I hope the unibody on that car is in OK shape. Real shame about the roof but you get major kudos for doing the repair on it instead of stripping the car and junking it. I recently sold my beloved low-miles original condition '82. It had a small visible rust patch at the t-top area hiding a decent bit of rot when I peeled all the weatherstripping off. I cut it out and welded in new metal, put on the lightest skim of filler to even things out, and blended the paint. Looked factory fresh. No way was I passing that on to the next guy. Rust never sleeps, but it should be solid for a good long while. I look forward to seeing this car transform. 👍

I have seen this sort of thing happen on the forum years ago, a car that had class makeup job, turned out to be a death trap. The lad who bought it was going to use it as a rally car, it all came to light when him and his pal started stripping the car. He found that seatbelt anchor points had been repaired with a piece of metal riveted into place, and a lay ours of filler / bondo to you lads. He even found fuel lines and brake lines ran into the car, and secured with brackets and bolts. Making it a total nightmare. When the came to put the car into the air, all underneath was just rot with filler. They just called time with it, photographed and named and shamed the seller, stripped what was salvageable from it and bought another all round better car. Laugh was what they took off the car, wasn't very much. Sake of two anti roll bars, engine and gearbox, and two brackets for front dampers. Basically bits they could have just bought from Ebay at the time, or stuff new. It might be worth seeing if there is a better car and just use this for bits? Just with you having to faff on with the roof and transmission etc, plus god knows what other funny stuff it maybe hidden.

Some one on a Facebook group put down a 1700 quid deposit a car, that was miles away from him. he had pulled out of the sale, and expected the seller to return deposit money. When it went live on the group the buyer and seller clashed like hell, as the seller tried to sell the car on. The seller got roasted for advertising a over priced shed.

I'd say try to find a better car and swap what good parts you have onto that. This body is bad. It's going to cost more to fix this than to restart the hunt for a better car, but at least you have a parts car to help you save somewhere. If the motor is good, and the wheels are too, you're ahead already. The bowling ball caps have been seen online for around $400 for the set. Best of luck whichever way you go with this car.
