and conductors.
Nice video
how old do you have to be to drive any of these commuter rail trains
@Lautico All right, that makes sense. Thanks for the info!
@BentraxVideos We had an electric locomotive pushing the train.
@GenesisSanctuary Thanks...
I been on the cab car once and it was multilevel cars
@anomalousclouds Funny, but most conductor just do it because it's a job, not for the passion. I heard from many engineers, they don't even like trains but it's a job to pay the bills.
@artntrinkets Thanks.
nice video
@MrConraal Thanks
I agree.
@nichols15 On the Music City Star here in TN you have to be 18. Some railroads may require you to be 21 however.
@SuperStarRendon Thanks for the info!
@GenesisSanctuary you have to be careful about that, it's very easy to get an engineer in trouble. you wouldn't be able to give equipment #s or anything to the public. Transit is smart and they can find out.
Good stuff.

Hi I was just wounding what is the best year to go and sit the corse to become a train driver and how can I apply for it I live in Perth Western Australia and my name George
@retroguy1976 Okay, cool! Thanks for the information!
@jasandros True, but if you want to see the face then I put his job at risk. Beside it's the view of how the train is being control
@P40BH I can't help to laugh at this statement besides the fact that the speed is limited to Restricted Speed not exceeding 15MPH within PENN Station. (Not that I recommend you go that fast unless you see string of "Clear Signals" even at that not wise)

@johnervin1 Okay, cool! Thanks for the answer!
@mcrrocks80 Thanks
@markbmoreno Thanks
@SuperStarRendon do you know the engineer ive been trying to videotape my cab rides but none of them let me:(
@BentraxVideos diesels never go into penn station ny either they terminate @ newark or go to hoboken
So what stages of braking are on these cars?
Brake valve positions: Release, Electric Hold, Lap, Service, Handle Off, Emergency.
@@FanRailerwhat does the hold braking does
@msmith624 This was shot from the Bi-level car.
Is this double decker or coast line?
Double decker, or Multilevels
@KingofTomedy Cab Car of Multi-level
comet 5???
ALP46A?
@Lautico Okay.
Is this a train to trenton
Where is the radio?
MassTransitLover it is that silver box almost level with the engineers head
Why are some of the catenary green and the rest black?
and you said I was the buff??? smh.. LOL ... :P
@Lautico When running cab car out can;t think of any equipment to where the controller allows you to dynamic break from the cab car similar to effect I listed above again instead of cars running into the engine when the dynamic break kicks in it's like throwing a anchor out the window which would yanks the cars back. What the beeping for? I hear it all the time on njt.
rubbersoulgirl84 sWas speed warning I think.
It's a alerter to make sure that the engineer is still in control/alive/awake if he doesn't press the button the train goes into emergency
was that a fire pager going off
Dylon Vandergrift the beeping? If your talking about the beeping no it isn’t it’s the acknowledge button you have to press it goes off every minute if you don’t press the button it goes into emergency it’s basically a alerter for the engineer to make sure he’s alive etc.
@rubbersoulgirl84 cab signals
Operator's View
Also, cool vid, i once drove one of those trains by putting on/off the bell, honking the horn, and moving the throttle!
@jasandros Dude really..anyone thats into trains likes this video...
you forgot "not"
was that train an arrow ? from njt
Hmm, so that train doesn't have regenerative braking? Doesn't look like the engineer is using it if the train does have it. Be green!
only the locomotives have regenerative braking, which is automatically blended in with the automatic brake.
Big bro, do you have a email?
@logo47 Copper wire.
comet or arrow?
flyewr1907 BI-Level! :D
How modern and forward thinking of you. So you're saying the train is Bi.
So Slow
Not much to see except the operators hands. An ocassional front shot, with most of the time spent on the operators hand controls was a poor choice.
what a ugly mess of poles and wires
@MrGamester66 thanks
@pmm178 Thanks
